My guess about the quartz filter is that those hoppers are just outside the chunks that are loaded by items going through the nether portal. Thus when you come to check on it all the quartz gets loaded at once and is too much for the hoppers to process.

@@chickenbobbobba I don't think so, a stack of pearls (16) counts the same as a stack of blackstone (64) for a comparator. So as long as he set up all the filters the same way the pearls shouldn't be a problem.

Iskall, I think the sheep is attracted to the portal because obsidian is a full block and glass is not. Ilmango made a farm a little while ago which allows mobs to spawn on top labs, and then built a completely filled in cube of full blocks just on the other side of the spawning area with a chute and trap doors in between. He relies on the mechanic that mobs will pathfinder to full blocks rather than half slabs. I think this sheep is doing the same thing.

@@brantmclamb9152 The different terms mean very different things, which is why I was confused by the original statement. Heck, even "transparency" in Minecraft is like five different things. Are we talking transparent to light? Because slabs aren't that. Transparent for beacons? They are that. Transparent for redstone? Yes. Transparent for sunlight (which is actually different to light)? No. Transparent for texture? Another no. Strangely, glass also does not have a transparent texture, which is why it's never looked good. I actually have no idea which aspect of slabs and glass would cause the pathing behavior. Is it the redstone transparency or the beacon transparency?

The 41 items in the filter is important for overflow protection. The change you made will break the filter and each near it when an filter's storage is completely filled.

DO NOT PUT IN MORE THAN 4 FILTER ITEMS! If you do the count of items in that hopper can become so high that the signal overflows into adjacent modules. This causes them to empty out their filter item slot and will result in random items in the chests

The problem with quartz might be that filter is too far from the portal. When item goes through the portal it loads a portal chuck + neighboring chunks as entity processing chunks. Items then freeze when leaving those chunks. When you go into overworld, all the items at the chunk border flow over the filter at once. Also, this item filter has overflow protection, so neighboring slices dont affect each other.

since the bartering farm sends through items through the portal, the overworld gets loaded for short (this is how chunk loaders work). the items definitely don't fall all at once but get sorted gradually. :)

The item stream is pretty constant when the machine is on, and the portal load time is 15s for each new item. It could contribute to the issue if you keep turning it on and off, but it's not likely the issue. More likely is the loaded chunks don't include the quartz filters.

By putting extra filter rotten flesh in that quartz filter, you're removing the overflow protection, so if it does ever get full, the signal will bleed into the adjacent filters. Probably not going to happen, but just something to keep in mind.

Yea bartering farms are crazy. I have 3 modules with 32 piglins in each one to handle the speed of an observer clock and there's so much stuff that I just burn most of it away. He def should be using double hopper speed filters though 😅

FYI, nether portals load a 3x3 grid of chunks around them when any entity passes through, including items. That's how chunk loaders work. :) If the items go out of the 3x3 grid, they'll be put into storage and start moving all in once once the area is loaded i.e. a player comes along. That might be why there are so many items at the end of the ice line at once overloading the hopper. You can plop down an extra chunk loader to fix that. End portals don't load chunks afaik Also, don't switch the item filters so that there is only one quartz, I'm pretty sure that will make it so the filter can break the ones next to it.

you know, there's a reason for why you put 42 of the filtered item instead of blocker items. Pretty sure that if you have only 1 and a whole stack comes in at once, it will produce higher redstone signal and break the filters next to it.

you need the filter to contain the 41 quartz instead of 41 rotten flesh, that's what makes the filter "overflow proof" this way even if the quartz gets to 64 the signal will not reach the redstone torches from adjacent filters. You can probably fine tune it to the maximum value of rotten flesh that doesn't overflow with 64 quartz but i am not sure it will be that much of a difference

Putting more Filter items will break your sorter (this 42 rotten flash + stack of quartz, it will create stronger signal which will affect filters at the right. And please check chunks boundaries - item passing the portal will load 3x3 area around, so if your sorter is bigger you need extra chunk loader.

