I just purchased a Les Paul tribute on Sunday. Arrived today. American Musical. You sound great!!!
@MrMjp5827 күн бұрын
I tried one of these extensively today. I’ve never owned an SG and only ever played on one or two over the years, so am not a connoisseur. I found it to be a perfect ‘rock’ guitar and great for other stuff too. The neck and overall feel is so user-friendly and the sounds are strong, clear and expressive. A superb guitar.

As someone who prefers a binding-less neck, regular dot inlays, and a satin neck I went with this one and have slowly upgraded the pickups and all the wiring. nitro satin finish, rosewood board, nice case, and USA made used for about $800 to me is a great deal. You can still get a used epiphone SG for like $400 which is a ridiculously good deal but this one was my preference and I have been more than happy with it.

I’ve had mine for a year now and love this guitar! The poker chip won’t fit, aside from that I have no complaints. I haven’t changed a thing on it and I don’t plan to. I can see this guitar becoming a favorite among players.
@teleguy5699Ай бұрын
Are you talking about the poker chip in the bag? I read that you have to remove 2 or 3 washers on the switch and that gives you room for the chip.

I wish Gibson would route the body for P90s as well, the large guard would cover the cavity and Gibson could offer a pre cut P90 pick guard as well.

I also have a SG Tribute (satin cherry) for 1 year now and is definitely the best guitar i have ever played. Very light and therefore easy to handle, crazy low action and therefore perfect playability, very resonant body, great tone and the feeling of the satin neck without the binding is amazing. I also prefer the more minimalistic looks of it compared to the standard (with bindings, pickup covers, etc.)...

This is basically what Gibson sold as the SG Special Faded back in the 2010's, for half the price. Now, with the price doubled, about all they did was change the wood of the neck and remove the toggle switch plate. I know inflation is a thing and all that.. But I can't be the only one who finds the price doubling a bit outrageous. Luckily I got my Special Faded in 2011...

I’ve owned the equivalent of this guitar- main diff mahogany neck. Great guitars, and it’s amazing that a guitar that is so feather light can pack so much punch. The 490r is an uncommonly useful neck pickup, however I wish the 498t was the bridge pickup.

I got an SG Tribute for £550.00 new. Maybe 2018. It's a f*cking animal. Mahogany neck, slim 60s 24 fret. B/Buckers 1 & 2. Chocolate, the finish looks like the school hall floor. I really cannot understand why Gibson can't just churn these out and keep the price as low as possible. All this "messing around" and chopping-and-changing defeats the object of doing really good Gibson Americana at a sensible price. It's a stonking good guitar. They're obviously absolutely nuts in the Gibson boardroom.

I saw one of these walnut finished Tributes in a shop recently, and they’re SO pretty. I got a Standard a couple of weeks ago and before that I would have said I preferred the small guard, but the batwing has really struck me. It’s more resonant than the Special I had before, and I wonder if the batwing has something to do with that. But the big pickguard is a stunner in person.

Great demo and playing as usual, but I just don’t understand why Gibson insists on continuing to use the 490T pickup. The 57 Classic Plus and 498T are both waaay better. The 490R is a good pickup, but the 490T has always sounded rather bland to my ears whenever I hear it or play a guitar with it.

Agreed, I have one of these in Walnut, great instrument but the bridge pup is the weakest part of it. the R is fine in the neck, but I mainly use the bridge and it's not as punchy as the filtertrons in my Gretsch twinjet. I'm thinking of putting some BK pups into it.

Agree to disagree. I tried this one as well as an Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG standard and bought the Epi. Everything felt better on the Epiphone, even though it was fairly less expensive. It was an easy choice because I care more about the sound and playability than the name on the headstock. So maybe a good value but certainly not the BEST value.

@@joey-zr8ltEpiphone is amazing. Especially for the price and being an import company. But Gibson is better definitely. I own both Gibson and Epiphone SG’s and LP’s. And the Gibsons are better. When you factor in price are they better that is subjective. But say if they were all the same price (we can wish) most people would have Gibson’s. My Gibson’s sound and feel way better than Epiphone. Though I do love my Epiphone’s, I think it’s mainly because value can’t be beaten. My Gibson SG standard feels and sounds better than both my Epiphone SG’s. Both my Epiphones needed a full set up. Frets also needed some work straight out of the box. I also notice there is a quality difference in materials. They are all under 3years old. The Gibson gets played the most and still looks new. The Epiphone’s seem to age slightly faster just sitting there.

Epiphone is always a better value. You get more bells and whistles for the money of a stripped down Gibson. But, I think the Tribute and Studio is as good as you're going to get value wise for Gibson. I have an Epi and a Gibson. I see no inferiority from the Epi except that it's Chinese made.
