That drummer is Carmine Appice. Rock royalty. Still alive. Read about him.

It was a fun hit. Funk and rock at the same time. Love both versions. lol A classic. Also love the name Vanilla Fudge.

Since I tend to prefer a heavier rock arrangement, I love this even more than the Supremes. It was great to hear it again.

The members of this band are very funny in their performance of this song! But behind these grotesque masks is the message of sadness for a lost love! Thanks Chad for your reaction to such an unusual song!🤕😊

The drummer was Carmine Appice from NYC and he used to give drumming tutorials. I met him at a tutorial in the 80's. He was sort of surprised that a "girl" played drums although there were quite a few good lady drummers like Karen Carpenter and Sheila E. Very nice man and not nearly as manic as in the video. He also played with Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart.

This to me one of the greatest songs ever, superb cover. I loved it in 68 still do. Did Season of the Witch, Take me for a While(i dig that). Covered Ticket to Ride, Eleanor Rigby and more. Mark Stein is a great singer still performing. Keep up the good work.

Well, this was an experience for sure! Everything about this performance was crazy, high energy almost the entire time and everyone killed it in everything they did in it! I've never heard of this artist or song before. They definitely have an interesting name. Now, I'm gonna have to listen to The Supreme's version of this song to hear how it goes, since it's the original one.

We knew it was a phenomenal sound when it hit the charts. Also, Superstition by Jeff Beck, Carmine Appice and Tim Bogart.

Nice golf course pic in your intro! :) Interesting performance. I have never heard of this band either. Maybe this is why they were a "one hit wonder"! I was chuckling along with you. Fun reaction, chad.

Well Chad I was 18. In 1968, I remember this song played in a lot of body painting clubs. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥😜

This magnificent song will be 60 yrs old im 4 years.I stil love it as much as i heard it in 68. Mark Stein is a great singer. They specialize in remaking classic tunes with their own spin on it I know u dug Brown Eyed Woman/ Bill Medley. I have another suggestion . Expressway to yr Heart by the Soul Survivors, late 60s. Philly soul at its best.

I must say I prefer the Supremes version of this song but I'm not hating this. The energy of these guys! Wow! Thanks for reacting to this one.

This is a cover of a song that the Supremes did first. I like it better than theirs, but that's just me. I love that, where the Supremes sing it like their scolding, whereas this fellow sings it like he's in such pain he can hardly imagine it's happening to him...and, of course, the music is much more complex, interesting, and powerful than it is in the original. The drummer, by the way, is Carmine Appice, a rock and roll hall of fame drummer. This band was known for doing heavy, ponderous, psychedelic and eerie covers of the pop hits of the day. Again, in my opinion, they usually produced songs far more interesting than the originals they were covering. Great song choice, and great reaction, I'll be a new sub because of this.

Never heard this version either and I was 22 then which means I should have heard this. Course those were drinking and drug days, so it’s quite possible I missed it.😅

The lyrics are interesting. Both the Supremes and Vanilla Fudge sang this song without changing a word. Listening to the Supremes, it sounded like they were singing about a girl…..but when Vanilla Fudge sang it, it sounded like they were singing about a guy. I first attended a show of the Vanilla Fudge in NYC in 1969, then again 50 years later (2019) in Old Saybrook, CT and again in 2023 in JIm Thorpe, PA. Mark, Vinnie and Carmine are originals that might have only gotten only better over all these years. Pete replaced Tim Bogart. I’d recommend viewers listening to Vanilla Fudge doing Elenor Rigby….amazing…

Hello Lyle... thanks for your feedback. This is a reaction channel, not a research channel. Doing prior research, as you say, defeats the purpose of an authentic reaction. Takes away the entertainment factor (the older generation watching the first-time reaction of the younger).
