*Chris’ scout analogy is very good* what Bryan is doing is certainly adding to what we know and pushes things forward. The challenge is when this is seen as *THE WAY* because it’s working for one person. Although Bryan doesn’t say there’s only one way, the waters get muddied when he promotes and profits from *often* speculative supplements with little or no solid human evidence because it worked for him. "we are all after the same thing" it's essencially the same as when hundreds of years ago everyone was trying to produce gold and trying to find the essence of living forever. and those early experiments had become the fundation for the science of Physics and Chemistry. now it's a new wave of improvements in science that is chasing basically the same thing and gives birth to huge advancements in the way we think and understand things around us. i find it really fascinating (and a bit ironic) that the more we know about the world, it seems to teach us that the universe is finite and has no beginning and end but our physical existence does, no matter what we do. in a way the essence of us "living forever" is just to learn as much as we can pass that knowledge to the new generation and teach them to adept to changes, teach them to evolve faster to be able to survive while you are alive. and then our species can live forever, live through the death of our Planet, our Star, our Galaxy. not the individual itself, but ultimately we together as a whole consciousness with all our wisdom and knowledge.

Increasingly the "patient" (that is, the human!) is engaging in their own medical and healing process. Pros and cons to this. I recently reviewed the medical literature on a common heart arrthymia issue I'm experiencing (PVCs), and found a peer-reviewed article that suggested that electrolyte levels need to be measured to rule out simple etiology from magnesium/potassium levels being too low. I'm lucky that I know how to make (some) sense of the medical literature. Not everyone has access to the same databases or kind of information literacy to do that. So there is lots of room for misinformation and misinterpretation when we are getting medical information from podcasts, KZbin, etc. I think it needs to be supplemented by chatting with your personal physician, actually looking at the medical literature (not just popular sources), having some good scientific common sense, etc.

I've followed Bryan for a while and it's weird that he's set on this goal of living into the distant future but he seems to have no actual plans of what to do in the future. He's sacrificing variety of diet and activity ie he eats the same stuff every day and does fairly similar exercises etc all focused on his longevity but it's not like he's got any great mission or calling or anything. He seems to be trying to grow a cult of personality around himself and sell some overpriced products but apart from that he seems to just be obsessed with being a very old man one day. There's fairly limited novelty in just being very old so I don't know what he's going to talk to the hypothetical future people about since he's sleeping documenting all he's doing 🤷‍♂️

@@_cloudface_ I think it's worth considering that he states that his quality of life and spirituality are currently at their peak. For him, variety might not feel like a sacrifice. It's possible that our own habits, like the constant pursuit of dopamine, make us crave variety more than he does. He's also been open about his goal to build a community around his 'DON'T DIE' philosophy and his ambition to leave a lasting impact that resonates with people in the Twenty-fifth Century. That seems like a very meaningful and inspiring mission. I'm not a dogmatic follower, but what he's doing is pretty extraordinary.

Just a thought… some people (like me) can’t swallow vitamin pills (I had a laryngeal spasm three months ago while downing my usual vitamin, and now I can’t swallow pills anymore… crazy but true) so for me… powdered vitamin drinks are the way to go. I don’t take AG1 or Bryan’s longevity mix, but a competitor. And it does seem to give me more energy. Anyhow… just wanted to point out that unfortunately some of us can’t swallow pills, so powder for drinks are the only option (aside from eating healthy unprocessed foods)

Honestly I disagree with some comments, he doesn't need to do all those massive trial and take risk on his own body to make U buy anything. I think called him scam is a bit unfair. Respect different approach. (other company out there would just pour all the money into commerical/or hire influencers to promote)

You people are expert in longevity. I have one question, what is the proof that all of you will live to 80 or 90 yrs old. It’s all talk. I can say for a fact that I reach 86 yrs of age. I am male, I engaged in an exercise more than 40 yrs ago, and still doing it 4 to 5 times a week. Back then there was no internet, no you tube, so I don’t have the luxury of being advised by young guys how to live longer .My exercise put more emphasis on socializing, brain stimulation and most of all life enjoyment.

At the beginning, I really liked Huberman, but he had too many flaws in his statements or often exaggerated them. For example, his claims about posture and breathing increasing testosterone. Yes, it does increase momentarily, but it’s not a sustainable way to increase it in a meaningful way, such as promoting muscle growth or compensating for declining levels with age. Such statements hurt his reputation as a scientist because any true scientist would provide the full context. Additionally, his views on ADHD are not accurate- I have ADHD and suffer a lot, so I spend a lot of time diving into the science. Being a scientist myself, albeit in another field, helps. His affiliation with AG1 reflects this as well. I’m quite into supplements, and the first thing I noticed when I saw the price and ingredients was how overpriced it is. No thanks.

The music analogy kinda falls short imo. Surely some consumer facing well-being strategies are better than others, unless Dr Huberman is presupposing that all of these products and health tactics are rigorously tested and evidence based. I'm sure that's not what he meant, though.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) warns consumers not to use prohibited herbal preparations containing the ingredient tongkat ali because they may be carcinogenic. I'm 44 and I look 10 years younger than Bryan Johnson, and far more fit/muscular. And I don't do jack shit to look younger. I drink Coke and eat tv dinners and ice cream everyday. The only thing I do is lift weights for intense 40-60 minute sessions 4 to 5 days a week. And stay out of the sun. I think your genetics play the biggest role. Bryan looks sickly. He looks like an old alien or vampire trying to pass as human. Idk what it is he's doing that makes him look like that but it's not helping. He looked normal in pictures of him from like 10 years ago.

What bryan is doing is very catabolic: caloric restriction even at low bodyfat, eating lentils as his main source of protein, lots of fat and fruit instead of grain (which would make complete protein), IF instead of eating throughout the day and doing the exact same workout every day with exact same weight and reps so there is no progressive overload. But he does sled pushes 🤔
