Best 7 things you can do with this car are 1: fit a larger inter cooler for the supercharger, 2: Split the cooling system, 3: Upgrade the intercooler pump, 4: Fit a 77mm clutched pulley, 5: Fit 550cc injectors, 6: Get a tune (Eurocharged, VRP, German Muscle etc etc), 7: 1 step colder plugs. That will give you the best price to performance ratio - assuming you do the work yourself you'd be into it for about $2,000 to $2,500. I went a little further with short headers and a 92mm throttle body but really the cost of those and having them fitted was not worth the gain. Oh and get the supercharger serviced as well. Great fucking car.

I wanna buy an E55 so bad. BUT unfortunately the market here in Germany is pretty much non existent. There are many many great cars for sale. However you will never ever get rid of it again. Nobody wants to buy these cars. And Im not a fan of losing money. Its crazy to see those insane milages in the US. A car with 200.000km (125.000 miles) would pretty much be considered a piece of junk ready for the junk yard. It would be impossible to find anybody who would buy a car with this crazy milage. The E55´s in Germany have like 80.000km on the clock (50.000 miles). Also the SBC brake is pretty amazing. Its not a bad thing at all. When it works properly its by far the best braking system you can have and stops the car much earlier than a normal brake.

125k is just getting started for lots of these benzes. I’ve seen E500s for sale with 400k+ miles and still on original Powertrain. That’s rather odd that the home of the Mercedes doesn’t keep them around long. Parts would be cheaper there and more people would know how to work on them in their domestic market. My family has a 2006 E350 as our “extra” car and it only has 67k miles. Which is very low for a 2006. I personally love SBC and it’s a non issue since the recall extended the warranty to unlimited miles and 25 years in America. The stopping distance and feel under super harsh braking is incredibly good. It does feel pretty natural too.

Make sure it's well documented and timely maintained. Know how to do the work yourself and opt into a warranty if applicable. I have a 2006 s55 amg. Other than oil change and lightbulbs. The only things I've done on the car is a crankshaft sensor change, a flex joint replacement and a transmission mount replacement. The ABC is the most costly part to fix at generally 13k (which is why I bought mine with a bumper to bumper warranty). Im trying to explain the idea behind the SBC brake: The system was involved to increase or decrease the braking power for each wheel and to "sensor" how you brake to give you to oppertunity to decide whether its an emergency brake or a comfort one. The speed you hit your pedal does the magic. It recognizes how fast you push your pedal down and how far you do it. Normal brakes just build up one-time pressure and do not regulate after the brake has been hit. For example the SBC does the "brake/not brake" thing when it's raining itself. Regular systems can cause the car to become unhandable while the SBC is contaniously monitoring the pressure given to the brakes and switch those pressures for a better handability and last but not least safety reasons as its getting informations which wheel is how fast and whats necessary to adjust to keep you in lane while giving you the maximum stopping power. Another reason is for comfort: With the SBC System you can just slightly tap your pedal and it will stop the car real "soft" or even KEEPING it stopped when at a hill (push brake down, then release, you won't roll away). You don't need to release pressure when stopping at a red light for example - the system is doing the job for you. The system itself is a real improvement to normal hydraulic brakesystems, but like you said: In the early models it's not that reliable as a regular braking system and causes some as we call in Germany: "Stuck at kid shoes" which means the early adopters could get a version that's not that durable and cannot be switched or fixed reliable. But you're right: You have to service that thing a way lot more than normal brakes as it's giving it's brake states to the ECU which then, when a fixed value is reached switches the whole car to "emergency mode" and reduces the power. Beside that, its been an adopted system and not an invention of "Germans" ;). The first SBC was built into an Toyota, and Mercedes did not even built it in their Model 2006+ (Mopf) E-Classes. Now models like the Prius2 and some Lexus are using it.

Both cars are very reliable but I do, do all the maintenance to both cars myself. Plus I only ever use genuine MB parts if any repairs do need to be carried out on either car. My AMG E55 has never broken down or let me down in over 3 years of owning it. My 320 CDI daily drive is bulletproof I've started to believe. I got so bored with never having anything to do to my E320 CDI other than change tires and pads plus services that I decided to change all discs n pads all round, plus changed all suspension/steering components at a total cost of £478.00 in which I thought was cheap......and my time of course! That sensotronic is a life saver, I had situations on the snow when I taught I have autopilot while braking, I was sure I will ditch out of the road but than SBC kicked in, or should I say ESP...that limousine is made to go crazy fast and heavy , old brakes just wouldn't do in all occasions...and it can go bad but not dead, it has dedicated small battery under the cabin filter. No air suspension sucks, not the same physics at all. Rear air struts are repairable, it is around 200$ per strut here with a 2 year guaranty, and they can go over 5 , unfortunately we are far away but I can imagine sending that by mail for reparation is possible and affordable if it is not a daily driver, and if you do the other part yourself. Not sure about front air struts, probably repairable too. They all bleed at the same place, when send dust or salt gets through protecting shield, that's why its good to check them every oil change, refresh that if needed. And they can go irreparably bad if not installed properly.

