I'm 6'2 inches tall, and I can't put one foot in first when getting in, because that's a great way to break the seat back. Just turn around, sit down, and put one leg at a time in. Also, never use the steering wheel to get in and out, as it wallows out the pin holes that lets it tilt. Then the steering wheel becomes loose and wobbly, and expensive to repair.
@davidwillis3692 жыл бұрын

I've had my 6sp '94 Polo Green for 20 years and it's been extremely reliable. This week I took it in for a clutch fork and throw-out bearing replacement. Thought of doing the work myself but decided it was too involved. The only complaint is that the front suspension towers dance when pushed, especially when the top is removed. For those who may not know, the C4 was originally intended to be a T top for structural rigidity. GM's president at the time demanded the engineers redesign it to be a Targa (to compete with Porsche) so they had to enforce the frame hence the high door sills. Adding the X cross member from a convertible would greatly tighten it's rigidity and adding a camber bracket across the suspension front towers. I've also upgraded to Z06 18" wheels and Nitto tires which made a significant difference in handling. I still love driving her!

Had a company picnic in which it was tradition to do a burnout at the end. One of my coworkers had a C4 6 speed that he really wanted to do a burnout in but didn’t know how. Me, having had a couple wobble pops said - I’ll show you how - and he gave me the keys. So I went out, dropped the clutch in 1st, slammed the brake and did a nice standing still burnout. Feeling confident and that it would be even better to do the burnout in 2nd - gave it another go. Revved it up, popped clutch and hit the brake, and listened to that 350 v8 sing. After a few seconds realized, hmm, I don’t think that’s tires I smell. Yup - all clutch. My buddy said he could smell the clutch the whole rest of the night. 10/10 would do again.

That 370 horsepower in 1970 was gross rating while the 300hp LT1 rating in 1992 is net rating. So the 92 vette actually has more horsepower than the 1970.

@Selrisitai Жыл бұрын
The C3 really is the pinnacle of style. It doesn't have the obvious 90's "try-hard cool" look, but nor does it have the classic "old man car" look of earlier cars. It's like they tweaked the look until it looked good without adherence to the vogue appearance of the decade. While I'm strongly considering buying a C4, if I could get a C3 with the features of the C4, that'd be my dream car. Then again, if I could get a stock, 100% working, low-mile Mitsubishi 3000GT Vr4 twin-turbo, that would also be my dream car. Too bad the dang thing had so many bells and whistles that it's almost impossible to get _everything_ working without selling at least a portion of your soul.

3:00 -- "... the LT1 motor from 1970 making 370 hp..." -- That hp rating was gross power. Post 1972 the hp ratings are NET hp, about 70% of the gross power rating. Therefore the 1970 LT1 makes about 260 net hp. Comparing a 1971 LT1 'Vette to a 1992 LT1 'Vette, the '71 has a power to weight ratio of 0.08 or 12.5 lbs/hp (about) and the '92 is 0.093 (or 10.7 lbs/hp). The LT1 doesn't stand up to the LS series motors, but when comparing it to the '60s and '70s icons no apologies for the '90s LT1 motor are necessary.

Hey, the 1970 LT-1 had 370 brake horsepower - measured with just the engine by itself and not even in the car. The 1990s LT1 was rated using net horsepower (power at the rear wheels) and it's actually more powerful.
@tonyflorio32693 жыл бұрын
The LT-1 was measured in gross horsepower, with no accessories (alternator, air conditioner, etc) and optimized tuning (spark timing, no exhaust). After around 1971, the industry went to net horsepower, which is *not* measured at the rear wheels. However, the engine is tested 'as-installed' -- all accessories, standard tuning, full exhaust, etc. You are correct, though that 300 net hp is probably pretty close (or better) that the 1970 LT-1

I have several of these and my favorite by far is the 1989. Still get the iconic C4 digital gauge set and a Gen1 small block Chevy engine and all the perks that comes with that. So easy to get the 50 HP back from the LT1 (and then some) for small money and not have the opti issues. 90 and up interiors to me are far inferior and GM really missed the mark on those. But I'm in the minority on that opinion. The ZR1 had no chance against Porsche because of interior materials and the "sill" given the price point. But agree it's an absolute bargain and a great platform for sure. One of these days I'll pick up a '96 GS, lol. Highly recommend picking up one of these cars and sorting it out. I had my 1990 6 speed convertible running in the 12's no problem even with the TPI.

The rich guys had Lotus Esprits, Triumph Stags, lots of Datsun 240,260 or 280 Z’s, Camaros and Firebirds. You and your friends flew around in private airplanes ✈️! I love it that you still have your beautiful high school Corvette, most guys would kill to still have their high school cars. It’s awesome that Hoovie has the Mercedes SL that he drove and that his grandmother drove! What incredible lifetime memories to cherish for the rest of your lives.

Finally! I've been waiting for Elliott to do something with the C4 since I started following the channel. The targa top really is the best part. I love my 3rd gen Camaro t-tops but the targa is better

Nice! Yeah I love T-Tops too, but having no bar overhead just makes that much more of a difference. Thanks for watching man!

Nice vette Elliott! It’s nice to finally see it driving. I been kinda casually looking for a 89’ c4 don’t know why 89’ but that’s what I been looking for. Oh I think it was the first year you could get a 6speed manual. And I’m in cape Girardeau Missouri by the way.

Ayy, 1992! Mine's a 92, one day I hope I can get it as clean as yours. Mines got a rough idle and paint needs a refresh, but hey she's a daily and I love that car. Got 104k on it right now.

Living in NZ, these things are super rare though still pretty affordable if you can find one. My neighbor has one in RHD, license plate is "DRFLGD" - he owns a panel shop, his daily driver is a X5M. So yeah, typical Corvette driver even in NZ.

my c4 rear hatch actually goes all the way up by itself as soon as its popped... however the buttons dont work so i gotta yank it open. I must say that the lt1 sounds excellent with a custom exhaust

I need to replace the struts on my hatch for sure!
