@Standout Punch I met some of the people at Classic Jaguar/Team CJ in Austin , TX (check out their website). They told me that the problem with Jags wasn't the engineering or the quality. All of their problems were from a workforce that just didn't care. Nothing was torqued to spec. They couldn't be fired and never did anything other than the bare minimum...when they were sober. An E-Type when new was constantly broken and wore out quickly. Parts would just fall off. But if restored by someone competent using all factory parts the same care world run forever.

Years ago I had 2 new MBs. Very unreliable, of course. Yes, they were made in Germany. Yes, they were maintained by the book. Both arrived with factory defects. Anyhow, it was a GREAT certified MB master tech.who said to me, "Their body work is very good but mechanically they're nothing special at all." He also gave me the best car advice I ever got: "When you can't write off the cars anymore, get a Lexus." I did and it's STILL my daily driver.

I bought myself a 2016 metallic gray Corolla LE eco in 2016 brand new with 5 miles on the odometer on purchase day and I love it as it now has 100,000 miles completely trouble free, well almost trouble free if it wasn't for having to change the oil and fill the tank up with gas. It still runs and looks exactly the same today as the day I drove it off the lot. It's now time for that 100,000 mile tune up!!! We also have a 2018 Toyota Rav4 XSE and I much prefer to drive my Corolla any day as I think the Rav4 is more of a boring car to drive. Congrats on your purchase as you won't be sorry.

We’re already seeing some channels on KZbin reviewing Broncos that Ford managed to send their way to review. If Ford was so confident in their Broncos to send one over to Scotty, I’d put a deposit on one in a heartbeat. But since we haven’t seen that, I’m pretty sure there’s flaws they don’t want us to know about.

By boring I would refer to my old 1993 Corollas and 2001 Camry: suspension so soft that it feels like the dampers are worn even when new, lots of sway in the turns, numb steering, vague brakes. None of these have anything directly to do with longevity or reliability. This is what I would mean by “boring”. By comparison my daughter’s Mazda3 seems “alive” by comparison: tremendous go-kart handling, great brakes, great shock/damping, a feeling of “connectedness” with the car that is just electric. And yet going strong at 218k, and a neighbor with one just hit 300k.

I purchased a Mercedes E550 cabriolet brand new in may of 2012 and I never had to get warranty work done at all. I just got it fully inspected to see what needs to be done on it and the report came back clean. I don’t know if I am lucky but this car has been flawless for me far from a money pit.

I lived in East Africa for some years. Bought a Toyota Yaris runaround and it was an absolute gem. It was old and had clearly seen better days but it was cheap as chips on fuel and even cheaper chips to put right, because it was such a simply engineered car, and if you've ever been to East Africa you know what the roads are like and how often you're gonna have to drive on rough tracks. This thing stood up to everything, I frickin loved it. Was gutted to pass it on when I left Africa. I also bought a 4x4 for going further out of the city cos there's only so far you can safely go in a supermini in East Africa. It came down to a Nissan X-Trail or a Toyota Rav4. Everybody wanted a Rav4 so they cost more and I came across an X-Trail I eventually bought from a colleague at a fairly competitive price. I wish I'd hung on to my money and waited for a Rav4 to fit my budget better. That X-Trail haemorrhaged money. It became a fun trips car, just to take out the city for the mtns, the savannahs or the Coast every few weekends cos to use it more than that was to risk it going wrong. Drove it a good few times from Nairobi to Mombasa but from the the 2nd time I did that drive (500km on single carriageway of decent surface but utterly crazy bus & truck drivers) I couldn't get it through the Tsavo plains with it's searing sun beating down without the X-Trail overheating like fk! I'd have to stop for a couple hours under a tree in a town, and go for a wander, then drive the rest of the way to Mombasa once it had cooled down. Nightmare. I never heard of any of my Rav4 driving friends having that problem. Plus the Yaris was just a better bet cos when you put it in harm's way, it didn't make you cry to get it fixed. In East Africa, everyone in the market for a car is looking for a Toyota. End of story. They are really not stupid. Most of the cars you'll see on the roads are Toyotas; taxis, minibuses (older Nissans too), corrupt politicians, businessmen, everyone would have a Yaris, Probox, Prado, Camry, Land Cruiser, Lexus. Usually they're imported direct from Japan. Wherever in the World you see UN vehicles out in the sticks, what do they use? Land Cruisers. Scotty is bang on the money, you just ain't gonna go wrong with a Toyota.

There is a little known reason why German equipment broke down - sabbatoge. They used POWs in their equipment assembly plants when possible. The "captured employees" would leave certain parts out when assemblying. One favourite was to eliminate bushings when possible.

You only have to be stranded on the side of the road a couple times, especially in the heat or cold with a wife and young children, before "boring" reliable vehicles become REALLY desirable, sexy even!
