Maybe it is overpriced, but either way you somehow didn’t manage to pronounce Öhlins right. Good try though! Just go to Google Translate, type ”Ö” and play the sound and you’re good :)

It's overpriced in canada/usa, but in the Netherlands its ~80k with options and a glc63s is ~140k with options. So here it makes kind of sense to buy.

TheStraightPipes definitely a touch expensive, but then again I kinda get it. With that said I don’t like the way the AWD system works. I’m sure it is to help save on weight etc but still... really don’t like that it’s not real full-time AWD.

Love your reviews!! However, as a Swede, I always get quite annoyed when you review Volvos. Even though I agree with you that the Sensus Infotainment can be sluggish and not especially user-friendly in some ways. The time you says it takes to start-up seems a bit unfair without mentioning the fact that most of the settings are configured to your own personal key. Within the driver profiles things like whether you'd like heated seats and steering wheel turned on (under 10 degrees celsius) automatically, different Spotify accounts to the built-in Spotify app, different favourites for the radio app, personalized home screen layouts (all of the three main menu's), the temperature and climate control, themes, seat settings, and so on are saved automatically to the key. Here are some other features that I find interesting that may already know but that I've never heard you mention. (Not sure if they only are available in Sweden/Europe). 1. You never have you turn off a Volvo, take off your seatbelt and open the door and it turns off. 2. There's a sign that says slippery in the instrument cluster when another Volvo recently has lost traction in that area. 3. They show not only the current speed limit but also the upcoming speed limit. 4. You get a visual and noise warning when you approach a speed camera. 5. The speed limiter (click to the left on the cruise control keypad on the steering wheel) adjusts itself to the current speed limit. 6. The Volvo on call features: preheating, Remote engine start-up, Sending destinations to the car and so on. 7. Dimmable interior lights (hold the button). 8. The e-brake is 100% automatic. Engages when you turn off the car and disengages when you put the car in D/R and press the gas pedal. 9. Text messages from your phone are shown directly in the instrument cluster, and you can choose to answer it directly using your voice (actually works). 10. A small detail Yuri might like. If the music is really loud before answering a phone call, the car slowly increases the volume to what it was before the incoming call. 11. By connecting a USB, you can watch movies in the infotainment when the car is parked (super nice to put some top gear on while waiting for someone) 12. When connecting a trailer, the car will ask you in the instrument cluster if you would like to check the trailer's light. By clicking yes, the car starts a sequence testing all the lights by the time you have stepped out of the car and walked to behind the trailer. Ps. google translate pronounces öhlins almost entirely correct. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the insight. Very informative. Personally, i feel most people dont understand that while Volvo wanna give you that option from the german rivals, volvo still remains swede and is different and they're not trying to be like the germans. Their tech approach and philosophy is also different and mainly focuses on practicality, comfort and safety. Like they say, volvos aren't cars to look down on others, but to drive. Ao yeah I also dont like this review

I currently drive the Volvo XC60 T8 Inscription . In my opinion the pricing in North America is too much. But here in Finland the tax for T8 is so low that it’s almost cheaper to buy the most expensive line-up. For example you pay for the T6 over 20k in taxes vs only 2k for T8. Because the car is plug-in hybrid you can get very low consumption if you charge it every night. During summer I managed 3,5l /100km with city and countryroads. I think that number is excellent for the size and the horsepower. I just don’t think the polestar model is worth the extra money because it’s just a r-design with small quirks.

I live in the US and I bought the xc60 inscription T8 version, fully loaded (car seat, BW speakers, air suspension). I picked up the car from Sweden via Volvo' OSD program so Volvo covered airfare for two from the US to Sweden and a bunch of other costs, in additional to their 20% discount of the MSRP. So I got this car for 73k our of door (including all the fees, could have been 84k if I picked up in the states), which comes with a HOV sticker, and almost 8000 dollars rebate/tax credit. I used to spend 150 bucks on gas monthly now I only spend 30. GLC has hybrid but it looks ugly as hell IMO. If one cares abt the environment, wanna save some money/time on commute, and don't wanna drive BBA like the others, look no further, Volvo is the car for you.

