Thank you Patrick. That’s right, start small, work the movements and bring it up to speed at home before you go try to rifle golf balls on the range. Thanks for the nice comment. Much appreciated.

Good tips! I've struggled a bit in this area for exactly the reasons you mentioned - trying to fully swing through. That's led to me trying hold off releasing the club or hitting pulls out left. This was especially a problem with my driver. I've gotten it sorted out but the swing feeling is like I'm hitting the golf ball out to right field. Getting much better contact by not trying to force my body through the swing.

Although it might seem like a lot at first, I have followed the steps in a few of the other drills Chris provides and I have found they compound on top of each reinforcing key positions and sequencing of the swing no matter what you are working on. After the weight transfer, power from the ground and lag video drills ....and most importantly doing the hundreds of reps Chris advises...... this drill was really easy to follow along. Thanks Chris, great stuff.

Chris - Terrific video. I limit the golf voices/videos to a select few (less than 5) instructors. You just jumped into that small list. I often seek and inquire some details on the sequence of how my body needs to move and I've yet to come across anyone who can break it down simply, until now. I try to keep things simple but still find frustration. I'm working on these moves daily and you're right, that side oblique is speaking to me. I'm considering jumping into your membership but for now I'd like to sample some more of your YT content. Thank you sir! 🤟

Our members LOVE this part of the process as it’s very much needed. If you don’t like the plan or you have any doubts, I’ll refund everything back to you. I dont want to be misleading or create an environment like so many do, and tell you it’s going to be easy to fix. We need to look at the entire picture and layout your plan and then dial in the plan as you move forward. Let me know if you have any questions at all and take your time and absorb as much as you can. I’ll be here when you’re ready:)

Thank you so much for the kind words. Remember, start small and stay disciplined. Then as you get connected to the movements, challenge yourself to add a little more to the mix and when you start hitting balls, do not go into kamikaze mode and try to bash it. Allow speed to come back to the swing gradually. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Started doing this randomly during my golf match today, and suddenly hit 10-20 yards longer with my wedges.. my left back startef hurting now tho, it feels a little like my spine is doing some not so okay movements.. but at least i finally felt like my legs and core managed to create power together, rather than individually.. will explore this more!
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
This move should actually keep stress off the spine. Make sure you’re not deadlocking your body back at impact when the arms work past the body. Allow the body to follow the arms into finish as the release finishes.
@markdormer79595 ай бұрын
Does early turn of the body cause pulls and unintended hooks then? (as the club is too far behind and gets rotated to closed before impact) Or am I not understsnding this? Would this delayed (as it would feel) rotation allow the club to tension squarer for longer through impact beir'turning over'?
@robertbrandywine5 ай бұрын
Very enlightening! But at 6:04, you say "keep the lead shoulder down", however, it is obviously coming up. Do you mean don't *tilt* the shoulders so that the lead shoulder doesn't go even further up, or maybe don't tilt the entire spine by leaning it away from the target?
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
The lead shoulder has to be slightly higher than the trail shoulder at impact. We just want you to try and keep it down as much as possible as a lot of students get too much secondary spine tile (shoulders leaning way back) at or before impact.
@robertbrandywine5 ай бұрын
@@MyGolfDNA So you *are* saying that if you tilt the entire spine away from the target that that results in a high shoulder you don't want.
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
If you’re going for a square shoulders at impact position, then yes, try to keep as much spine tilt away from the target out of the mix as much as possible. Keeping the head behind the ball when the hips shift to the lead side and clear will produce some natural tilt at impact even if you try to keep the lead shoulder down.

Excellent video. I noticed that you seem to cock your wrist early. What are your thoughts on extension on the Takeaway? I was taught that I sent my hands more at the top of my swing more of a one piece Takeaway.
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
Thank you 🙏. You need to support the club at some point in the takeaway. I’m actually working to maintain a little more extension early on to keep the face from getting shut caused from the trail wrist hinging to much. I want my students to minimally support the club during the backswing. The new video coming out later this week will discuss this. If It doesn’t help, let me know and I’ll further discuss the best practices.

