The notes are very similar to woodford double oak, which I like but not crazy about. This jack daniels double barrel rye is amazing though.

I like some double oaked and toasted whiskeys. This one i was not a big fan of, though when i did have it, it was from a bottle just opened. Did let it sit for awhile before trying it, but ya just wasnt my jam. My brother has it so i may try it again now that its had some time to open up. I think i could still get a bottle at srp if i do end up liking it after opening up some

I’m with Matt on this one. It’s got great characteristics but falls flat on flavor beyond old oak. First, it one of the most mellow and palatable 100 proofs I’ve had. It’s thick like real maple syrup but it tastes like toasted oak syrup. It’s not sweet but has those baking spices in it. Think pumpkin pie without the sugar. It beats out Woodford & Sycamore but ties Michters in the double/toasted oak categories. The Heritage rye from 2020 is more up my alley and a great rye.

Jack Daniels is absolutely killing it with everything on everything that goes into the shorter and wider bottles. The Bonded Series of Burbon/Rye/Malt/Triple Mash are okay (but would fit better at $29.99 in the market). The Special Release and Single Barrel products have been fantastic. To my own detriment I've preached the value of JD SBBP bourbon in my local facebook whiskey group and now EVERYONE is on that hype train and the bottles are becoming very hard to find. These JD SBBP Bourbon and Rye are two of my favorite whiskies under $150, and they only cost $60-$70.

According to the Whiskey Advocate, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye Whiskey isn’t a Tennessee Whiskey as it doses not has the required 51% corn to be Tennessee Whiskey.

Wonder if this is the fancy version of the new JD bonded rye. Same proof? I was really looking forward to this bonded rye, as I really like the Triple mash. It was a bit disappointing. It's good for it's price point, but think it suffered from my high expectations.

To me in the double oaks Ive tried the WRDO is the best. If it had the flavor it has now with more proof i would buy it by the cases. It just falls short in that aspect, imo.

Matt did a few tastings prior to this one, obviously, and regardless of what he says. When he says “samsky” to describe a sample, well, yet another tell.