A little insider Volvo sales tip: You are right, all T8 models are overpriced (dealers know this because of how long it takes to get rid of the darn things, even though they are truly amazing vehicles), BUT if u go in armed with this information, knowing that dealers are dying to get rid of them and only get them because Volvo requires dealers to have them available in inventory, and if u go at the end of the month, and even better at the end of the year, after government incentives, I've sold my share of T8's at the same or nearly the price of a equally equiped T6! Add to this their lifetime parts and labor warranty on all 2019 and newer models and you've got yourself a hell of a value in a truly exceptional vehicle! (If you have to replace anything after the factory warranty is over, and even that is pretty good for a luxury brand: 4yrs/50k miles, then you only have to replace it once, at a Volvo dealer off course, and if that part ever fails again, Volvo will replace it and install it with OEM parts at no cost!) Eat that BMW and Mercedes! So buying and keeping a new Volvo can be quite a value most people miss, apart from having a great vehicle that is not as common as everything else!

The thing about the price is that here in Sweden they introduced a taxing system called bonus malus, which meant that hybrids and fully electric cars got a lowered tax than earlier, while cars driven on fossil fuels got a raised tax. This combined with our super high gas prices means that it can be cheaper to own a plug-in hybrid as long as you live close enough to your workplace. If you can get to work, then charge, and get home purely on electricity you basically drive for free, and if you need to travel longer distances or tow you still have the gas engine.

I have the 2018 XC60 T8 R-Design. After two years of ownership, I can honestly say that I am glad that I leased instead of buying it. I like the car a lot for its great quality, and interior refinement, but I think Volvo still has a ways to go in terms of getting the Gas engine and Electric rear motor to work in harmony. The power delivery is so odd and un-natural same with the breaks. When my lease is up in 2021, I will be looking for a full electric car as my daily driver.

This is actually squarely aimed at the SQ5, quoted from Volvo. It’s pretty much fully loaded, the only option being the rims. A fully loaded SQ5 actually costs a little bit more, this is quicker, and electric so it’s kind of a win win. Especially for exclusivity. And considering it’s aimed at the SQ5, it’s also more in line and comparable with a X3M40 and GLC43. Definitely not full blown X3M or GLC63!

Guy... So many hybrid cars nowadays claim that they have this much horsepower, over 400 combined blablabla.. My friend had a Volvo S90 T8 and was really disappointed by the power output. He sold it after 6 months and got a new X5. He was sceptical about the Panamera 4E hybrid I was gonna get. BUT DAMN Porsche is probably the only brand out there using hybrid tech to mainly boost power rather than just for fuel efficiency. When Porsche claims the Panamera 4E has 462HP combined it actually IS 462HP fast. Don't get me wrong guys. Im fully ok with Toyota and Lexus being fuel efficient with their hybrid tech since that was the initial goal when it was launched many many years ago. However Volvo has never been sporty. They just dont have the skills and tech to rival the Germans. And now you wanna market your hybrid techs as 'sporty' and charge me a Mercedes Price? Come on...... Now even if this was a Polstar car Id pay you that price since its still Volvo platform, shared components shared engines and drivetrain....

In Norway we have tax reductions on all-electric and hybrid cars. If you want the new X5 45e this is the cheapest BMW X5 you can buy. It´s about US $20.000 cheaper than a diesel/ petrol.

Worked at a carwash and putting this car in neutral and turning off the car is a pain in the ass because it goes straight to park. Takes a bit to make it stay in neutral while it's off.

I have to comment about the gear selector and the paddle shifts. There is no manual mode anymore, so you can't move the gear selector over to the left and just control the gears via the paddles. The paddles still exist which is good, but then they time out after 6 seconds and revert back to auto. Also, in some T8 R Design models, the individual drive mode has gone, which means you can't set the car up to suit your driving style anymore. HP and Tq is good, but give the driver back some of the options that have been taken away.

Only Volvo has stated that no one is going to die in their cars. All other car manufacturers who say that their cars are safe do not dare say so. Volvo has balls. To get out of a crashed car and still survive. That's worth all the money in the world.

