We live in Ohio and fish the Ohio river when we aren't working. We just got our boat this year so it's not 100% the way I want it yet but we are close. I need a bait tank but I don't want to spend 700 bucks. What kind do you use and what pump system? Thanks for making the videos we have fun watching Landon reel in the big ones lol

Hi Hagen! I had a question? That propane tank on your boat for your heat. Is that the 30# tank approximately 23.4 inch height? I wanted one a little bigger than the smaller 20# and noticed yours was a little taller than the smaller one. And how many hours will it last on high? Thanks bud! I invested in a good pair of neoprene gloves and bibb waterproof pants when I was catching bait in the winter. I fished Lake Lanier in Georgia and discovered that the shad as well as blueback herring schooled in the backs of creeks where the water was stained and shallower. I assume it had to do with the slightly higher temperature of the water there.

Tape nets are very useful as well. I catch Shad using Livescope. I use side scan and sonar to find big schools and then circle back using Livescope. Nothing like watching that net descend down over a school! Then when you see the shimmer of fish in the net it’s heaven! Do yourself a favor, take a day and just go find Shad. Usually you find them right when you are about to give up. Also, just because you can’t see fish(not Shad) doesn’t mean they aren’t there! If they are hugging the bottom you won’t see them on your display, but they are typically under those large schools of Shad. Also, use cut bait and live until you know what they want. Chum chum chum! A bad day on the water is better than a good day at work!

I have NEVER seen a video that explains how to read the electronics. I was sitting here screaming, "WAIT! WAIT! how do you know if they are on the right or the left, how do you know where to throw the net? It does no good to throw the net where there aren't any fish!" Great Video! Do more!
@240LTS

... By the time you see them on the side scan they are PAST the boat (behind it). Hit a way point on the school. Turn the boat around. Ease to the waypoint and get within cast net range of where you think they are and let the net fly. . Jeff . .

I like to use side scan to find them. Then instead of guessing about where 70’ or whatever is....I’ll head towards the school and switch to 2D. That leaves no doubt when and exactly where to throw.

Sorry for the late reply. The higher quality nets definitely open better. Something that helps a lot is to soak the net in a bucket of water with a few cups of fabric softener. Hope you get this follow up question.. I found the Garmin you suggested for $749 with the GT54UHD Transducer. I see they have discontinued this transducer and the same unit now ships with the GT56UHD Transducer for $1099. In your opinion is it worth that much more money to get the new Transducer or go with the gt54 since I am really a weekend angler until I retire in 2 years.

Then I'm going to lake tawokoni to go for giant winter time blues. I don't have proper sized catfish rod and reels, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse not to try.
