Hafswa Mikal can’t blame the women on this one. The African leaders are generally corrupt and inhibit development of their own countries. There are blueprints already on how to develop a country rapidly - just look at the histories of the “Asian Tiger” economies. However African leaders ignore what is there and screw over their own people, then ask the diaspora to come back. Come back to what?? I admire countries like Rwanda and a few others who are doing a great job. In fact, I think the Rwandan govt are using the Singapore model for economic growth and it’s working. African countries have tons of resources but the leaders steal from their own countries. So now someone smarter comes in from the private sector and takes advantage. It’s really that simple.

I live in Houston, Texas and always try to support local black-owned businesses. Unfortunately, I have found that black owned businesses in Houston often price their goods and services much higher than the local Asian-owned businesses. The first thing that comes to my mind is that the black-owned businesses are probably more interested in getting rich quick than serving their community.
@American_negroid_woman3 жыл бұрын
Actually most asian have been getting there products cheaply so they sell them cheaper. Also there was a redlining strategy Americans did so that black people could not sell within a certain distance from Asian stores it was especially hair/beauty supply stores. If asians are manufacturing the products so when black owned stores buy the manufactured products they won't get the same deals as Asians making selling to you higher.
@ricya1982 Жыл бұрын
@American negroid woman nice theory but no. I been around and see how Blacks buy products. They don't buy in large quantities to get the price at lower. Asian buys 1,000 but thr Black wants to buy 20 but want discount of 1,000.

A big piece of information that you're missing is that the Chinese have the government bought out so it cost less for them to clear containers off the wharf. Same thing in Jamaica the locals are priced out of the market before the goods even touch land, because of the inflated customs fees which the Chinese don't have to pay or only pay a small percentage of.
@Pk-lx4gh3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, the Chinese are able to get cheap loans from the bank of China to fund their businesses and like you said, they circumvent paying taxes whether legally or illegally. They also team up to bring in containers at a time hence it's cheaper for them due to economies of scale. I'm guessing sourcing the goods in China is also easier for them.

Good presentation but, here's the issue. There are Africans in China, in Gengzhou, and they aren't allowed to do what China is allowed to do in various African countries. If China says we want to compete in various African countries, open up China then to Africans. But yeah, China is finding markets. So, we can either complain or do what they do. I've said for a long time let China and America build factories in Africa. Let them pay not great wages. You'll get the technological know-how of how their products are built from the ground up and then Africans can make knock-offs and then their own versions of products. Japan, South Korea and China did that at least in the last century. Maybe Rwanda has that idea now.
@IamElephant3 жыл бұрын
You say there are Afrikans in China and they can't do what the Chinese do in Afrika. But WHY can't Afrikans do what China can do in Afrika? It's because we having given the power to others to fix our problems. China doesn't care about our market they don't care a about Afrikans as a whole. I'm not discrediting your comment let me be clear. But you shouldn't be asking why we can't do things somewhere else when we aren't doing the things we need to do in Afrika. The locals and Government Officials can stop this from happening (I'm not getting off topic about the Gov cause it will lead to a deeper topic that we are not on) but when you have control and power you can dictate what you happens. If your house was on fire and your neighbor across the streets house was on fire, are you going to take the bucket of water meant for you and put their fire out before you? We can find the markets they are right in front of our face, but our egos and pride get the best of us. Think about all the places we shop in the States...None of them are Black owned. We still think small at times (Small business are a must) But we still are play T-Ball when others our play Major League. The Chinese and Others are Group thinking. There people are toxic but doesn't mean you do not learn from your enemies use their tactics for the betterment of our people. They think of their people above all even if people have to die for the greater good and growth of their people. Power is what the seek.

@@IamElephant Good points, Ty. I think we need to get a backbone and set terms. Problem is Africans need them. But if China is investing, they may need Africa as well, at least some countries on the continent. Take advantage of that. And yes, if say, Ghanaians, are in China, they should have more opportunities to provide a market for something Ghanaian businessmen find China is lacking. The terms should be equal or reasonably equal for investment in both countries. At any rate, some resentment is there due to different terms of Chinese in Africa vs. Africans in China.

