Tips from a longtime A4 Lover: - The instrument is essentially semi-modular, and you should look at it as such. Think of each voice like having a Mother-32 with many extra features and extensive digital controls. - The voices can be difficult to tame; they like deliberate tweaks rather than moving quickly in most cases, and IMHO that's how one gets the most rewarding sounds. - If you're ever struggling with the how to set up more modulations, remember that each voice has Velocity/Mod Wheel/Aftertouch/Breath Control "slots". - Don't neglect Performance Mode. It's best set up via Overbridge, but it makes the synth more enjoyable to use no matter how you sequence it. - A4 loves talking to other gear. Since you have that Mixer, send DAW tracks into it, to the FX (which can be sequenced!) and into the voices themselves! - Make extensive use of the CV I/O with anything you can. It gives any semi/modular gear Elektron's sequencer. - Make sure you have s good grasp on how Kits, Patterns, and the Sound Pool work (likely because you have an AR) Most of all, if you get hung up, let it lie for a few days and come back with fresh eyes/ears 😊 A4 really requires patience and practice to master, almost as much as OT, but it's an extremely rewarding Modular System, and there's absolutely nothing else even remotely like it.

I bought analog four Mark 1 not long after it came out and then I upgraded to Mark II immediately after it came out. it was my first analog synth and i still love it.

As a new Elektron box owner, I always felt they were a bit expensive but with the Digitakt II I feel its price is actually reasonable. What I struggle with though is the more expensive ones, like Rytm, Analog Four and Octatrack. I'm on the lookout for a good synth to complement the Digitakt and I have the M8 that fills that spot quite well but I've also recently renewed my interest in Roland's SH-4d. I like your content since quite a while back, so I really hope you can reconsider DistroKid as sponsor with their shady practices towards both artists and employees.

PSA: If you don't need individual outs and/or expression pedal inputs, the Mk1 of this synth used is absolute steal for the same sound engine (sliiightly tweaked tone wise but essentially the same)

i have the digitone, syntakt and a4mk2……20 outs directly into my daw using only 3 usb slots using overbridge…..works perfectly. not sure that the smaller boxes not having individual outs is a problem when using usb they can be used for individual outs over usb…???

It's a good point - it's just not the same though. IMO you lose a lot of character when you drop stems into overbridge. I remember doing it a while ago solo with the Digitakt and having to re add all sorts of FX in my DAW which changed the character of the original idea. Using hardware is just a different thing where you have more hands on control and it sounds better. I'm using the SSL Big Six which is fully Analog - but also audio over USB, but that character you hear through the mixer translates to your stems. It's apples and oranges in the end.

I dont think i will ever sell my A4. Underrated imo. I pair it mostly with a Roland Tr6-s. although it works also very nicely as a drum machine. Amazing dub chords too

I ahven't used it but I believe that it does have a euclidean mode which is cool - it's still not quite the same as Oxi One's Matriceal.

@@LordoftheBadgers I am still working with the "old" Digitone. Because it is only a part from a whole Track. And then the 4 different Sounds are enough. But maybe in the future, maybe. But for the moment I think the A4 is a much better support in my Workflow.
