Electric bikes are gaining a ton of popularity right now but are still controversial. Is it cheating? Is it still mountain biking? I think the majority of people start mountain biking to have fun so if you can ride more trails and have a blast on the climb as well… Isn’t that the ultimate goal? I can totally relate here! Ive been mountain biking since the early 90's. Im now well into my 40's, carrying more than my fair share of injuries and they take their toll going up the hills. I recently got an ebike and it has literally changed my life! No more clicky, painful knees, no more dead left leg, just more time on the bike, more laps done and my skills have improved massively as a result. Ebikes dont suit everyone or everyone's situation, but if you're a "Darren" or a me then if you get the chance to even just try one id seriously go for it. Edit...missed the bit at the end where you said he could keep the bike! Thay was pure gold!

Definitely inspired by it but tried to put my own spin on it… Different Darren, different trails, twice the length, we rode 2 e-bikes, different person’s candid thoughts on his first day on a E-MTB… Paul’s thumbnail is split screen, mine isn’t. And there are millions of videos on KZbin with the same title, it just tells you what’s in the video! This was Paul most popular video and after he quit KZbin, I wanted to see if this type of video would have any traction on a channel like mine. Hope you’re not offended by the video, I simply tried to make something similar with our own style.✌🏻

So looking forward to buying an eMTB next spring, still have not decided on which one, but budget is a key factor. Having rented one for a day at a local "mountain" and again trying my friends new eMTB yesterday, it allows me to explore so much more than I otherwise would on my normal MTB. Only have 1-2 hours for a ride? Well you get to go further. Want to go out for an epic day adventure, the eMTB helps you do that physically! Keep up the great content!

Oval chain ring and a proper drivetrain setup helps. I've seen stupid e bikes, where there were a super heavy hub motor, tiny cassette, massive chainring, so without the motor the bike is useless. But that's a completely different type of e bike. This is not an department store e bike. The e bike in this video has a motor at close to the centre of gravity so will feel lighter. But an ebike is still heavier, but they got walking mode now. I've not had a go on a proper E bike yet. But a e bike will be heavier so will need some getting used to. I ride a 18.14 kg enduro bike.

Hey I get it, we all have struggles, recovering from an injury, illness or just aging. I ride a yeti 4-5 days a week on 15 mile rides with 3000ft climbs that start at 6000ft. I earn. I burn. But on the 4th or 5th ride my legs are smoked and I don’t want the usual road bike recovery spin. I bought a polygon colossus n8e. Threw in some raceface r36 carbon hoops and some oneup components bars and dropper. Now it’s 51lbs and rails the climbs faster than stock. On my ebike “recovery” days I’m logging 25mile rides with 5000ft of climbing. At my age I have the funds for two expensive bikes but time is precious and limited. At 25, I used to drive a beater Tacoma and had all the time in the world and no scratch. It’s flipped now. I’m 58 and I ride more than I did when I was 25.

While I can understand the benefits of an ebike, cost is certainly a factor. Sure, you may be able to get a Polygon, Vitus, or even a Marin emtb for a "cheaper" price, but 6k and up is a lot of money for an emtb. Inflation is a killer. Buying brand new is out of the question for many people (myself included) with how things are. Anyways, cool video nonetheless.

Absolutely enjoy the haters in here. They remind me of a time when all skiers fought to keep snowboarders off "their" mountains because we took up too much snow. Now, snowboarding is an Olympic sport, and history has not been kind to those haters. I race, on average, five to six Enduro races a year in my region alone and can outpace most riders uphill with my analog. That said, I have two eMTBs in my arsenal because out here in the PNW, we have numerous sanctioned and unsanctioned trails that are challenging to get to, yet some of the best single tracks in the PNW. Most of us riders enjoy sending the eMTBs because we get fare more laps in the same amount of time we would our analog excelling our skills and providing uphill opportunities we normally wouldn't have on our analogs. The benefits have spoken loudly and a reason why every pro rider out there now has an eMTB in their arsenal and why regions such as the EU (just as one example) have legalized eMTBs anywhere analog MTBs are allowed to ride. The argument that only the unhealthy or out of shape need an eMTB is old, outdated, and often laughed at within pro circles. So, let the haters hate. The eMTB market has absolutely exploded and States across the union are already adopting legislation to pave the wave for eMTBs to ride all local sanctioned trails including off trail. Yet another "creator" that produces content by consuming trails you don't create or attribute in your work. And you consume at 3-4 times the rate of others as you mention. By that measure, you should then give back 3-4 times what the "peasants" do. But...i reckon you don't. No sign of trail work in your video catalog. I'll suggest to you the same as I've said to other folks that produce things by consuming the efforts of others - at least tip your hat, thank the club/builders, and put a link to memberships or donations. Stop shilling bike parts. If you don't help build the world you consume, you'll just consume yourself.
