My daddy would roll him a cigarette with that. I wish now, that I had kept one of those cans. 🥹

👍 Great video. It’s surprising how intimidating cast iron is for newbies I remember my Mother in law teaching me 45 years ago it’s all I use as well. Love you sweet friend.

I was taught to use soap only if absolutely necessary (by mother and both grandmothers). I've seen my mama heat the cast iron back up to clean it (just as you described) many, many times, and she always dries it thoroughly and rubs on a thin layer of oil or shortening before putting it away. Since that's what I know to do, that's pretty much what I do, too. What you said about the lye makes a lot of sense for how "no soap" came to be. This was fun to watch; thanks! 🙂

What are the negative effects of dry cleaning? Perchloroethylene (PERC), a potential human carcinogen, is the most commonly used dry cleaning solvent. Symptoms associated with exposure include: depression of the central nervous system; damage to the liver and kidneys; impaired memory; confusion; dizziness; headache; drowsiness; and eye, nose, and throat irritation.

That’s the tobacco my Daddy used to finger roll his cigarettes. Our oldest son learned to walk because my Daddy put pennies inside to make noise for his grandson to reach for that bright red noisy can.

That's a vintage Lodge cast iron corn stick pan, made especially to be used with their outdoor camp ovens and dutch ovens. The rounded handle will fit perfectly inside a Lodge dutch oven.

THANK YOU! I don't have an instant pot, the light on my oven doesn't work, and it's an electric oven. I'd been trying to find some way to easily use the crock pot, and this is by far THE MOST CLEAR and PRECISE instruction imaginable. I'm using our raw milk too. Love from Georgia USA!

I have an extensive cast iron collection, including pjoikies. I recently bought my lodge ceramic. I purchased a 3.5 shallow casserole, a 4.5-quart Dutch oven, and a 6-quart Dutch oven. That will about do it for me. I love the little black tabs for protection. I also love the spiced Island red!

Your herbs look beautiful and well taken care of! I'm in my first year of gardening, and I'm growing parsley, basil, citrus mint, lemon balm, and catnip. I've made lemon balm/citrus mint tea from fresh pickings, but thank you for giving a short, sweet and to-the-point video on how to dry them once late autumn arrives.
