They worked REALLY HARD on this, and got a masterpiece out of it but Beamng isnt just alive because of the devs, but also because the comunity works quite hard on mods, challenges, and other stuff that keeps the game as alive as ever. I think the advantage of BeamNG is that it has the most advanced crash physics out of any game, so pretty much every racing game fan will most likely enjoy it just for that. Which in turn gives the devs a lot of time and budget to make the driving physics more and more realistic as time goes on. Where as if a purely sim racing game launched with Beam's more earlier driving physics it would not survive. So i'm really excited for the future of this game.

@ghoulsarefree
@ghoulsarefree 3 жыл бұрын
@@ariton2990 It's definitely true that crashing is a part of driving and that increased fidelity in the damage model should translate to better simulation overall. And I don't see any way it could hurt. However, the point about "racing" is that when you're actually playing the game (against other players or time attack), a crash is pretty much the end of any race. Getting the damage effects right on a severe crash ends up not mattering insofar as racing is concerned. If the car drives super realistically after losing 2 wheels, that's a novelty, but racing after losing 2 wheels isn't worth the time (or realistic, for that matter). That's why the finer points of the damage model, like temperature and wear, are what sims typically put more effort into -- because you can actually race through those.

This game totally excels in that, exactly because of what you mentioned, the cars feel like actual cars. I'd love to see something of the sort!

The "feels more like a real car" aspect is why I like Wreckfest too. Wreckfest is still WAY more forgiving on damage as it almost feels GTA V online-ish in how the extreme damage won't stop the car from functioning (like whole front of car smashed to the size of a mailbox). But at least you have to think that any ONE crash could actually kill your car if a wheel gets ripped off. I really need to spend some time understanding the BeamNG game modes and mods. I never have anything Jimmy plays, nor do I understand where it is.

Why? :)
@amandasantini6265
@amandasantini6265 3 жыл бұрын
@@meneeringenieur1866 Because it's the only one that simulates almost everything there is to simulate: - Brake fade and failure; - Clutch disk heating, slipping and failure; - Drivetrain mechanics and failure; - Engine degradation and failure; - Shattered windows; - Detached doors; - Fuel tank leaks/ruptures/explosions; - A proper radiator simulation And many more. Now grab your run of the mill simulator. Let's say Assetto Corsa. - No engine temperature simulation; - No brake temperature simulation (let alone a brake fade simulation); - Stefano insisted that gyroscopic effects aren't important to vehicle simulations, since they weren't covered in his classic vehicle dynamics books, which is why AC lacks such effects that clearly effect vehicle behavior; - The suspension simulation is flawed, which is why Stefano had to do a global suspension softening of about 25%, otherwise their F1 cars (stiff) would explode 100m into the air; - No chassis simulation/deformation; - The tires are not separate independently simulated objects (they're not even separate objects physically speaking); - The aero simulation on AC is so poor that it completely stops working if you're in a 40-45 degree bank; - And many more flaws that affect quite a bit of so-called "simulators" out there. The only simulator that comes close to BeamNG, despite being a rigid-body simulator, is rFactor 2.

With the new update would you ever consider doing a series where viewers upload their automation cars for you to drive in beam up a hill climb? Failrace already has done a series like this. Would think it'd be a cool way to interact with viewers and would allow a good mix of serious/silly cars to do the hill climb

Can't agree more Jimmy. The improvements they've made in the last 4-5 months on the tyre behaviour and physics propel it into a different league. It used to be a crash simulator with weird, slippy handling. Now it's a car simulator that happens to be an excellent crash simulator too.

For some reason this reminded me of one mod map called "American Road", it has a challenge on it called the "impossible tour", it's a very long 80km time trial around one of the larger maps made for the game, which must be done without resetting. Any other game it'd probably be boring.