There is no lie in here words. Also people need to understand WHY we outside the continent shop at amazon or go to walmart, Target and what not. Just because the location has changed doesn't mean we still don't want places to be convenient. We as a people hold on to things to much and wonder why we are others are getting over us. We pay too much attention to distraction and not the problem. We ladies and gents are the problems at times. This video open my eyes and I must think differently. There are ways to do both. Have our own One-Stop-Shops while still supporting the locals. I agree that the "Not telling of price" is dumb. Just because "You've Always Done it This way" doesn't mean it is still valuable or the most productive way. That is what China Mall is doing. It is bring VALUE to people while maximizing their output. If you can't bring Value to people then there is no need for you. This goes for anything in life. Also pay attention to the name. CHINA MALL. What is that telling you? They don't give a damn about Afrikans as a whole. They just care about that Afrikan money. Thank for this.

Ty Stone that is possible for African vendors all to put together have a place built air-conditioned proper lighting and they can all have their vegetable stalls they have here in America they sell the same thing they all have vegetables and fruit but they're all conveniently located in the same location. Now these people who have the building can rent it out to Chinese people or anyone else coming in but they will be the owners. All it takes is for them to put their money together because that's what Chinese people do they put their money together and they open up these malls are they open up these West End sort of vegetable stands and all of them are selling the same thing. I also have to say when it comes to Imports you have to find someone who's not going to cheat Africans and charge them more a lot of time in China gets a lot of their brooms and mops and whatnot from China so they're at a advantage when it comes to the goods that they sell however if all everybody who is selling in that area pool together get a building or build a building so that they all can fit in there and make it convenient and display their prices it's a win-win. Not only that Chinese people get you in and out there not dragging along and taking their time and acting like they're doing you a favor they know about customer service. People want convenience and they want fast they don't have time to stand around

This is the same thing when you visit the Caribbean countries as well. I lived there for one year, and that was one of my biggest issues running around the entire place to get everything I needed, while having to deal with the price gouging from the locals. This is because of greed from SOME of the locals not all but a majority who tries to gain the most profit off a foreigner whenever they can. It's the same way in the us as well. Some blacks tend to visit black businesses and be on that hook me up mentality, but would pay what's advertising in other people's businesses. The mentality there is because it's been done for so long, and the many locals that does price gouging is on that come up mentality by any means necessary, and two they would laugh at you if they succeed. But the stuff the Chinese are selling is cheaply made, which you can see for yourself and they know this, but they also know you will buy it because they have it all centralized and at a set lower price. Black people have become so conditioned of depending on others for our needs not all, but a Majority. It's our culture that's preventing us from going fwd.

Canadians pay the most, then Americans, then Mexicans with American accents, then wealthy Mexicans! If I walked into a mom and pop convenience store to buy a can of soda, the wife would ask the husband for the price. He would look at me and decide how much I should pay. If the daughter worked the store the next day, the price would be different. So I would walk pass the mom and pop and give my business to the Oxxo which is like a 7-11. Corporate. So I OVERstand the young lady's frustration. Great video!

If we can have black people with money build and own these one stop shopping malls, with fair competitive prices, only then can they complain if Africans are still not patronizing their shops. Most people on the continent don't care much about racial issues. They care about convenience like you said. All those people, especially our brothers and sisters in the diaspora, who are constantly complaining about the Chinese, the Lebanese, etc taking over Africa, put your money where your mouth is. Come to the continent and invest in businesses that'll compete with these non black owned businesses, and we will support you.

I appreciate the objective and honest content. This is great, honest and objective information and a very thought provoking video. Some of the comments are equally as honest and as good. I will reiterate Kama's previous comment that I also feel poses a problem: We throughout the Diaspora have a ridiculous amount of knowledge, but we don't have deep pockets in comparison to other foreigners. This may limit our ability to pursue infrastructure-related projects that will serve the public (e.g. roads, bridges, dams, power grid, etc.). However, I wouldn't be discouraged. There may be government procurement policies in place by the host country, which may include funding available for projects. This brings another great suggestion you made in previous video: establishing relevant business connections. In any event, the retail industry is a great example and got people discussion potential solutions. You're making priceless and very important content my friend. We owe you a debt of gratitude. Much respect and appreciation.

