OK so I’ve got my mustard seeds,vinegar, water and salt soaking overnight. Excited to continue in the morning! I’m thinking of sautéing some sweet onion (puréed) and also adding some honey. Thank you for this recipe and making it look so simple!

How much is "a bit"? and do you can it? We LOVE horseradish mustard and our horseradish bed is beginning to resemble Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors"

Hi Toni, can you use all yellow mustard seeds and regular vinegar? I’d love to try making this with my grandson. Do you have a video on homemade ketchup?
@HerHomesteadSkills3 жыл бұрын
S Brumfield..Yes you can! I understand that you would have to add a bit of Tumeric to produce the yellow color that you are familiar with....Yes I do have a video on making ketchup... here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4jLlIiJd5mXn7M

Did the taste mellow with time, or still rather spicy?
@HerHomesteadSkills3 жыл бұрын
Roxanne Sears..from my experience they do mellow with time, and especially after opening!
@roxannesears78783 жыл бұрын
Have you opened, tasted, and found this to be true of the mustard you prepared in this video? I'm wanting to try some mustard but don't want it terribly spicy. Thank you Toni!
@HerHomesteadSkills3 жыл бұрын
Roxanne Sears..If you are aiming for less spicy, the yellow seeds are the least spicy, then the brown more so and the black even spicier...so you can start with just yellow seeds only or a much smaller percentage of brown seeds to determine if you like that flavor...use warm water and perhaps adjust the liquid by decreasing the water and increasing the vinegar content...keep the same ratio of liquid to seed mixture...Hope this helps!!!

Thank you Toni

Only once have I made homemade mustard. It was delicious. I added sugar to make it hot and sweet. I'm ready to make a few jars and can them. It is so easy. Once you make your own mustard, you will never buy it at the store.
@hoosierpreppingnurse Жыл бұрын
Not sure what I am doing wrong. Twice I have tried making mustard. One time thicker and one time thinner. Each time I made 3 8 oz and one 4 oz jar. Both times two lids blew off. Jars did not break. I de bubbled first time 1/4 head space second 1/2 head space. Any ideas? I make sure that the rings were finger tight.
@HerHomesteadSkills Жыл бұрын
that's odd...try a different brand of lids maybe? I gave up on the "snaptite" brand sold at Dollarama...they buckled!

HI. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ADDING VINEGAR TO THE WATER
@HerHomesteadSkills10 ай бұрын
Good question...It prevents the minerals in the water from adhering to the outside of your jars and giving them a cloudy appearance.
@garrycarter848510 ай бұрын
THANKS. I DID NOT KNOW THAT. SHOULD YOU ADD IT AT THE BEGINNING WHEN YOU START TO BOIL THE WATER @@HerHomesteadSkills
