Idea: you should add another stat to the dougscore - dougs per dollar (overall dougscore divided by price). That would be a great metric for putting the cars in context. The Lincoln isn't going to get the same score as a Rolls, but probably beats it on a per dollar standpoint. It would be interesting to see what would be at the top and bottom of such a list.

You forgot to mention that with the Black Label, you get their complimentary care service for 4 years. Basically, whereas every other car you have to bring the car into the dealership for service, Lincoln Black Label service will get staff to pick up your car from your home, and drop off a loaner car. They'll take your car to the dealer in for service and detail/car wash the vehicle before bringing it back in.

Luxury minivans are even cooler. I agree. In the early days the Lincoln was a high-end luxury automobile but by the 1980's this changed drastically when American cars were shrunk down to nothing with embarrassingly small motors. The Thunderbird was yet another prime example of this. In the early 70's my family had a 68 T-bird and they were very large, very heavy luxury cars with a 429 ci V8. In the 80's the T-bird was reduced to a boxy 4 cylinder POS and 14" wheels with only four lugs, which were typically only used in compact car designs.

I agree. If memory serves in 2017 2.1 million sedans were sold in the US. Why Ford would be so stupid as to completely walk away from a segment that still has millions upon millions of sales for the taking is beyond me. Especially when they have always been a solid contender. My 07 Focus went 10 yrs and 231k miles with no major issues and was still running great when I sold it. Now Ford is forcing me to change companies the next time I buy a car even though I wanted to be loyal to them. As someone who drove one of these every day for 8-12 hours (as opposed to out and back on the dealer's driveway...), here's an addendum to what Doug said. Under all the fancy stuff, it's a Ford Fusion. The good: The AWD system is excellent and with the standard tires the car is well planted in bad weather, and has a surprising amount of grip in the dry, too. The base V6 should be plenty for almost everyone, and the brakes are face-pulling strong. The button shifter looks cool, but more importantly, it's fast and easy to use, which is great for when you're a working driver. Everyone loves the comfort of the rear seats. The standard audio system sounds nice and Sync for the most part works flawlessly. The driver's seat is very comfortable. Doug mocks the drive select system, but it's actually nice, because you can set "D" to have eco throttle response and soft suspension for customer comfort, but sport (firmer) steering. The rear running light bar looks like absolute sex, the unlock/lock effect on the running lights is really slickly done, and I think in general it's easily the most attractive car Ford has made in close to four decades; it lacks the...awkwardness...that so many Ford cars have, and I think in 10 years this car will probably still look good, whereas most ten year old fords are extremely dated. The bad: the driver's area is...cramped, and I'm a pretty small person. The wood is overly glossy and the glossy clearcoat looks cheap as it wears a bit, and doug is right - they get really, really close to getting this all right, but the back panel controls in particular don't age well. The trunk isn't big; it's small compared to the 7-series, though not as small as the S90 (these are the three popular cars for fleet limos in our area.) The fancy door handles break in livery service, as does the trunk closing mechanism. Nobody knows how to get out of the cars (which is a plus in our circles, as it stops clients from opening their doors into traffic and such.) The base V6 drinks gas like crazy compared to much more fuel-efficient cars like the S90 (a car that makes the interior of the Continental look like a joke.) There are, however, two big flaws: one is professional driver safety. Any time the doors are unlocked, even if someone is inside, the door buttons light up red. If anyone wants to rob you - limo drivers often do have a fair bit of cash on them - they have a nice handy indicator as to whether they doors are unlocked or not. The second biggest flaw is that the transmission in this car is HORRID. Customers like a smooth ride, right? Well, many times you'll be crawling in traffic on the highway and the transmission slam-shifts from 1st to 2nd with a big, violent lurch. Every single car I drove in the fleet did it.

As a 34 year old Millennial I'm supposed to like crossovers and SUV's. But I don't. When it comes to cars I was born in the wrong era. I love big American luxury sedans. The big Cadillacs and Lincolns of the 60's and 70's are my favorite cars. The Cadillac CT6 and Lincoln Continental are my current dream cars. And I just bought and currently drive a 2015 MKZ. The point of this post is that I hate it when car companies stereotype all car buyers as being obsessed with SUV's when we are not.

"Styling is fine but a bit bland." so it gets a 6? imo you dont properly utilize 1-4 on your scale for styling. i mean, does this sedan look just as good as the Ferrari 348? cause they both get 6. You should set it up so that anything that is remotely ugly just gets a 1. bland/generic/average gets a 2-3, and then there is plenty of room between 4-10 to distinguish beautiful cars from each other. That is more or less how you do the acceleration category, everything slower than 5.5 seconds (or whatever your cutoff is) gets a 1, then there's plenty of room between 2-10 for the fast cars to distinguish themselves.

Keye T town car was also rwd and built like a tank but their main duties ended up being relegated to New York City taxi cabs (which minus fuel economy it did this well) just like its panther platform cousin the crown Victoria and the lesser used gran marquis. If you’ve ridden in a nyc taxi cab in the late 90’s or 2000-2012 it was likely one of these 3.

Jim S. Why are you trying so hard to offend me? What have i done to you?
@jgripen9696 жыл бұрын
Jim S. Absolutely not. The US has achieved a lot especially considering how young the country is. And hadn't you invaded normandy we'd all speak Russian and have Stalin's face in our living room, so i'm very grateful for that. And just for the record about the whole GDP thing. You have to understand that Sweden has a population of almost 10M (biggest of the Scandinavian countries), and Texas has a population of 28M. Texas has almost 3 times the people.
@todddotson64306 жыл бұрын
@@jgripen969 While I have no beef in this conversation. Population doesn't really mean a lot any more for the GDP. Texas' GDP is higher than Russia's. Russia's population is 143 million.

That interior is to die for. I think its one of the best I've ever seen. Being in the UK, I hope we do a good trade deal with the US after we leave the EU beurocratic nightmare. Lower tariffs on imported cars from outside the EU will mean we can get interesting cars like this and may get Genisis / Kia K9's etc too. We are so bored of Audis and BMW's. They are all the same and are massively overpriced to repair when they break.... which is ALL THE TIME.

Brexit is part of extreme conservative protectionism and is a regrettably bad decision that will drive Britain into isolation and hurts it's people. It is very similar to Trump's America first plan. Neither are turning out well and it is why it's important to stay United and not sucumb to strongman fearmongering toward globalism.

These cars, especially the top-end Black Label, will be the most banging value in 4-6 years when these cars are forgotten about and sell for a fraction of the MSRP.

MSRP for top spec car is about $75-77K. Used car prices for 2017's is already $51-52K. In 6 years this car will sell for $20K give or take a few thousand. The reason this car will depreciate quickly is because the average consumer is buying SUV's instead of sedans. Also, the Lincoln brand has lost most of it's cachet over the past 20 years. Finally, all high-end sedans - from all makes - tend to depreciate faster than sports cars or SUV's/trucks. It doesn't help that Lincoln will stop selling this car after 2019/20. That's only 3 or 4 model years of the new Continental.

I have a 20 Continental Reserve AWD with the 2.7 V6 335hp. There are so many features and quirks you forgot to mention. Such as, how do you open the driver door if the battery is dead? Or, that the seat controls on the door are the same as the seat control on the dash. There’s a hidden cd player. How the car welcomes you with its lighting system when you approach the car. One aftermarket feature I added to mine, the front grille emblem lights up just like the newer Lincoln suvs.
