@You Wish I don't think it was meant as a statement that draws sympathy. I think the statement is only showing love for cars. My dad was absent, but a good guy, and just never showed me anything really car wise, so I got into cars on my own and because of my friends the same as @LegitStreetCars.

My Dad was/is around, was an ASE master tech (and Detroit Diesel master tech, Allison master tech, etc), and never really spent much time bothering to teach me anything.. He just didn't have the patience for it and as I got older it became clear that we don't work well together anyhow. So... Dad around, not around, and his knowledge base can give you a boost, but it's certainly not the end all be all of what you can accomplish. I didn't really start wrenching, and learning, until I just bought a POS car and dragged it home.... he was also super against me doing that. So, he actively tried to keep me from learning (to an extent).

This story that you tells us is similar to mine. My first year of high school I was trying to my best to fit in but I didn’t want to work on an oil rig. It felt like I was losing interest in school I couldn’t do it so I dropped out my first year. Then I got a call from my high school in the summer 2019 that if I wanted I could choose to change school line and go to the mechanic school line. I finally was on the right path to doing what I dream of to work with and it was car’s. I didn’t know anything I didn’t know how break system was working and all of that but when I started in August it all changed I went from knowing nothing to the top 5 student at my school. So this video motivates me to work harder and shows anything’s is possible 😊🏆

Your story made me think of something funny from my high school days many of my high school buddies worked at a local Auto parts store in Florida and whenever we knew it was one of his first days on the job we would call the store and wait for them to connect us to him we would ask him how much was a radiator for a 1968 VW Beetle which of course are Aircooled cars without any radiators in those days it was before computers and the auto parts stores had super big parts catalogs at the counters so we could hear them flipping countless pages looking for something that just didn’t exist untill he had to ask a co worker who knew that someone was busting his Chops and would start laughing at him Congrats on the good job

Good story. That is how you learn. I left the corporate and business world. Today, I do home repair including plumbing and some electrical. If someone tole me 15 years ago, I would be doing this, my answer would have been.... you are crazy, I don't know how to do that. Going KZbin full time is possibly something you could do when the kids have flown the coop.

I'm not really a Mercedes guy myself, but ive got tons of respect for people who work on them. Every auto maker has its weird differences. I mainly work on ford's and I completely agree, sometimes you just gotta jump in and teach yourself how to fix and do stuff. Keep up the great content man!

You still only need to take a test to become a Master Tech. Glad you know the difference between taking a test and knowing how to actually wrench. I've met a TON of Master Techs that don't now how to do shit when it comes to wrenching.

One of the things I hate about full time youtubers is that some just put out content for contents sake. Your videos are educational and informative. Keep up the good work! Good story btw. My high school's auto program was almost impossible to get into. Something like 10 kids got selected each year for a two year program and they seemed to always be the kids who came from wealthier backgrounds, so us poorer kids never got in.

I come from Australia, you can't even become a full mechanic without doing a 4 year Apprenticeship with 3 years (once a week in my time) at a technical college (we call it tafe). PS, I was looking at getting an E36 M3 and LS swapping it but now I'm just throwing all my money at my 03 HSV Clubsport R8.

Everyone is saying G-Wagen, but I don't think you'd buy a G63/65 because of what they still cost. And don't think you'd buy another car with the M113K or M156, so rule out the G55, R63, or E55/E63 wagon. So I'll say W220 S65. You've been hinting at the older V12TT's for a while.

Hi Alex, could you do a video someday about your 2 post car lift? I'm looking at getting one, but read that it requires a certain thickness to the garage cement floor. I was just wondering how you went about installing it and whether you had to do any modifications to your garage floor etc. Also someone was telling me that your homeowners insurance rate may change if you put a lift in your garage due to liability, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I didn’t do well in high school either, but excelled in my auto class because I enjoyed it. I never knew what I wanted to do until I got my first car and had to fix it myself and realized this is what I love and what I want to do. I’m now an apprentice mechanic, and I go into work everyday happy and excited to learn new things. You just have to find what you enjoy and do it. Don’t worry about making money, when you love what you do you’ll be great at it and the money will come.

NFS4LFE I work as an apprentice technician, and never have any real issues when working on customer cars. It’s always when I try to do something quick and easy on my car that It turns into an issue lol. Getting the Factpry service manual and having a decent set of tools will make life so much easier.

I went to an automotive school and what I learn from it is unless you go into a high end dealer ship such as Mercedes Benz or Bmw it is not worth it. I end up at Toyota and after a year call it quits. No regrets I still learn a lot and it was a good experience.

Hi Alex! I am a first time owner of a used 2010 C300 4Matic luxury. I am learning the hard way to be a MB owner. My front Impeller shaft let loose at the U-Joint and now I have to replace that animal. I unfortunately have to replace the lower O2 sensor on the CAT as it got bent over pretty badly. I also lost two sensors, of some kind that were mounted right side of a bracket that is right below the bell housing the left two wire assemblies are intact, the right side completely gone...somewhere on the interstate. I need help finding out what these are so I can buy the two that are supposed to be clipped into the right side of that bracket nearest the drive shaft. I started at 35... I have now just 4 months of experience... I hope i can be a master tech just like you but for Japanese cars as i really don't like German cars especially Mercedes and Vw

Great video. And don't ever sell the Trans Am. I worked thru high school and saved up (with my dads help) for a used 67 GTO. It was a great car but needed work. But then college got too intense and I was also working part time & I had no time to devote to the car and sold it. One of my biggest regrets. I still miss it 30 years later.

Honestly I’m glad I didn’t go flat rate starting out. Going to fleet for county working on big buses and light duty buses so much better with pension and benefits
