they wrapped up the chel story nicely. but by settingaperture in the same universe as black mesa that means she gets out at the end to pressumably a earth thats taken over by the combine. or just completely dead because its been 9999999*@#&£!? years. the laco of enthusiasm for half life episode 3 could have been fixed by tying these characters together and having theme work together to free earth. rather than endong portal entirely amd never using ay of those characters. and then having a weak "gordon cant defeat the combine" ending to half life that no one wanted to make. chel, glados, atlas, pbody working together with gordon, alyx, barney, sheppard etc. along with gravity gun and portal tech, theres so much more potential there than just the aurora boreallis plot

It could be a Sequel(different character or Chell). It could take place at the same time as Portal 1(different character). It could take place at the same time as Portal 2(different character). It could take place between Portal 1 & 2(different character). etc. We've heard from multiple sources at different times that certain people involved with the first 2 games(I'm sure even people who weren't)are interested in making a third game. We've even heard that there was an attempt to make Portal VR, but that was obviously a challenge. It's just a matter of when we will get Portal 3, not a matter of will we get it(same with Half-life 3).

The real reason is that GABE doesn't want to make it. Gabe Newell is pulling a John Carmack and cares more about breaking boundaries than making video games, hence why the last two real games made by Valve were Counter Strike 2 and Half-Life Alyx, one being a multiplayer storyless game and the other being a pretty fun story but more so a tevh demo than an actual game. People have shown that they want a Portal 3 or especially a Half-Life 3, and the devs for both games respectively have also shown interest in making more installments, but sadly Game and Valve don't care, they want more technology to run games despite them not making any games and making Source 2 which honestly looks like it can barely do much.

It took them 4 yrs to make portal 2 after portal 1. It's been a decade and the best valve can do is pulling a Titanfall 3 with tf2 and a Overwatch 2 with CS2. Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't Portal and Half Life 2 are happening in the same time and space? In Portal theres a projector that says Apeture sicence in collaboration with Black Mesa, and in HL2 ep 2 theres a moment where they show a train with a Apeture logo. So if the two games are connected and in HL2 the main reason that humanity is kept alive because they are the closest to invent a teleportation device(or something like that), maybe they will connect a the two games in some way and close both of them in a grand finale?

The reason Portal 3 was not made was not because Valve didn't want to make the developers do something they didn't want to do. That was a cop out. The developers work for Valve. Well, it's also very hard to top Portal 2, at least from a character perspective. GLaDOS was peak there. Also, while I'd adore more time with the Monotone Monarch of Sociopathic Snark, hallowed be Her name, from a story perspective, it'd be extremely unwieldy to try and shoehorn an explanation for why the threequel exists into a third game. Things ended pretty definitively with Portal 2. I'm honestly quite content with where things are at in the franchise. If you ask me, there doesn't need to be a third game.

The base is blowing up all around them.. a big server falls on top of Dillon's daughter.. pinning her to the ground.. it's so heavy that both Regina and Dylan can't even budge it.. the clock is counting down & the base is about to explode.. he asked her Regina do you still have the disk of the third energy data.. she goes to hand it to him to take it, but he says no take it with you go back to our time build your own time machine and come back and pick us up.. she says I will I promise. She goes to the time gate takes one last look at them then goes through.. the base is exploding all around them and Paula Dillon's daughter says Papa.. because she couldn't talk because she got injured and was put in a healing machine that was originally designed to heal the Dinos so it made her protected dinosaurs and she lost her ability to really speak.. as the base is exploding a giant server is about to fall on top and crush the both of them.. Dylan puts his arm up in an attempt to shield the both of them.. then the cutscene slows down and stops when it's right above then and......... BOOM credits. 😢. We never knew if she was able to or not.. just like with that game I'm pretty sure there are enough people who love portal and half-life that would make people at Valve a substantial amount of money if they REALLY did a PROPER sequel.

Honestly portal doesn’t need a third installment. The story was pretty well wrapped up with the release of Chell and the cooperative testing initiative which essentially means there isn’t much more story to tell after that. Maybe a prequel or in between story but who would be the main character? Besides there is still a strong modding community that has already made (or about to release)“portal 3” with their own characters and voice acting. I saw a trailer for one of these mods that takes place between 1&2 not to long ago and it looked awesome! I thought it was an actual valve trailer! In short valve doesn’t need to make a new portal game as the modders and even players creating custom test chambers on the steam edition create more than enough content to keep the game alive.

It’s also the lack of reason for portal three to make sense it’s not as if our current protagonist would ever be inside aperture again anyway so unless they wanna introduce a new one it’s never happening. (Actually if we got a game with the portal games from GLaDOS‘s perspective that could be interesting)

Why does it have to be a joke? Say what you mean. It was a great two game run, but much like Half Life and Left 4 Dead Valve seems to lose interest after a sequel. Loved both games though.

Yeah that checks out, it's the actual way of working from Valve, there aren't going to make you work on something you don't want to and if there isn't enough people on a project well you just can't make it

the real reason is look at the end of portal 2 ITS THE END a lovely end too and there's no half-life 3 is what more can you really add to half-life the closest thing to portal 3 that we have the closest chance of getting F-stop.

If Valve bosses really wanted a Portal 3 they could have asked the community but ofc it would make them seem not good enough to make the game themselves so what stops them is basically staying official.
