What's with all the people riding around on Honda Groms? Are they really that cool of a motorcycle? Today I'm bringing you a ride and review of the 2017 Honda Grom 125 Street Legal Motorcycle. I've had lots of people ask me if the Honda Grom is a good beginner bike, if it's powerful, if it's good for wheelies, and more. I'll try to answer those questions while also demonstrating to you why I believe the Honda Grom is one of the best beginner motorcycles and great for learning wheelies. Enjoy!

don't wheelie the grom without installing a modded oil pump first. Oil pump sits at the engine bottom front. Wheelie drains all the oil to the rear and the engine starves for oil. That's why so many groms start to crap out after a few thousand miles. Never buy a used grom.

Hey bro, if you're near a large village or city... see if you can rent/lease a few bikes for the base. My roommate was deployed 2 tours and both times they convinced their CO to let them use their own money to rent a few bikes off the locals, it's actually where he learned to ride. When he got back he got a 650 and rode for years until a friend of his died on a bike and he sold it... :/ Apparently they got 3 dirt bikes on their first tour, and a honda supercub and a dirt bike on his second. Typically the locals want to make a good impression and are willing to take your money. Try to get a few guys together, come to a financial agreement and bring it to an officer and see if you can get a bike or two to rip around the base. If you're allowed in town, just ask around if anyone is willing to rent out a bike.. just try to be respectful and not trash it, or offer to have cheap parts shipped over like my roommate did. He traded air/oil filters, chains... cheap stuff here in the states, and cash for usage. They gave the bikes back better than they got them and left on good terms. Try to do the same. Anyway... Good luck and thanks for your service! Stay safe!

I've been riding for years and currently have a Yamaha raider, but I've always wanted to learn wheelies and this video convinced me to get a grom for that. I think the Grom is a great beginner bike, however I think the 1 thing people fail to mention is that you shouldn't get a Grom as your first bike if only reason is because you're scared to get anything bigger. Because you'll be uncomfortable at first and want to learn on something small, but a lot of people will grow out of them quickly. (Like I said, unless they are buying them for other reasons).
@JonsMotoGarage
@JonsMotoGarage 5 жыл бұрын
That's a very great point! That's kind of what I was trying to get at. I think they're arguably one of the easiest bikes to actually learn on. However, not necessarily the best all around beginner bike due to the limitations. A great way to learn the fundamentals for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@cnnw3929

I don't consider the Grom as being a beginner's motorcycle. It is better suited as a second vehicle for someone who already has a lot of experience with owning and riding motorcycles in the past. The Grom is best for experienced riders who want to save on energy and maintenance costs on their primary vehicles.

Get a Z400. It comes stock ABS 400cc most likely you can flat foot it. Freeway safe stop speed at 110mph. The grom is good for wheelies and group rides. You will most likely be board if you dont have friends to ride with or plan to do stunts.

Jon's Moto Garage I learned how to ride in my teen years on quads and dirt bikes at a friend’s summer house and then a buddy and I bought a Gixxer 750 when we were in the Navy( no gear and still don’t know how we survived those 3 years). Wanted to get back into motorcycles so after a year of research decided on the 390 Duke. Happy with the price, insurance rates and ABS/TFT display/style that comes with it. It’s totally different than what everyone else has and I get compliments on it constantly. Every day I get asked about it at stoplights and other stops along my travels.

I started on a 92 cbr 600 back in 2005 and later on got a 92 ZX7R Ninja 10 years ago that I've put about 30k miles on, then Aug last year i bought my 2019 Grom brand new and barely rode my Ninja since then. My buddy bought a 2005 Fatboy Harley and only had his permit 5 months ago, so he would ask me quite a bit for a month and a half to go riding with him and i ended up putting 2k miles on my Ninja during that time until he got his endorsement. But i still liked riding my Grom more because its more fun per mile than my big bike which id unfortunately down right now with a bad crank bearing 2 months ago and will get rebuilt in the next year. But not really missing it much other than for rides that are on the longer side

They look pretty cool. I am currently on a Triumph Speed Triple. This would be an absolute shock to my system!! My wife on the other hand has never ridden. Tossing the idea of selling/trading my Speedy for 2 Groms. 9 hp makes my guts tighten. We just bought a camper a couple months ago. The idea is the ability to toss both in the back of our truck and tool around where we go camping or buzz around town. We also have tons of UTV trails around us. We are in the Midwest. Do you think I would have tremendous buyer’s remorse? Again, it’s to get my wife riding and another thing for us to do together. I ride solo now and don’t really like it. I like riding with someone. Great video!! Very helpful 🤘🏻

I think the Honda Varadero xl125 is the best all round beginer bike unless you are short and dont have much muscle. Its a big bike and looks more like a 600cc. With its v twin engine. Its not a light bike but It suits the taller rider thats for sure. And the engines if serviced right will go past the 60k mark for sure. They are comfortable and will do the longer journeys without much fuss.

The Grom doesn't have an oil return so doing long wheelies is very bad for your motor. Your initially running your motor without oil when you wheelie.

Theres a cheap mod to address, but I know many a grom engine has been destroyed due to the wheelies.

Hey you should get yourself a 190cc to bolt in the grom. And then review the new power level and how much more fun it is.

Another downside is, the ABS is ONLY on the red Grom. So if you want a white, baby blue, green, or orange, tough shit, no ABS for you. ( red also has no ABS options )

for anyone thinking to get a beginner bike dont listen to this guy any bike can be a begginer bike just learn the power behind it that's all as a matter of fact i would highly recommend never to start on a grom because of the ergonamics of it. you wanna start learning on a regular size bike maybe a 300 or 400 cc. but its all up to you dont let anyone intimidate you, my first bike was a yzf r6 yamaha. They told me it would be too powerful for a begginers bike, boy were they wrong im glad i got it because as you get expierence youre gonna wanna go faster. Just know what you have, be careful and ride safe.
