FDA approval ignored three suicides in the Esketamine group and zero in regular treatment. This acts on the NMDA receptor, if you remember from the movie brain on fire the shizofreniA with epilepsy like symptoms was caused by Anti NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. This could end up causing very similar symptoms.

@DavidaVeddar2 жыл бұрын
@@islandluvr yes all antidepressants never really helped and their absence has made me feel so much better. I’ve never HALLUCINATED. Like seeing things not there. It’s not like that, you disassociate, and it’s like your an observer to yourself. For example I blamed myself for a lot of abuse and couldn’t get over the low self esteem aspect to heal, and ketamine let me think and relive scenes from my life that usually caused panic attacks, but I saw this girl so hurt this sympathy just flooded, making the intellectual knowledge of something not being my fault to an emotional reality was a liberation from a prison I’ve been in since a child. In that way it’s the closest thing to what I’d say a hallucination. Believe me they start you off slow and steady you won’t be seeing snakes on the walls or things like that.

Hello, possible relative. LOL I was already wanting to reply before seeing your last name. I haven't started ketamine therapy yet. I am about to, God-willing. I really believe that anti-depressants made my anxiety and depression permanently worse. I started going down the psychedelic rabbit hole last year, but still never messed with it because I was paranoid to ask. I did start taking Delta-8 gummies and they work pretty well. They helped me ween off of Prozac and they also help dull the anxiety. However, they only help me when they are active in my body and make me dopey. I won't EVER touch Prozac or Lexapro type of meds again. I really look forward to Ketamine Therapy.

@@josephburgess3972 ( married name so greetings in law! Lol). I have had times in my life where I was pretty successful and times where I was a complete mess, on the brink of homelessness, wouldn’t leave my room for months. I’m currently experiencing the worst bought of depression and hopelessness in my entire life. It started off by not being able to sleep for days(which I’ve never experienced), so o started using again. Thinking it will only be temporary to get My sleep back on track. Obviously everything g got much worse ….sever depression, ignoring phone calls, appointments, not caring about what I look like, whatever. Basically doing absolutely nothing but go to the supermarket. I’m as close to being suicidal as I’ve ever been. I absolutely hate myself and feel like I have little to no chance to get back on track. In the times you can't sleep you're probably going through a hypomanic stage you can be depressed but hypomanic at the same time. The fact that you want to use during these stages is because you want to self medicate. The best thing to do to prevent it is to go to the doctor. You can go to your family doctor. I don't see psychiatrist because I have had some very bad 😕 experiences with them my family practioner takes care of my Bipolar.

wouldn't it be better to try Ketamine as treatment before SSRIs? Correct me if I'm wrong but SSRIs have a way larger and worse list of side-effects than Ketamine? Personally I had a horrible time with Citalopram and brain zaps coming off it
@cubes63513 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not. Ketamine does have promising outlooks but it's not generally covered by insurance making it much more expensive. Ketamine has its own sleep of side effects, and how You see Ketamine administered in many places is through IV. It's seen as a more aggressive treatment than oral medicines. It's like being given oxycodone, or an IV or morphine with no acetaminophen for a back ache instead of Acetominophen. Ketamine hopefully will gain leverage in the coming years but it'll still be an Alternative treatment to SSRIs, but not a replacement

I’ve been doing infusions and compounded nasal ketamine for going on 2 years now . It’s the only medicine that’s ever truly worked for my long battle with depression / trauma /ptsd . Obviously every patient is different but I am a major advocate for using it in a proper therapeutic setting . I had alcohol and substance abuse issues in my past , so balancing ketamine was a struggle the first few months , but I made it thru and have been clean / sober for over a year as well . I did not like ketamine as a street /club drug . I tried it a few times @ raves in my 20s and it made me uncomfortable . Fast forward to 38 years old , 15 years of clinically diagnosed depression that was treatment resistant... ketamine infusions and nasal prescribed doses helped open up my mind body and spirit and allow me to make changes that made me happy , healthy and productive for the first time I can remember in all my years . Thanks so much for sharing and you raise a really important point. I think there is something so different about using ANY controlled substance in a non-controlled way, but especially K! I am very shy and socially phobic, or I should maybe say I used to be. I'm sure if I'd had K at a bar or club in my 20s I would have been utterly terrified. It could have put my life back then into a huge tailspin in fact. OTOH for my first infusion they chatted with me for 20 minutes about what to expect and I felt very calm. I was still very afraid -- I had never had general anesthesia before -- but it was a success for me. In retrospect feeling a quasi 'near death' experience me was a good thing. It was only that for the first one...for subsequent K infusions I understood what dissociation was and was no longer afraid. So it really really annoys me when people compare recreational use of K to medical infusion in a controlled, quiet environment.

