sometimes they just lose compression and will still run until they have no fuel. Gotta drain the oil and antifreeze first. Even then sometimes they'll have enough old gunk and sludge to get by for a while. When it finally does go it's usually either really boring and anticlimactic or you've accidentally made a bomb and some regrettable choices.

Part of the reason for the abuse was that the transmission was manual and I forgot how to drive a manual. Anyhow, by the time I handed back the car one month later, no obvious transmission problems manifested themselves, but seeing what could have gone wrong with the transmission (and by extension with my bank account) sends chills to my back.

my brother had a 2000 nissan y61 petrol manual, he was me driving to school one day and a mid-sized SUV suddenly braked infront of us. the brakes didnt save us from the crash so he downshifted from 4th gear 2nd. barely missed hitting that SUV. still, he drove it 3 more years without having much issues with the clutch and gears, just a minor clutch adjustment and that was it.
