When you put the bars down in the back that it’s just thin sheet metal above the gas tank. If you flip it it will go right into the gas tank. I’m redoing mine as we speak bought car with cage in it just like yours. I’m moving bars to frame rails.

Thanks, yea it seems like alot of viewers are interested in the entertainment aspect, and don’t really have any intention of learning about how its done. I would love to get a brand new car on the channel one day, in addition to having my thirdgen. The best part would be I would stick to doing all the mods and upgrades myself. Only thing I pay for are tunes, until I can learn to do that myself as well👍.

When I installed my 12 point I put in plates at every floor mount. I also added supports that tied in as close to the rear shocks as possible, was like on the very edge of the foamshock covers. Also did similar mounts to the front strut mounts, in theory I wanted to eliminate the strut tower brace and give me some additional hood clearance. Last addition was timing it into the welded in subframe connectors. Tied in from loop to subframe. There was no way that chassis was gonna move when I was done. Wish I hadn't sold it when I left Iowa. That thing was going to be a monster.

Sir. It's beautiful. This I what i want to do next. Wow. You got it for a great price.
@theminer24684 жыл бұрын
So for the plates the bars are welded to. Do you just weld them straight to the floor, no outrigger to the subframe or anything like that?
@Matt_Lanzer_134 жыл бұрын
It’s a unibody car. Welding to the floor IS welding to the chassis/frame. Only cars you need to tie into the frame is body on frame

Hi Matt. Hey, re-watching some of your more particular videos. In this one you mention the "cage" did stiffen the unibody, how much so? Also, don't recall, did you install subframe connectors prior to this work? if so, how did they compare to the cage? Thanks!
@jameslaiola49764 жыл бұрын
Beautiful car beautiful car absolutely beautiful car sir. May I ask did the cage make a big difference as far as handling and stiffness? I really want to do this and of course I've considered the chassis upgrade but I really want to do the cage because it's easier to maintain from the inside of the car. I love your car Sir it's beautiful

@lsxmatt6 жыл бұрын
Everything has to come out, I removed the carpet, seats, all the panels. Only thing I kept in was the dash and I covered that while I was welding. You can see where the sides of the hoop meet the floor where I trimmed the panel to fit around it.
@lsxmatt6 жыл бұрын
Carpet was easy, I just cut a slit up to the pipe then cut a hole with scissors.

Would it be possible to pull the carpet out for the plates, then reinstall it and just cut holes for the tubing so you don’t have those long cuts in the carpet?

Not a roll cage, its a roll bar. NHRA rule book calls that a 4 point roll bar because they don't count the diagonal bars as attachment points that protect the driver. Those diagonals just add rigidity to the main hoop. The door bars you left out would make it a 6 point roll bar. A halo bar and windshield down tubes would form a cage like structure over the driver and then be considered a roll cage. Also, while you're correct that the harness bar should be located so the shoulder straps are close to level, the downward angle limit is 15 degrees. So if your shoulder straps are at a downward angle of 15 degrees or more, measured from the harness bar to the top of your shoulder, it's illegal because it will compress your spine in an accident.

@trashbandit24494 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't this be a half cage? Edit- never mind, I think a half cage has a bar going to the front of the cage on the bottom for more support

When someone puts a cage in a car I automatically think race car. I thought this was just a clean driver. Cage and race seats just ruin a car. Ruin it. I’m very disappointed. I’ll never ruin my car and put a cage in it. Yea it may be safer but I’d rather back the power down that to do that. 🤦♂️

808 G8GT yes you figured me out. I never said anyone can’t have their opinions. Did I say that? If I did, I would like you to point that out. Jealous? Not hardly. I have a nicer car and it’s faster. I’m just partial to the third gen because I had one when I was a kid. I don’t think I’d have another one tho. And for your info, you don’t need a cage to stop the flex. I welded in frame rails under my car to stop the and that car ran low 11’s at 122-124mph all motor. And it was every bit as clean as this car is except I didn’t ruin it with a cage and racing seats. Mine had leather trans am seats in it. This was back in 1999ish. Made 447rwhp. The car I have is a single turbo gto that makes over 600rwhp. And I drive it almost every day. It outside right now. So jealous. Not hardly. Disappointed? Yes.