All they ever do is change the SSRI it makes me really angry that psychiatrists know this has been around and see how you struggle. Getting out of bed, taking a shower keeping your house clean. Cooking. All these things I struggle with everyday, I refuse to see psychiatrists now. They diagnosed me with everything but Bipolar II. One of them got me so hooked on klonopin I had to go to detox. I am 56 years old and have lived in this body with this brain for 56 years. But only my family practioner took the time to listen to what I and my husband of 36 years had to say. @Salmagundiii3 жыл бұрын
Yes, "covered by insurance", meaning the FDA granted J&J the "right" to charge our insurance companies $6000 for a $10 bottle of chemicals. Meaning all of our premiums go up. Because they did "clinical trials" to prove what was already bloody well known, that it's a proven treatment for SSRI resistant depression. Not criticizing you for wanting it but just criticizing the incredibly broken system that is our prescription drug approval process. Thousands of dollars for an inferior route of administration of a probably inferior version of the molecule. Most people who have had both say the infusions are much better. Apparently a handful of very enterprising psychiatrists on the west coast especially used COVID as a justification to start to prescribe nasal sprays of racemic K. So people could dose at home. A compounding pharmacy can make that for about $50 a bottle but I think most practitioners are afraid of the the liability concerns, and perhaps legal ones from J&J if too many start doing it.

Ketamine saved my life. It is honestly a miracle. I was beat up and made fun of a lot and went to seven different schools and then dropped out and then used drugs including methamphetamines cocaine and heroin and anything else I could get my hands on for almost eight years and then I found ketamine. I realized that when I get it at the doctor's under medical supervision it doesn't work right but when I have my set and setting it does amazing things although I have had a collapsed vein from it but they heal and it doesn't hurt real bad. People have to be careful no matter what they're using. Thanks for the great educational and informational video!

It's quite interesting to see al these American methods to treat/help mental health. In Italy (and in a big portion of Europe) we are really behind. Getting medication for ADHD was a huge hurdle (and - despite paying tax - I have to pay them IN FULL), and we only have methylphenidate. Not even Elvanse/Vyanse or similar. It's a pity, because a lot of these those treatments seem to be both effective and safe. Sorry for the negative comments, I am still happy a lot of people are getting benefits from these treatments, I am still glad I live in in this century.
@julienFrenchDude3 жыл бұрын
I grew up in France where ADHD is hardly recognized as a real condition. Getting Ritalin or Concerta in France is very complicated. Since I moved to the US I have been on Vyvanse and it has been a game changer.
@Chizuru942 жыл бұрын
Nah, this comment is not negative and totally justified, imo. And Germany only got Vyvanse/Elvanse approved for adults a few years ago, for example. Methylphenidate gave me (bad) side effects as a kid and a bad crash and bad weight loss (yup, all really bad), so we had to stop it and my life has been a mess ever since, kind of. Glad I can try smth different now as an adult, hopefully. And I wonder what ketamine would do for ADHD. Ik it works totally different, but it might give some relief also (although not for the symptoms, maybe). The singer of BMTH (Oliver Sykes) has ADHD and always sought out ketamine to feel better. And good to know ketamine is not the boogeyman it's been made out to be :)

My town needs an infusion center! My choices are a 5 hr drive in one direction and a 2.5 hr drive in another. And no one gets an anesthetic without someone to drive and support them. If you've struggled with depression etc all your life you can probably count friends of that caliber on one hand. I just scored a credit card to pay for it but I can barely dress myself in the morning. How am I going to be able to handle the logistics of a series in a big city in the winter? I have a complaint, I use pain medication for chronic pain. I would prefer to use a non opioid but there are no FDA approved pain medications to move over to and that bothers me.
@lifeislucky2175 жыл бұрын
naproxen is a non opioid pain medication. Also muscle relaxers help as well as gabapentin. I take all of those and suffer from back pain. Physical therapy is very helpful as well. You do not need to be on opioids as there are many options you can try out. Some doctors also you ketamine for pain, they sedated you and infuse you with a much higher does of ketamine compared to the psychiatric use (about 10x higher) and after around 5 hours you go home.
@jo0ls_dee5 жыл бұрын
I was primarily guided towards ketamine infusions for my chronic pain actually. If you have a pain clinic in your area, i'm sure they'd do it there as well. It cut my pain in about half, but going from an 8/10 to a 4/10 is pretty significant to me. There are lots of alternatives to opiods that are FDA approved, but they tend to not be as strong. It's the NSAID category. You could ask your doctor about it? Might be worth looking into, if you're worried about addiction and need to take pain medication long-term

One of the biggest problems with the use of Ketamine is that there appears to be little profit in it for pharmaceutical companies because they can't control it. Which means they aren't going to waste their time conducting clinical trials. Because of this, sadly, Special K will probably never see approved use for depression.

