I am 65 and grew up in Chicago. I remember being in 6th grade and my teacher took us on boat ride, a paddle boat of all things. We danced and sang to this song, in all likely hood it was the twist. We sang the way he did. Little kids imitate what they hear. Thanks for the post, "I am Emery the eighth I am," yes I heard him say "Enery", not Henry. We loved it.... Thanks for the post and of course the memories.... Ghost!!!

I went to a Teen Idols concert a few years ago or so that had Davy Jones, Bobby Sherman and Peter Noone. When it was Peter Noone's turn and he sang "Henry the 8th", he had each section say "H-e-n-r-y!" as loud as we could and I think my section was the loudest.

Been many times since with her to see him perform. Says "I keep my best of CD our of sight at home but play it all the time when friends aren't around" Tommy James, Peter & Gordon, Cummings and may others were there but Herman and "H E N O R Y" is the one that stayed with her all these years later.

Shocked that Peter Noone and company, jamming as Herman's Hermits, was such an excellent 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment at Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia last night. Noone is charismatic, charming and remains a babe magnet at 71-years-old, with a crisp voice and an arsenal of non-stop, edgy and quick-witted humor. They did a set that included many of Herman's Hermits' hits, as well as covers from the Beatles, Bobby Riddell, The Clovers (Love Potion #9), and hits made famous by The Kinks (Dandy), Johnny Cash (Ring of Fire), The Monkees (Daydream Believer, and many, many more. Every number was a crowd pleaser. Noone's band includes a well seasoned string combo, an accurate drummer, and Cleveland's Rich Spina, formerly of many bands including Gary Lewis' Playboys, and his own well-known Ohio act. Spina handles keys, backing vocals, and dons a guitar for one song. After a busy concert week, like the old Dusty was apt to do, - seeing the Smashing Pumpkins, High Flying Birds, and AFI - I was seriously pleased at how Noone and his compadres kept the fans constantly singing along to nothing short of a stunning barrage of 1960s favorites. There's nothing left to say other than it's nothing short of highly recommendable. I shot about 45 minutes of video before my phone gave out. But none of it came out as clear as this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap_ak5Ktjr2KZsU (You're right, Candy Kelii. They are wonderful.)

A bit of an aberration. Noone had left the band a couple of years earlier, and was only back briefly at this point. Bassist Karl Green, lead guitarist Derek Leckenby (RIP), drummer Barry Whitwam and (at this point) John Gaughan on rhythm guitar had persevered quite well on their own, recording prolifically for RCA Victor, including the groundbreaking Whale Of A Tale album. Soon after, Noone was gone again, Gaughan was succeeded by the great Frank Renshaw (ex-Toggery Five) and Karl Green took his rightful place as front man. Having seen them dozens of times during that period, I can readily attest that the they were the best live band on the planet for the remainder of the 1970s.

Note that this is the 1973 lineup. The group split up in 1971. Lead guitarist Derek"Lek" Leckenby and drummer Barry Whitwam toured with their own version of "Herman's Hermits".
