I've had my eye on that Epiphone SG model (it comes in white too, which is really classy looking!). The price difference between this and the Gibson model is pretty substantial which is driving me to the Epiphone. I really love a gloss finish on a guitar. To me, a satin finish is "cheap" looking. (just my own opinion here). It sounds really good in your demo, and I'm gonna check one out for myself. Thank-you for posting this!

I couldn’t agree more about the satin finish. I have a Les Paul Special that I bought a coupla years ago and it’s a fine guitar but has a satin finish, which I immediately hated. It’s now covered in mainly marijuana package stickers. I just picked up an Epiphone Firebird which I promise won’t see a single sticker!

Congrats on the 500 Subs ! Beer time 🍻 I have a Epi SG Classic with P90"s. For the price you get a whole lotta guitar. Thank you for the story and the vid. Always nice to hear these.

Awesome review love it! I totally felt the same way about Guitars that I thought were “ugly”. I never thought I would ever play headless guitars until I tried one. I now have a headless Kiesel Leia guitar that is now my “go to guitar” simply because I gave it a chance and ended up loving it! Cheers Ashley keep up the great work! 👏

I have a 1960 Les paul with the 60's neck and its a Epiphone that i have had for 3 years now! It has the 57 classic pick up's that are Gibson all i can say is i'm okay with the Epiphone and this guitar i got from sweet water it was around 989.00 something like that. The set up was good but i set it up the way i wanted to be and i only adjusted the neck one time! So being that said i'm happy with my Les Paul guitar. Nice looking SG. Rock on.

I to have an Ephiphone SG (all Black) that doesnt have the P90 pick ups just the regular 2 double humbucker pickups with your volume and tone knobes and 3 way selector switch but I've had this guitar since 2009 and here we are its 2023 and my SG still plays great and really the only reason I bought this guitar back then and still own it to this day was because of one of my guitar heroes Angus Young of AC/DC inspired me to pick up and start playing an SG.

Thank you for the video! Beautiful guitar, though I'm biased. I love me some Epiphones. I think that for the price they're very hard to beat (I have four Epi Les Pauls, so clearly biased). I've been looking at the SG Standard 60s for a bit, but not sure if I''d be okay with the photo top. It's why I'm also looking at the Custom. Except that the Custom has the Alinco Classic Pro pickups, that I'm not a fan of. Anyway, I'll just say that that fretboard looks like it could use some conditioner (looks a touch dried out). I use Music Nomad F-One Fretboard Conditioner and as a side bonus, it darkens the fretboard up quite a bit. Highly recommend.

Ashley, SG's are bad a$$...I have 3 of them , 2 Gibsons and an Epi and I gotta say that Epihone most certainly holds it's own and sounds great.. superb choice you made....cheers from Akron Ohio

I have guitars that cost thousands and I have ones that cost a few hundred. Price usually means more consistency and better materials but some of my cheaper ones have the mojo and I love them. Congrats on 500 subs!

Welcome to the SG club. I've got the Gibson version of the 61 just like that and a SG special. Took me about 25 years of playing other guitars before i finally tried an SG. I never liked the look either. Love them now.

You should try a Sire guitar! L7 is the LP version. H7 is a 335 , T7 is Tele and S7 is Strat version. These guitars are very high quality for very mid price. Keep up the good work. Love your videos...

Very Cool, Thankyou. Technical Difficulties, AArgh, Doh. The 'Repeat' recording still seemed very 'Natural', Awesome. Nice Work. Stunning Guitar. I was lucky to pick up a 2004 Black Epiphone SG 'Standard' 'used' with Hardcase on 'Marketplace' for an absolute Bargain. Was never really a fan of SG's although being a huge Angus Young and Duane Allman Fan. But now my SG is one of my favorite guitars, I now somewhat understand what Gibson 'advertisements' said, "The Fastest Neck in the world". All the best. Cheers

No need to apologize for edits and retakes. You are a natural. I grew up with a mom that was an opera singer with the LA met (with Leonard Bernstein leading the charge), an off Broadway musical performer and composer, and a dad that was a concert pianist of some renown in the 1940’s and I know a natural when I see one! You may not feel it but you are at home in front of the camera. Your sub count is proof LOL. On another note, I had a similar Epi SG (before I started my KZbin channel - an Indonesian made 2014) with a bolt on neck - $169. I put CTS pots, pro-buckers, and a few other mods and it was a favorite. I sold it last year and have regretted it since. I have the hardware to build another one and will probably do so. I would recommend you keeping that one if you can. To your point - its a great time to buy budget guitars - but the pendulum can swing so take advantage while you can. Like me, you might want to let go of some for various reasons, but I wish I had kept that one. All the very best - keep being your awesome self!

- Be aware that more expensive/custom shop guitars are almost always going for a "vintage sweetness" tone which means quieter pickups; if your goal is "punch" then you will actually prefer the less expensive models. Angus Young's T-Top pickups are renown for being unusually quiet for a humbucker. - Don't forget the third option in the P90-vs-humbucker debate, the Modern. Both Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls and SGs have a Modern model that feature push-pull knobs, which instantly routes either of the the included humbuckers as a single-coil - sweet when you want sweet, punch when you want punch. Moderns also have an asymmetrical neck that's thinner on the bottom than the top, which most players find faster and more comfortable than the standard vintage necks.

Epiphone has been cheaping out on the tops lately. I have an SG G400 that has a beautiful wood grain from 2012 but a lot of their veneers are quite unappealing since 2020

I love SG's. But I'm not a fan of gloss finishes, they don't hide fingerprints like a faded finish does. I had a faded brown Epiphone, picked it up used in mint condition for only $200, gigged with it for several years but eventually sold it. Now my main SG's are a faded brown Gibson special/tribute and a red faded Gibson SGJ.

Not sure why one would buy an Epiphone SG when you already own a Custom Shop Gibson except to either build your KZbin channel or you have some seriously out of control GAS. How many guitars do you own at this point? From looking at your channel it seems you are well into double digits... have you hit twenty yet? It appears you have no lack of guitars but you are seriously lacking a good amp. Maybe sell a couple of guitars and get a really nice small quality built tube amp???

2:14 quote: Moral of the story is I ended up getting the Custom Shop. It doesn’t have the punchlines of the 08’ and so we are kind of on a journey to find something that checks all of the boxes in terms of - light weight, punchlines, natural feeling to move around with it. So here we are”
@7171jay
@7171jay Жыл бұрын
@erikthompson Thanks but I did catch that in the video. My point is the Custom Shop is going to be a solid example of a '60s SG. That it is supposedly "lacking punchy-ness" according to a player who is somewhat of a beginner, clearly lacks right hand control and is playing though either a budget transistor Fender practice amp or a JC120 (a very niche transistor amp) is a bit silly in my opinion. It seems Ashley is either simply looking to build a channel that encourages people to buy guitars or if she is actually honestly documenting her guitar journey she may be bit misguided. Rather than endlessly chasing another SG and every other guitar in the world taking a serious look at the really nice example of one that she already owns would be the way to go. Adjusting the pickup height would be something to seriously consider if it hasn't been already but honestly trying to judge specific details about the sound of guitars without a quality amp to do that with is just wandering around in the dark. A couple of good guitars, a quality amp, and a lot of practice I think makes more sense than buying a guitar more often then you change strings but hey that's just my thought.
