I always hung out my clothes in Florida- the towels do get a little stiff but if you shake them when off the line and bunch them a little before folding they soften up. When doing cloth diapers - I rinsed them in the toilet and put them in a diaper pail with a little bleach and water - I had a machine and used Dreft in a load by themselves with an extra rinse. But if doing by hand I’d do them them separately bleach and hot water, Castile soap next and then a really good rinse - cloth diapers wash up very nicely and with the new diaper covers are really no trouble.

Miss Katie i wash our clothes daily by hand with a wash board and we finally bought a new hand wringer. I’m in heaven. There is something about washing the clothes with just the noise of the chickens and the stillness of being able to hear god and talk to him in the midst of laundry

I use a 5 gallon bucket and a new toilet plunger. I drilled holes in the plunger that does the same as your item. We are living without electric and water. We do the best we can with what we have. We are low income so we can't afford the things that I want to live this way. We do have a way to get water. It only costs .25 for 50 gallons of water. We have rechargeable items that I take to the library everyday M - S. On Sunday the church allows us to charge everything while we are in Bible study and sermon time. We do not have a vehicle so a really great man from our church gets water for me. I have tried to pay him for his gas time and water but he refuses. He even made me a stand for the water barrel.

Loved this video!!!! ❤️💯❤️ I had never heard of Lehman's before I saw it on your KZbin channel 🤗 It's amazing and the quality of their products is definitely another level! ❤️ It's funny to see this video today, as I was just speaking with a sister in Christ who's pregnant with her first baby and I was sharing with her how my mom would wash all of my diapers when I was a baby, she then shared with me that she is considering using cloth diapers but that she doesn't know how to wash the messy diapers or where she should do it. This video came at the right time 🤗 We will be installing clothes lines outside and I will definitely look for the clothes pins you have recommended 🧺 And thank you so much for sharing the tips on how to prepare for severe weather and emergencies. It was all very helpful ❤️ I appreciate you so much, Mrs Katie 🌻 it's always a blessing to see you here 🤗 God bless you and your precious family always in Jesus name 🙌🏻

Mrs Katie! I am so happy you shared hanging out clothes on the clothesline! I totally enjoyed helping my mom hang out the clothes onthe clothesline in our yard. We had some good conversations while hanging clothes outside. We used clothespins too. Some without springs and some with springs. And my mom had made her own washing aprons with big pockets for the clothes pins. My mom had a wringer washer and used two laundry tubs for the rinse waters. We used it until my father bought a regular top washer. I think your five things to do are so wise! When the weather talk aboutbeing prepared they never think of what you said which was so wise and helps to decrease the stress of not having electricity or water.

Your channel just popped up on my feed! I was very interested in your topic, and now I'm going to subscribe! I live in west central Ohio, north of Dayton. I had thought of making my own off-grid washer with a five gallon bucket and a plunger. My clothes line just gave out a few weeks ago😱 I will have to rig something up here soon. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going to Lehman's! That was always a treat on our family vacations to that area each summer. Thank you for your list--very sensible ideas!

When I lived in Ohio, I had a wringer washer. I used it all the time for my husband's work clothes. It was a lot of fun to use.❤

Great video. I do the same here! Get stuff cleaned up, put up and away cause if stuff starts flying you wanna have a better chance not getting injured .. We keep bike helmets near by to put on the kids since we have to go outside a few steps to our storm cellar..

I have relatives in Ohio, so I've heard of Lehmann's but have never been there. I'll put it on my list for my next visit. I can live without the dishwasher, but not my washer and dryer. We used to have clotheslines, and I used to hang clothes out all the time, but I had to stop because nothing catches pollen better than wet cloth and I'm allergic to everything. And around here (Southeastern NC), pollen season runs from about March to November, sometimes later, depending on when we get our first freeze. But knowing how to do at least a few pieces of laundry by hand could come in handy after the next hurricane. But laundry in general is one of my least favorite chores. I'd much rather cook or even wash windows.

I like doing laundry and ironing. I have never had a clothes line, however, my great aunt did and I loved sleeping in “air dried” sheets.

I've never done laundry without a machine before, but I can see how something like that agitator would be helpful! I wish I could hang clothes out to dry, but we've got lots of allergies here and they would accuse me of trying to kill them. 🤣

Yep, have done lots of hand laundry. I don't mind at all. Unfortunately, my HOA does not allow outside clotheslines. I can put items on clothes hangers and hang them on the shower rod. And I put a tarp or plastic tablecloth on my deck railing and hang my sheets. And hope no one is looking! There's always a way.

Thanks for sharing, i think of doing laundry by hand in case of an emergency. But confuse on the part that you have a dish washer and not washing machine. Is it just pure preference ?

I’m about to add a clothes line to my homestead. I’m excited about it. But I’ve heard “it’ll make your clothes stiff”, if that’s true, how do you combat that?
@katie77482 ай бұрын
A bit stiffer than if you put them in the dryer, especially towels, yes. One trick you can try is to flap/snap them a couple times before hanging as well as after. I don't notice stiffness anymore with anything except jeans on less windy days and towels. Although...I think it depends on the towel. Our velvety beach towels are still soft but the regular ones get stiff. I'd also add that you can put half a cup of vinegar into the rinse to help with softness. It shouldn't make it stink unless you're hand washing and don't rinse the vinegar out well enough. Skip the fabric softener. It's not good for you, your clothes, your machines if you have them, or the planet. Plus, vinegar is much cheaper. You can even make your own! Hope that helps 😊

I would enjoy laundry much better if my machine didn't go off kilter multiple times Every Single Time ! I would Happily do laundry by hand.
