My local farmers market was less than receptive to me selling art. When I made sales, I would go to the other booths and buy stuff - food and produce - but none of the other vendors ever even visited my booth. I was given a spot that the organizer told me no one had ever made a sale at. That is how I was treated at a farmers market. Good luck to everyone and I hope you have a better time than I did!

So sorry to hear that! Every show is different, so I would suggest trying a different farmers market. Perhaps you would have a different reception. Also, what’s important is if you were able to sell any of your art at it. Who cares what the other vendors think of you, or if they don’t like you selling art, etc. That is inconsequential. The point is to go there and make money, not friends. I know that may seem harsh, but I’m all about a business mindset.

I agree. Take a friend with you so you wont be alone, that would probably help. Also, the other vendors don’t pay your bills, so concentrate on selling that art.

@TinaPareArts… what about painting the produce / food you buy add a recipe that you made and then go show the vendors , who knows maybe they will be more receptive to you being around. This could lead on to selling your other pieces … just a thought.

Such good (and practical) advice! I see so much advice for selling art that’s really not practical and doable for most people, but these steps are easy to follow and something that most people can try. Plus in my experience over the last few years of doing almost exactly the advice in this video I have found that it does work so if you’re hesitant to try it, know that this will definitely get you out there with your artwork-the only way people will know about your art is if they see it and see you and get to know you. And unfortunately, being online really isn’t the best way to do that!

This is a very good idea!!! I'm a performing guitarist who also has just got into doing art & art shows recently & has sold some of my paintings the last 3 times at this art/craft show. Since I'm basically just starting out ( last 6 months ) my prices art low & the people who have been buying them are around your age, I'm 61, but what I thiy draws them in is my art is more fantasy based landscapes, plus, I also play classical/fusion guitar music ( at a low volume, so I don't disturb anyone ) so I think the music also draws them in. I agree with, there's opportunities out there, so don't be afraid, just go for it, thanks for all your help, I really do appreciate it, you are AWESOME!!! Keep On Creating, Rock On & God Bless.

Hi 👋 Krystle, Another question I had in mind is, how long do you take breaks from painting? What is your recommendation for taking some time off from the studio? How long do you take breaks? Have a great day!
@KrystleColeArt
@KrystleColeArt 9 күн бұрын
I always take breaks for a day or longer if I start to have tendinitis flareups. I think that's super important to take breaks when you have pain. Otherwise, I try to paint as much as I can because it makes me happy, lowers my stress levels, and just overall enhances my quality of life. But I think it's a good time to take off from working in the studio if it's not enhancing your life in a positive way. If it's causing you stress or like I said before pain, tendinitis, then it's time to take a break. You don't want burnout :)

@ thank you so much for responding back! Yes I agree with you on that. And I do not do well in taking breaks lol, but I did however, managed to pull off almost a three week period without painting. My only concern is, that if you take a lot of time off you lose your touch or feel a bit rusty. It’s like working out, you lift heavy weights for a week, then you take a week off and believe it or not, your muscles tend to feel a bit weak lol! But yes I do agree with what you said. I will try to do my best to take breaks in between. Especially with painting with fumes, not good for your health. Once again I appreciate your time!

Hi, Krystie & Happy New Years I happy to say I have finally juried into 2 big art festivals. Super excited but nervous. I have been doing local art & craft shows for over a year since I found your channel and I have been selling prints well. I have also successfully juried into 2 art associations with galleries. Thank you for your truthful help. Dave

Congratulations! It’s awesome that you got into two juried shows and art associations. You’ll have fun at the shows, it’ll also be a learning process just like everything else is with your art business. But personally, I like them better than local smaller shows and you should make more money, which is always good 😁👍

I've never sold art on the East Coast, I sell in the Midwest primarily. I live in Kansas. Although, I've heard of some really amazing craft shows there on the East Coast. You might check out craft shows if you haven't had any luck selling at art fairs, etc. Look for the ones on the sunshine artist magazine top 200 list.

Thanks Krystle. I do dog portraits and the problem is I like doing caricatures and portraiture in an abstract way. Can I ask what would be the best approach to these farmers markets? Just specialise in one thing?
@KrystleColeArt
@KrystleColeArt 8 күн бұрын
When you’re starting out it’s best to show everything that you are making in the same booth, and then you can try to test market and see what people are buying. Then make more of what people buy. Simple as that :)

As somebody who's been selling now for about 15-20 years and has done shows around the country I completely agree with this dude you have to have an audience and if you don't have the audience or the people who want to buy within your area you're not going to make that kind of money I watch people all the time of art of different types all arts who struggle and don't make ends meet because of the fact that people just plain can't afford the stuff or just want to get it for cheap or next to nothing off of Amazon or some other place
@pat4005

@@MM-dn3deMaybe your art is just as unappealing as your negative attitude, and people sense that negative vibe in your art, and that is why it was not selling! What she is stating is NOT BS! When I first started doing art for a living years ago, I was also airbrushing things too, such as mentioned, and it was a fun and different way to make money doing art. Now I do entirely art for myself, which I place on products that I want to sell, and I don't do commissions.