Hi Chris- I love yur videos and find them very helpful. There is one point I get confused on and that is I was always taught to turn the shoulders 90 degrees or more in the backswing. Here turning the shoulders 45 degrees in the backswing drill works just fine in hitting the ball consistently. Should I not play golf like this? From there keeping the chest back I shift 80% of my weight onto the lead foot and after that square my shoulders and open my hips 45 degrees to target line as I come into impact. Is this drill not also a recipe for consistent contact and why should I not play like that?
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind worlds and you can play golf from 9-3 swings for sure. Generally speaking, people will hit the ball just as far as they normally in full swing because the quality of the sequence and contact is so much better than in full swing. It takes discipline to take a bunch out of it and use it on the golf course. I would suggest you use this drill as a building block, staying committed to perfect practice and then gradually add more width and rotation back to the mix. If you find the quality starts to deteriorate, then back it down again and keep challenging yourself periodically. Ideally, we want to get to a full turn in the future to help keep the speed up but not at the sacrifice of hard work that leads to better ball striking. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any further questions.
@pohoresky6 ай бұрын
@@MyGolfDNA Your advice is sound. My problem stemmed from making that 90 degree shoulder turn and losing my upper body stability during the pivot back. Much easier to retain that needed stability (less head lateral movement off the ball) with a smaller pivot in the backswing (shoulders turn 45 degrees and a bit) and then shift and turn in the downswing. Makes it so much easier to land in front of the ball with irons and hybrids and to more consistently hit my woods and driver. To each his own I guess. I am over 80 now and do not have the flexibility I once had. Sometimes following good advice (ninety degree shoulder turn) can be too much of a good thing for any one individual.
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
Totally agree! I always want to take a look at how much rotation is going to be optimal for a student. I have plenty of older students where 60-80 degrees is there limit. The hard part is making sure we balance the swing shape with enough depth and then make sure we are producing as much leverage through lag as we can without it putting the swing into a whole bunch of timing! If you’re seeing good results with the shorter turn then go with it. Most people will end up adding small amount more back at subconscious level over the course of practice.

As a young person I never had a good throwing arm. Accurate but not high velocity. Never understood why until now, late in life. There was a kid in my high school who didn’t play baseball but when asked could absolutely rip a throw like a laser beam. It’s possible to acquire velocity with practice, as your drills demonstrate.
@daviddonofrio32296 ай бұрын
So when do you use the trail hand?
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
Right arm should start out as being a “passive” conduit that will transfer energy from the body as the right arms extends and the wrists let the club release. You can couple that back with the throw zone drill that just published about 6 weeks ago, once you get the hang of it for a little more thrust in speed.

Great video, but when I slide hips forward and not too far forward, ball goes 45deg right (right handed player).
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
Keep the tension levels down in the hands and arms to let the club release otherwise you’ll be yelling “fore right”. If tou still struggle with the tension levels down, then you may want to work on some release drills first.
@hernanserrano34645 ай бұрын
Chris, did you mean keep the “trail” shoulder down?
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
No, meant to do your best to keep the lead shoulder down as much as possible. It will work up and be higher than the trail shoulder at impact. It has to if you keep the head behind the ball. Most people struggle with creating too much secondary spine tilt before contact to try and help the ball in the air with their body. So, I teach people to try and feel like it stays down as much as possible. Hope that helps.

you keep mentioning lead shoulder.. for a right-handed swing are you talking about right or left shoulder?
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
Lead shoulder = shoulder closest to the target at address. Right handed golfer is the left shoulder. It’s just a way for instructors to communicate information to right and left handed golfers. Hope that helps.
@cornalien84356 ай бұрын
Yeah he says keep the lead shoulder down at 6:03 as he’s pulling it up. A bit confusing!
@MyGolfDNA6 ай бұрын
The shoulders and spine will be tilted away from the target at impact. The point is to try and keep it down and allow the hips (along with the head staying quiet) to pull the upper body into the correct position. We need subtle amounts of secondary spine tilt to help shallow the swing out. I see a lot of players that create too much of tilt way too early in the downward half. Hope that helps clear up any confusion.
@PurpleHaze13355 ай бұрын
Not sure, when you make the turn with the club against the chest it appears that the trailing shoulder is more down than what I would call the lead shoulder on a right handed golfer. I think this is what the other people on this thread is seeing also

Might want to edit your video. In step one you say to keep your lead shoulder down but you have dropped your trail shoulder down. Your hips are sometimes squared and sometimes rotated 45 degrees. No point listening further.
@MyGolfDNA5 ай бұрын
The lead shoulder has to come up. I want you to try and keep the lead shoulder as Low as possible. You have primary tilt to the shoulders and spine at address and you’ll have an increase in this tilt at impact called secondary spine tilt. I want students to fight off as much of the tilt as they can at first when using the hips to pull the shoulders into position.