Just another example of Mercedes-Benz innovation--which they back-up with an extended 25-year warranty on the SBC pump. For longevity, all brake systems need a 2 yearly fluid flush. However, the SBC logic is programmed for a finite life-span of about 300,000 applications of the brake pedal.

So I have a 545i and have had to pull the motor myself, put in a used motor after I changed all the seals on it and have had the trans rebuilt...it drives great, but it's a fucking money pit. My next car is an E55 and I bet with some small mods that thing can be even more of a beast!

Cool video. Does the w210 E55 AMG have the same issues? That’s the one I got my eyes on..😍
@RT-rv5be5 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. No supercharger. No airmatic. No SBC. Lighter car than W211 E55.

W210s have rust issues so look for car that's been local to a dry climate and away from snow/salt.

Another problem with these cars is the conductor plate failing and leaving the car in limp mode. If yours hasn't been replaced, you should probably replace it. Also, definitely change the Trans fluid if it's never been done. These cars supposedly have the "lifetime Trans fluid" but that's not true at all. Awesome video!

The Conforti Brothers same thing for pretty much every Mercedes transmission of this era. (Just realized I follow you guys on IG, I really enjoy your posts. I think it’s so cool you guys have an E55, E550, and E350. Plus a few more😂)

Note SBC has no permanent fix. It is based on number of time u apply breaks and count down start ticking then you need to take back to shop. I think for sl 500 which has same engine also same issue. I used to have Mercedes I sold it as instead of looking cool I look like tool with that car. Always fixing some thing. Make video after 3 years on same car

Why e55 AMG and not e63 AMG or e60 AMG
@MotownModels5 жыл бұрын
amar berane The M156 6.2 motor in the 63's are way less reliable than the M113K 5.4 SC in the 55's. You can create much more power for way fewer dollars due to the forced induction on the 55. Also, I don't think there's such thing as an E60.

4 + minutes in.. I drive a E320 2002 version, it has the "bad brakes" and has the "terrible " air suspension.. and yet.. it was bought 1st owner at 200.000km miles? check yourself... I did not do anything to the car, cause it was allready full serviced, I just put in a Liquid Gas Injection to it.. so only 1 mile/ 2 km drive , engine is up to certain temp over to Liquid Gas we go... if you dont know what Liquid gas is.. search and you willl know.. it is compressed gas into a 70 liter ( no gallons sorry) tank, and i can fill up to around 80% of that amount.. for me.. it is around 50 liters.. and I can drive 390 km for 0.55 cents per liter ( again sorry no gallon, make your own math) and drives great.. But what I find here in this "vid"is a mocked up 211 dressed with a E63 body that was facelift version, cause original was e55 amg and was seriously hurt by low maintance and tthis "person" vids it 0out as a , "what to look for "video.. really? My former W210 ( station E320 4 matic) did over 500,000km with normal use and service.. my "new" E did over 320.000km and still looks and drives great, due to my maintance .. My w211 2002 ( first one sold ) is a V6 5 automatic, with some good options.. SBC Breaks.. modded by MB in around 2003 it is now a 005 model SBC break, you can check under the hood on the SBC break for model number... if it is lower than 005, you need to think bout some cost. refurbished is around 300 euro in Europe.. part only) .. if it drives and goes it is okay.. think bout the 300 part later.. I have not thought bout it in 100.000km ( guess around 65000 miles...) Next.. the Airmatic.. it is on my 2002 E320, no worries no pains.. if it breaks, one side will cost around 200 euro, maybe 250 dollar.. and that is that, if it does go, change both sides.. cost for parts 500 dollar. .yeah not cheap but the ride is goddamn great. and worth 500 dollars for parts... and honestly, my 200.000km car is still on orginal Airmatic shocks.. I dont worry, just print it into my head.. and over 70.000 miles it is still going... and not worried at all... So yeah. some parts could be high priced and if you see first parts of this vid you will get a shock but ..damn you are looking at a fully tuned privat and custom car.. nothhing more or less. .looks fierce and so will your bill be.. my 2002 was first owner full stated car full service first owner.. and was at a good price, the Liquid Gas coversion was not cheap,but better go full premium than cheap ass broke.. gas prices here are aroudn 1.60 per liter.. x 4,3 for US gallons.. that will teach you to behave :) and LPG ( liquid gas petrol) around 40 cents per liter.. so yeah.. im doing this every time i get a good v6 or v8 mercedes.. and just drive and enjoy

2:16 traction control, that’s why. It doesn’t cut off power from the wheels to keep it away from the ditch. It brakes the wheels instead to keep it stable. Stupid, unreliable and inefficient way of traction control. You floor it and you feel like the damn ABS kicked in… 😂