@esteemedbitchboy Жыл бұрын
from what i've seen, yes!! they would definitely have to discuss with their doctor to make sure that it wouldn't be a trigger for them, but as someone who just completed my first 4 ketamine infusions i completely understand why its used for substance abuse disorder. the biggest long term affect it has had for me was making change not as terrifying and awful, ketamine essentially loosened up my brain and let me go down different paths without there being as much resistance, which i could 100% see being helpful for SAD
@mspamelastube2 жыл бұрын
Just finished my 5th “journey”. Am at max dose. Subtle results but fatigue is still major problem. Maybe ketamine doesn’t affect the fatigue piece of depression.
@tsullia5 жыл бұрын
This conversation has the potential to be dangerous, as not everyone approaches drugs from a rational mindset. In the UK Ketamine is a controversial substance, so clinics are something new to me. I only know of it via misuse in a "social" setting, and likely an inferior quality. I appreciate that this could become something useful in the field of mental health, but I'm wary of discussing it in this optimistic context until things change. By that I mean Ketamine is more readily accessible than certain mental health services, and as such I know of one person who has taken it upon themselves to try micro-dosing ketamine that is purchased illicitly. That is not a controlled environment under supervision. Combined with an unhealthy lifestyle (other substances such as alcohol) and anti psych meds, the results are chaotic and destructive.
@lassiereynolds37395 жыл бұрын
Well it worked for me and for many others that didn't respond to antidepressants, ECT or transcranial. You obviously haven't been severely clinical depressed. I think it should be available at a GPs office. It is a very small dose, much lower than the dose used by people seeking a high. If it works, why withhold it? Depressed people want to do something that works! Many antidepressants don't work very well and many people can become suicidal. If they sign a waiver saying they won't sue the doctor and they are aware of the side effects, it should be available. You wouldn't be saying what you are saying if it was a cancer drug. And by the way, I don't have ANY side effects, which is something I can't say about SSRIs etc. If they find out it causes cancer in the future, I don't care. I'm glad I had it, it saved my life NOW.
@tsullia5 жыл бұрын
Lassie Reynolds I think you’ve misunderstood my original comment because I am in no way undermining the research. I have been taking SSRI’s for years, so my opinion shouldn’t qualify me as not suffering enough. They help, but did not prevent suicide attempts or a breakdown. I have been in Stage/ Step four psychotherapy for some months now, after a waitlist of 4 torturous years. From my first GP appointment where I vocalised suicidal thoughts to Psychotherapy - 7 + years and different SSRI’s. That’s too long! My struggle, and that of loved ones, is precisely why I said what I did. I have been and continue to be desperate. Dangerously desperate. Mentally ill people in the UK are desperate. And we can access street quality ketamine (that was the major point of my comment btw) or other substances of choice easier than we can mental health services? I know what it is to lose someone to substance abuse, so I’m talking about the already existing problem. The increased potential cost of life if things don’t change in what is available to us. If I put aside my personal bias to substances the fact is still the same - ILLICIT substances are potentially lethal for those vulnerable or desperate sufferers who cannot access care services first. I won’t optimistically endorse it for that reason and it’s risky to do so. I’m genuinely pleased it works for you and others, my hope is that general care is accessible first and foremost both before and during that step. Edit: if it were a cancer drug patients will have been diagnosed and in care beforehand. It’s not the same scenario.
@jo0ls_dee5 жыл бұрын
I understand where you're coming from, but anything could be used recreationally with horrible outcomes. Look at Fentanyl: it's great in a medical/clinical setting, but recreationally it is horrendous. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be an option in a clinic/hospital setting for those who need it. Ketamine infusions have saved my life. I would never do it outside of the clinical setting for medical benefits. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be seen as positive within that clinical setting.
@tsullia5 жыл бұрын
julied945 It definitely should be available. The research is there and besides that, your experience and others says enough about its potential benefits. I think I’m going the long way around saying our system is broken, because we can’t access much effectively never mind something such as clinical ketamine. If someone in NHS offered it to me now, with my treatment plan in place, I’d say yes absolutely. But as in my first comment, the ketamine I see people take is so inferior, and I fear for anyone who isn’t rational enough to make the distinction when the subject of ket comes up as a potential solution to mental health problems. This channel is obvs more geared towards US viewers, the reality is in the UK even cannabis isn’t fully available.

