The mistake is to think that GM wanted to compete the Raptor and the TRX. If they actually wanted to compete, they would’ve destroy both. They have triple the budget lol. Like Mike said, they have everything in hand and even more to do so. They have the engine, the off-road knowledge, the base model is already a good truck to build whatever they want to it.Theres no actual reasons to be disappointed. Big GM fan here I have a 2019 GMC Sierra and love it, at 40,000 miles I have had no problems or issues. The TRX and Raptor are nice trucks but you're coughing up a lot of extra money for a lot of stuff you don't use or need on a daily basis. Chevrolet should have built the 1500 Trail Boss and GMC should have built the 1500 AT4 like the new 1500 ZR2 and 1500 AT4X. Chevrolet and GMC are after different market segments...lower vehicle price points with fewer OEM upgrades, options and accessories targeted to lower income demographic compared to similar type of vehicles built and offered by both Ford, Dodge (Ram) and Jeep. GM just goes 75 to 80 percent of the way with 4WD "specialty vehicles". GM always seems to fall very short of what their customer base really desires and wants....the Blazer, 2500 AT4, 1500 Trail Boss, 1500 AT4X and 1500 ZR2 are all UNFINISHED when they roll off the assembly line for this "vehicle segment type" compared to Ford with the F150 Raptor, F150 Tremor, Bronco, F250 Tremor, F350 Tremor and Dodge with the 2500 Power Wagon, 1500 Rebel and 1500 TRX. To top it off, GM does STUPID stuff regarding the details. The tires on the 1500 ZR2 should be on the 1500 AT4X and vice versa, The ZR2 is the more aggressive off-road capable truck but has no rock slider bars on the rocker panels. The Electric Precision Shifter (the handle) is not very ergonomic.....quite the opposite. Both engineering departments get a big F (FAIL) on that interior appointment. I would hate grabbing that cumbersome FAT horizontal handle each and every day while driving the truck! Actually, it is absolutely PATHETIC, the engineers dropped the ball by not designing an ergonomic SLENDER vertical handle that is pleasing to grab each day. On the other hand, the front and rear e-Lockers are a big plus...noticeable improvement over the previous G80 in the rear differentials. In addition, the high and tucked exhaust tail pipes are a welcomed detail on a 4WD truck. Both Ford and Dodge (Ram) would be smart to follow that exhaust cue on some of their 4WD off-road specialty type trucks.

Dude i don't know about you but when i got my Z71 colorado i was stocked and 2 years later i still love this damn truck. Now my last 2 trucks were frontiers and you think you had it bad with the GM'S man well guess again cause them Nissans are just pure crap and the interior in them feels really really and i mean really fucking cheap lol. Honestly GM may not have the interior of the RAM but it's definitely better than Fords interior and I'll say that because of been in both. Also you've got to realize that this is a truck man it's not a luxury car this is something that you use for work and that's what their really built for not really looks out high end luxury interior.

The fact that it's NOT a wide body is appealing to me. If you go on some of these shelf roads in colorado, a full size pickup is already on the big side. There are some that a wider body wouldn't fit (and yes, sometime your talking about inches). So It'll definitely have it's market and it's priced better.

For guys who actually off road, the ZR2 will work out great. If you're looking to drag race or be the highest truck at the mall, the ZR2 definitely isn't for you.
@kcscustom97593 жыл бұрын
Compared to the Raptor and TRX yes the ZR2 is a bit disappointing. However I think they acknowledged this and the fact that they weren’t going to one up the TRX so they settled on producing what is still the most off road capable truck that they have yet to produce, at a little more of an affordable price. And that is perfectly fine with me I’ll gladly own one.
@isenhouroutdoors85303 жыл бұрын
Also I think Chevy looked at it like if someone wants 700 hp, they’ll get the vette. I want a capable truck that’s excellent off-road and great on road where it’s a Swiss Army knife of sorts. That low mpg that the TRX has for paying over 90k for a truck is insane. I think Chevy went the route of more consumers having a chance to have an off-road truck. Not a 1000hp street racing truck.

You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Chevy completely screwed up by not offering a competitive truck with the raptor and the T. Rex. With the enthusiast nowadays you don't have to play at safe, people want the extreme and extravagant. And are actually willing to pay the extra money for it. so unless they surprise us all they definitely screwed up.

I think they did this to leave themselves room for a Raptor R/TRX fighter. This ZR2 lines up pretty well with a regular Raptor in all the performance characteristics, HP, torque, approach/departure angles, off-road goodies, etc. There is only one way the ZR2 comes, so there's no optioning it up to TRX price levels, so there's plenty they can throw at it and enter the Raptor R/TRX arena. Simply slapping on the supercharger from the Camaro ZL1 takes it to 650/650 in the HP and torque which is nearly the TRX levels. A little tuning and you're there. I think they did this on purpose to have an off-road capable truck in an affordable range, while still leaving themselves room for a halo truck.

The 6.2 engine has long been one of the best v8 engines on the market. May not have the horsepower but it has the durability. Lets remember Ram is owned by fiat and that engine won't last IMO. 6.2 v8 was and still is the king of the road. We will be seeing the horror stories in the future of all the fiat trx in the junkyard in 5-20 years while we will still be seeing the Silverado XR2 running wild on the streets.

The fact that you think a 10k price difference isn't a big difference to the standard consumer just proves that you are the wrong person to take care buying advice from. Your whole argument is about building hype. That may be a great business model for a youtuber, but something tells me Chevy make a calculated decision based on real world information.

It is very disapointing to see the new ZR2 , I own the 2020 Colorado ZR2 Bison and I love it, has the wide body and all the amazing off-road package you would want in a smaller pickup, the power is totally under rated with its v6 and v4 economy mode but it is missing that needed power you would expect from an offroad machine, I love my Colorado seriously, it's a great truck but it definitely needs a power boost, its sad to see them taking a step backwards with the ZR2... I wont be trading in my 2020 ZR2 Bison any time soon but GM needs to step up their game in the offroad community, Great video

"TRX sells like hot cakes" I would like to see legit sales numbers on that one? I doubt they are selling a ton of 80-90k trucks with 800hp that have near single digit fuel economy and towing that even mid size pickup's can do. ZR2 has 6.2 in it so super charger option's are massive for it to give it 700hp. the market for 700+hp truck is tiny at best.