This was excellent. It really has me thinking. I wonder if the real reason so many BP in America wanted integration was for this very reason. We weren’t convenient enough. Definitely have me thinking

Pricing things by haggling and bartering has been traditional culture in most countries for generations. Societies naturally transition out of it. It takes time to change. African society is in transition and needs time to change however the competition does not give you that time to change. The competition exploits the lack of development and the effects of lagging behind. Africans can't compete in this situation unless African governments protect African enterprise! Unfortunately for developing countries but fortunately for the Chinese, the Chinese have arrived at a time when many countries are at the early developmental stage. I recently watched a Ghanaian KZbinr who went to the African market place to buy something but wasn't satisfied so she said that she would need to go to The China Mall. Your analysis and your presentation sir is 👍🏾

Indians, europeans and Chinese always came from stable home governments and strong cultures ready and willing to support their people. europeans simply done a good job in making Africa more divided and dysfunctional. African schools still spend more time teaching Africans about the greatness of europe and not enough time promoting, teaching and strengthening African history and culture. We are nowhere near "free".

Great points. ...local got to get some more business etiquette. To compete. It's very simple . Like you said solve problem and have great prices. ..maybe some local store want to get rich over night.vit just don't work. In business school if you can exploite the competition by PRICE then DO IT.

They recognized how the mind works and are putting their understanding into action. Intelligence is using the mind effectively and to gain from experience. The black problem is a lack of awareness in so many dimensions. True education is experience, knowing why, what, who, when and where about situations, etc.

Also, the diasporans that complain about respect need to get into the specialized technology sector(start building railroad, cars..etc) to earn the local admiration. The Chinese are doing that now.

What I want to know is, how much of the products found in china mall are made in china? does Africa have the ability to manufacture those same products at a lower cost? It is madness for anyone to compete with china mall when the products being sold, are ONLY made in china.

Nice one O! Grand tidings bro! Enjoyed your well balanced presentation in your Vlog about Art and her impending exit... if I may add my penny to the discussion Art should put into consideration that the peoples in every country in Africa has been and continue to be abused and oppressed to the point of living as the abuser themselves. The pain she’s running from, by her broadcast she’s unintentionally caused the same pain to her adopted homeland. She should in my humble opinion try to resolve the issue in public because she made it so. It may not work immediately but her actions will eventually open new doors to her.

Same in Malawi! Convenient Chinese mall! Set prices and everything in one store. Africans still can't unite to do this! And they are still "price-juggling"--changing the prices from person to person! They still don't realize this is a losing strategy in the long run!

I remember going to little Jamaica to shop with my parents in North America.. My parents would go downtown at least twice a month to buy Caribbean food supplies, hair care, shin care or just to socialize with people from the Islands.. While we were shopping a young Chinese man who looked to be in his late 20's came into the Caribbean store with a clipboard.. He looked as if he was going to buy something, as he walked up and down the different aisles writing on his clipboard.. When he was finished writing and walking up and down the aisles, he then looked around the store to see who was the manager or owner.. The owner was a Jamaican Chinese man who was standing not to far from the young chinese man, with the clipboard. The owner didnt notice the young man because he was to busy stacking his shelves and socializing with his regular customers who would often come by to pick a chat with him and maybe buy some of his famous delicious beef patties or Ital vital patties, which is vegetarian patties and what Raspberries like to call them.. Anyhow when the young clipboard Chinese man was finished writing down all the products and things that Caribbean people like to eat, wear and to have. He then looked around to see I'f there was someone in charged of the stores.. When his eyes locked on to a middle age Jamaican Chinese man, he then walked over to speak with the owner and told him how he could get all of the stuff in the store for a much cheaper price..That part I couldn't understand because they both spoked in their mother tongue language of Cantonese..When the two men were talking I wanted to know what was said. But by then my mother had wanted to know too so she walked over to her friend the owner and asked him what the young man had wanted..Then the owner told her what was said.. My mother pondered a bit and she too thought that it was a good idea, where she would no longer have to pay so much money just to buy some of her back home foods... Years later when I got into my late 20's when the 90's came along, I started to notice that black businesses were starting to disappear.. And the Asian's were now taking over and selling black goods.. From the type of foods that we eat to the wigs and hair extensions, along with our style clothes, skin care, hair lotions and the type of jewelry that we like to wear.. These people have done their homework on us, and if they had to clone us they would know how to do that too.. In North America we had alot of black businesses when I was growing up. But because our parents and community didnt tell us the importance of doing for self and having your own business. They dropped the ball. But they would stress the importance of a good job and education which meant working for someone else other than ones self our community, because working in a store was looked upon as something that was low class, even if it was your own busines..... This was one of the causes of our demise in the black community..