@@tsullia You don't get ketamine therapy if you haven't been diagnosed and in the care of a mental health clinic or private psychiatrist. You also don't get it if more standard antidepressants are working for you so it is the same scenario. In addition, it is available in the UK at two hospitals but on a user pays basis = 250 pounds per infusion. You need a referral. That is great but it is very expensive for people who are severely depressed and haven't worked in awhile. I couldn't work for six months but was able to go back to work after it. Luckily I had enough savings to pay for it and now I am working again, I can pay for the maintenance doses. You have the treatment in a clinic/hospital, they don't give it to you to take home and nobody I know who takes it for this reason abuses it in any way. It should be at least partly funded because the actual drug is incredibly cheap - much cheaper than ECT etc. The amount of it in an IV or IM costs approximately $10 US dollars. If people are working in a public mental health hospital they don't need to be paid anymore than they are getting for turning up to work there. Private care is different because they have to pay rent and expenses as they are not government funded. If you don't want to try it, that is your decision, but don't try to block it for other people. However, I think you should try it, there's a 60-70% chance you'll benefit in some way, which is a lot more than any other antidepressant, psychotherapy, ECT or TCM therapy. I was dangerously suicidal and it got rid of those feelings immediately. Anyway, I hope you find something else that works for you if you are too worried to give it a try. Wishing you a speedy recovery and no relapses.

What if your are sensitive to Glutamate in food and what if you have intolerances or more sideeffects then positive effects to antidepressants also tianeptin which is also working on glutamate and nmda receptors, when they all make you more nervous then you are already are and worsen insomnia. Is then ketamin therapy a bad idea?

Why? What are you suffering with/Your diagnosis? I’m suffering severely with severe anxiety disorders, mood disorders, cptsd, dpdr, etc 24/7. And I don’t want to and can’t take or go back to anti-depressant. But there isn’t any other solution or medications that science have made, except this. But I’m afraid that I’ll use all my savings for this and then it doesn’t work or just wears off shortly after?

@@heytherenordic7230 hi, I didn’t mean to discourage anyone from trying this. I don’t have any regrets, but expectations should be set. It’s not a miracle cure guarantee. In the past two days I have noticed a subtle uplift in my mood, & was planning on hopping on here to update my last comment. I have tried everything from plant medicine to kinesiology to cognitive behavioral therapy, you name it. This time I’m going back to basics and adding exercise and cutting out shitty food. I always relied on just one modality to be the savior and that’s just not realistic. I have to take responsibility for my depression and fight it like I would any other illness. I also suffer from severe PTSD and I’ve been doing an hour of meditation every day for the past few weeks and I can’t tell you how much it’s helped. it’s never comfortable to sit in our own pain but damn it definitely helps transcend it. I wish you the best of luck in your journey and much love.

@@menopostalsky I just got my infusion. The same day it helped with some anxiety. But the next day I suddenly got hit with severe dpdr/ dissociation(and I suffer with that too) and anxiety! And tomorrow is my 2 infusion, I’m afraid it’s making it worse..

I have a few questions. Is this ketamine treatment beneficial for BPD patients? And is this the same ketamine as you would find in a club? Lol And therefore, can it be dangerous AND addictive?? - because i tried ketamine as a recreational use, and i got pretty high... - but this will probably be a lower dosage? Thanks in advance

The Ketamine used for depression is a derivative of pure ketamine. The veterans administration is starting to use this fir PTSD. Another difference is how it is administered. Mental illness ketamine in dosed via a nasal spray vs an IV. It is given once a week. The patients are monitored for 2 hours before they go home. It as always has to be dosed by a Dr. It is never a medicine you dose yourself at home.

it is benificial for me and I have bpd and ptsd. It is not the same ketamine that people use recreationally, using it recationally is short lived and the peek of the high last 5-60 minutes. It can be addictive if you buy it on the street but you cannot take it home. Infusion and nasal spray you cannot take home. I get 100 mg started at 25. Recreational is high very quickly dies out fast and the infusions has that "high"for about 2 hours
