An EPIC battle of the bands. The original vs the COVER! Which is better? We judged, now do it for yourself!

The original is great, but Karen's voice is just mesmerizing. I do like both, however, I'm just so infatuated with Karen's voice.

Hi! New subscriber here! I’ve been a fan of Herman’s Hermits for a LONG time! So I LOVE Herman’s Hermits version! To be honest I’ve never heard Karen’s version until just now! The Carpenters version sounded nice, however I’ve just GOT to pick Herman’s Hermits! Thanks again for your honest reactions! As you can probably guess I’ve been binging on your reactions! Peace and Blessings from Australia.

Great song…but, Karen was a gift from God!

Both versions are great, but for different reasons. The Hermits' version is more straightforward; the Carpenters' version is more elaborately arranged.

And which is the better one? C'mon, tell the truth!

@@OnlytheTruthReviews-pe9mw Based on Karen’s vocals, the Carpenters should win this easily, but here’s the thing with me: I tend to be with the “less is more” school of thought, and “A Kind of Hush” isn’t the kind of song that really needs a lot of embellishment. Richard Carpenter’s arrangement for this recording was a bit too fussy for the song and spoils its simple appeal to some extent. That’s not a knock against Richard: his arrangements were no less important to the Carpenters’ success than Karen’s vocals, and they worked really well on many of the Carpenters' big hits such as “Close to You,” “Rainy Days and Mondays,” “A Song For You,” and many others, but was a bit too over the top for “A Kind of Hush.” Richard himself agreed: years later, reflecting upon this recording, Richard said that he loved the song and that’s the reason that he and Karen recorded it, but in retrospect, even he thought the arrangement was too much (and he was the one who did it).

Hey Cece and Dennis! I call it the Carpenters’ Army. That’s how I found you. Subscribed. I’m writing as the show is going as I know both songs well. They each have merit in different ways. Tie. Or 👍🏻👍🏻 The Carpenters had a lot of covers. You can have a field day with; Ticket To Ride, Close To You, Superstar vs Groupie (Superstar), Help vs. Help!, Please Mr. Postman. And the anomaly. California Dreamin’ when they weren’t “Carpenters” yet vs. The Mamas and The Papas. I’m sure there were more, these are just off my head. How about who I believe I mentioned before. Georgia On My Mind; Ray Charles vs. Tori Holub. I know who will win but it won’t be easy. Merry Christmas, Darling; Carpenters vs. Tori Holub. Again, we know but it’s not a slam dunk. What I’m saying is Tori can hold her own but… sentimentality will usually win, but losing to greatness isn’t really a loss, always. You may need to search Tori’s name and title to find them, they are audio only full tracks. It’s a fun idea. Joe Edit: Just for fun but not an official competitor. Let’s put in Tori’s homage Short cover of Superstar to spike the punch. She actually has her own version in an arrangement done for her. Can be searched. It’s in the same place as MC, Darling. kzbin.infoSkUizGYJeK4?si=kHsuczuIrcMLLdCx .

@@OnlytheTruthReviews-pe9mw excellent choice! There are numerous through musical history. In my time highlighting Tori, fan not shill, there’s a big one she did. Full length and a video. Carpenters in 1970 were on The Ed Sullivan Show, they performed The Bacharach/David Medley. 53 years later Tori took a challenge from a subscriber to duplicate that Medley. I did my research and found she was the only non-Carpenter and non-Tribute act to ever cover that Medley and do it accurately. So I’ve been requesting that combo and have had it done either in one video side by side or two videos one after the other. Covers don’t have to be perfect if they are respectful of the original or a recreation or in their own style. All are good and honorable if done well. Have fun with the concept.

@@OnlytheTruthReviews-pe9mw Congratulations on the video. In fact, it is very difficult to surpass the original, but Elvis, the Beatles and the Carpenters managed the feat.
