Own the MK2 and love it!!! Had a Big Six and for a couple weeks loved it. Unfortuntely, the USB started to be unreliable. Would require the console to be powered off and let it cool down. Then would work again until it didn't. Could have been my unit, but that console got hot (normal). Tried everything to troubleshoot and was able to replicate it. Eventually ended up sending it back. It is an amazing product. Sounds great and is so flexible in a small studio.

@@LiamKillen - it could have been my unit. I liked the SSL sound so much I bought the smaller SSL 6 version without the USB. Have it going into a patchbay then to an audio interface. Works great, but you only really get main audio into DAW. Just sucks stereo channels don't get EQ like on the Big Six for a mix down. Not the same quality, but Tascam is coming out with a new model 2400 that looks promising. Still on the hunt for the perfect setup, but in the meantime using what I got. Enjoy your Big Six it's an amazing console/mixer - still miss mine over a year later. Makes the workflow so quick and sounds amazing.

There’s something to be said about finding the right gear that works best for the individual. I stripped down most of my gear arsenal to a select few and they just work great for what I need. I almost let go of the TR-8s to fund the Digitakt II, but after long consideration I decided to keep it. I think I’m done selling gear and finally have the units that work best for me. I wouldn’t have reached this point if I didn’t try the others out threw the years. However I haven’t considered the Analog Rhythm. The sequencer on Elektron gear is the best in the game for how I like to work. So I’m always considering other Elektron units for future inspiration. I appreciate the perspective on this subject.

to be fair, a lot of elektron users posting videos are barely using any of the features and all banging out the same overly distorted 'hard industrial techno' sounds It's capable of so so much more than most people jamming on them are making use of. Elektron devices are certainly 'trendy' so a lot of people who don't know what they are doing have them, but alongside that, the gear is actually as good as the reputation, especially the RYTM
@remyvegamedia3 ай бұрын
@@firstnamelastname7506 Yeah, I see that a lot haha. Most gear centered videos are oversaturated with fairly surface level uses of the gear that don't really demonstrate the more in depth capabilities. I've done a lot of deep dives for different uses of DT/DT2 specifically. I really enjoy the glitch, IDM, ambient, etc. stuff that can be done with it fairly intuitively. I'll definitely try one some day. I've spent HOURS watching tutorials so that when I can get one I will have an idea of where to start, so I can think/express musically, not just technically. I did the same with the MPC One so that when I got my hands on one I was able to just get started. But for now, Ableton has to do my bidding haha.

The British made Alice 828 is a similar format but a more old-school funky 70s broadcast-style console. It's a nice alternative to the Big Six, with a different vibe. And at a similar sort of price, at least in the UK. They can customise the channel choices, if you want more or less mic pres or stereo channels. I think the default is 3 mono mic pre channels, with EQ, and four stereo channels without EQ. You can use two of the stereo channels as RIAA phono inputs.

I second Liam. You won't regret it. Just be ready that in order to make good use of it you have to spend a fair chunk of time in the beginning dedicated just to learning new features. If you let yourself just jam on it too much (as opposed to deliberate, focused 'learning' sessions) it's going to be a lot longer before you use it to it's full potential. Every button has many different contextual features and the sooner you learn all of those, the more your palette is expanded, exponentially.
@firstnamelastname75063 ай бұрын
i'll also add that I used to have several other drum machines and have also toyed around with all kinds of drumsynth plugins and sample manipulators. Now that I have the RYTM I can do literally all of my drums entirely on it, the only exception being if I want some very specific audio processing, I will resample after running the signal out. But yeah sold my other grooveboxes after I got this, don't regret it, and don't feel the need to ever get any other drum-focused instrument ever again

that delay trick sent into the mixer channel is a dub mixing technique. you should also do it with a 2nd aux for ecxample reverb and then send a sound to the delay and send the delay channel to the reverb. this makes the reverb fx only apply on the delayed output and also with some delay which gives a sexy slapback effect. ofcourse you can do this with multiple fx and you can also make feedback loops and get real grimey >: ]

why not the octatrack that you can also use both as sequencer and sampler?

It’s not nearly as flexible as the big six with software / hardware and it auto sums up everything

What about the BigSIX conversion? Is it on par with other options out there?

I'm not sure what you mean by conversion.

If I remember correctly I read it in the Analog Four manual, that each pattern can have 128 parameters that has parameter locks on them. (Not parameter locks: 128 parameter that can have any number of parameter locks). There is no mention like this in the Rytm manual so I guess the Rytm has less parameters in a pattern than 128, which means you can NOT reach this limit on it.
