would have been double the amount of wiring, but you could have wired the LEDs such that only the single fret LED lights when you press down on a fret. here's how: you could have made a series (logical AND) circuit for the LED saying that in order for the LED to light, it has to have a connection in both the fret before it AND the fret after it. the only place this wouldn't work is the first fret, since the first fret only has one reference and not two. although you could have also accomplished this by installing a solid state relay in the guitar and have it connected to the 2nd fret, and wire it such that the first fret LED only lights if the first fret is detected AND the second fret is NOT detected. although this would have been a bit more wiring. either way i'm thoroughly impressed with this guitar. nice video.

ImaginaryHuman072889 When you press down between two frets you're making contact with the fret in front, and in back. There's no way to isolate that.

if each fret was connected to its own solid state relay, this would provide electrical isolation between each fret, and you could use then use the relay contacts for the simple logic circuits to light the LEDs. i realize this is completely not worth doing, but its possible.

This is analog, not digital. Might have an Arduino version eventually, but that's only if the programming keeps up with the playing speed.