It has been announced here in Sweden that there Will be a cheaper hybrid comming to the xc40, Im sure Volvo will do the same with the rest of the line-up so just wait for that instead IF you really want green plates and a Volvo SUV. I totally agree with you guys, I would never touch this vehicle because of how slow it is and how it is priced. It is not like the old polestar volvos where you could get a sweet straight 6 in a tiny V60 which actually made sense.

Owner of a 2019 XC60 T8 R-Design here, who paid for a price tag actually a tick even heftier than the US pricing of $71,000 for the 2020 Polestar reviewed here. I gotta say, Jacob's comparison of this Polestar to the GLC 63 (with or w/o S) and the Stelvio Quad doesn't really stand upon further scrutiny: 1) The $71K cost for the XC60 Polestar is fully-loaded and you don't have to pay a cent more to obtain extra options; 2) Despite numerous mentions of a green plate, Jacob failed to mention at all the federal/state incentives for this PHEV model; although it comes as form of tax rebate rather than outright sales price reduction, it is still real dollar decrease in price a consumer ends up paying; 3) A bare-boned Alfa Quad Stelvio retails for just a hairline under US$80k, thus in spite of its very limited option list, all Stelvio Quads retail for at least US$83k on Cargurus or dealerships; A 2020 GLC 63, meanwhile, starts at US$73K, but that's without any modern-day functionality - a good majority of cars on sale for this model has a sticker price of over US$83k as well (this upper end for 63 is way higher than the Alfa, in line with expectation of Merc's way more expansive options range). To sum it all, the effective price difference between the Polestar and the other two can easily and materially reach and exceed US$15K. Consequently, pricing-wise a much more apt comparison should be amongst the Polestar, the X3 M40i, the SQ5 and the GLC43 SUV or coupe. But kudos for mentioning for the first time in reviewing all these T8 Volvos that, rather than putting the foot down all the way as you do for almost every car on the market, it's much more responsive and smooth to just gradually step in to the end. That torque it generates still gives me goosebumps every time I need to pass. One of my most highly prized "preys" was an Velar SVAutobiography. Great video nevertheless as always!

Great points re actual cost. So a year on how happy are you with XC60 T8 R ? would you now get the 2020 XC60 T8R or the 2020 XC60 Polestar ? (and iif you have time any time on wheel size ? 21/22's look great but how is the ride ? )
@jiaxinxu6845

@@10007will Very happy despite not perfectly happy. The big turning radius due to a FWD-leaning power delivery system led to some significant getting used to for parking situations in the early days, and the pilot assist system suffered a couple malfunctions that needed fixes back at the shop about 6 months in. As an environmentally conscious buyer, it's quite a bit of pressure trying to minimize gas usage during winter days as well - as that 19 mile range is much reduced on cold, windy days as you expect. I managed to average a 40 mpg overall to this date. As for choosing between the specs, I would say a choice between a R-Design and a Polestar is closer than people might think, mostly due to the choice of a much more easily managed air suspension. And to a smaller extent, you may notice that the paint range is wider for the RD than the Polestar (which mattered to me because I really liked the bursting blue paint). But at the end of the day, I think I will still choose the Polestar as I wouldn't mind the hassle of having to open hood and tweak that Ohlins knob from time to time. With that being said, I'd say a harder choice would be between the Polestar spec and the Inscription spec. The latter gives you a possibility of Volvo's nicest interior color setup IMHO (Blonde perforated nappa + Lime deco inlays) plus front seat massage AND ventilated seats, which you don't get in either the RD or Polestar. The two downsides of Incriptions are that, the paint color list is narrower, and the default wheels are quite a bit blander than the RD and Polestar. The The biggest drawback of the Inscription is that with every option chosen, the price tag can get much higher than the top-spec RD and obviously Polestar as well., particularly if you upgrade to the very expensive, rough-riding but good-looking 22's. To your last question, I opted for the 21's for "just" $1k more. Gotta say Volvo hasn't been known for the plushest ride for a long time, whether you put on the air springs or not. The chassis is tuned to be quite stiff, particularly with RD. If you and your family really want a driving experience that's closest to what the likes of Lexus can offer as possible, then you might wanna stick to the 19's. I can imagine the 22's to be quite brutal, even if you put them on the softer Inscription model.