10:10 an item or mob going through a portal loads a 3x3 chunk grid on the other side for 15 seconds. It also loads a few chunks lazily around that, but the 3x3 is fully loaded and has items and redstone processing.

The Quartz is failing because of how chunk loading works with nether portals. When an item goes through, it only loads that chunk and the ones around it. Your quartz filter is likely just past the loaded chunks. It might be good to ask Doc for help, as he understands the mechanics really well.

DON‘T change the filters to 41 filters in the front… otherwise when it backs up up to the filter you will start stacking the filtered item and the signal strength gets stronger which will unlock the nearby filters…

Hey Iskall! Be careful about putting in 41 filter items in your sorter, if you get lots of items flowing through it will break the system by outputting a redstone signal of greater than 3 and destroyer all the neighboring filters :) And although I can't say for sure, it's possible that those quartz items are picking up a lot of speed and just buzzing by the last few filters faster than they can pick up items

The problem with the quartz is that the item filter breaks when you put items in that only stack to 16, you should look at them as seperate systems. You need to leave a gap on both sides of the sorter an put 2 filter items in the second slot of the hopper that's sorting the items. I recommend putting the ender pearls last, and at least 2 seperate item sorters both of them can't be connecte to annother item sorter. Hope thi fixes your problems

Assuming the entire system is being properly loaded by the portal, the issue with the quartz filter is you only placed a single item for the filter. In certain edge cases as the new item comes it in powers the comparator for long enough to let two items through the hopper destroying the filter in the process. Next time you use SS3 filters just add a couple items to the filter when setting them. If the storage is too long for the portal to chunk load it consider using 2x hopper speed filters they are just 2 more hoppers for double the speed!

Iskall when items go through portals they load a 3*3 chunk area centred on the chunk in which the nether portal is. So when items come through they are sorted perfectly by the initial hoppers but the ones at the end like the quartz and pearls get piled up. They get loaded when you go through and then there are so many stacks that the hoppers get overloaded and hence they are missed

I 100% guarantee the issue with the quartz filter is the ender pearls. I had the exact same issue in my own sorting system. As you said: ender pearls are "weighted" 4x because they only stack to 16, so if you ever get more than 3 (or in your case, 10+3 = 13) in the filter at a time, the Hopper signal strength goes up to 5 and allows the adjacent filters to open. This goes to one other point: *Absolutely do not* put 44 rotten flesh into the filter with 1 quartz. If you do, then if the quartz ever DOES get backed up to high enough levels, it will cause the exact same problem the ender pearls are causing. (The signal strength will temporarily go to 5 and open/break the adjacent filters).

I've got an item filter I designed that uses minecart with hopper instead, 4x faster. But it might only work on bedrock. Have the minecart with hopper below the ice path for items, on top of an activator rail on top of a hopper. Have a fence or wall block to the side of this hopper, with a redstone torch above it, facing to the side, so it is leaning toward the minecart from here, make a regular sorting system, but put your items into the hopper minecart instead 4x speed sorter :)

In terms of most powerfull farms in the game, bartering is certainly up there, toghether with Witch Farms, Raid Farms, and Villager Traders if you want to count that.

6:13 Bartering is OP for sure. I think there are a few farms that give it a run for it's money though. For example Gnembon's afk fish farm, large "simple" mob farms and super raid farms all produce a variety of items at fast rates.

I believe you have to have a 1 block gap on the ender-pearl filter (on each side so the dust on this filter is isolated), with one of the 4 filter stacks having 2 items instead of just one (Hopper: [P][2][1][1][1]). The gap prevents comparator signal bleed to adjacent filters because of the different signal weight on items that only stack to 16. Also yes you could put 4 stacks of 11 (or is it 10? I forget) into the filter slots and only 1 item and be able to grab 63 items instantly, but again now your filters need a gap between them, or you'll have redstone bleed between them from the stronger comparator signal which will wreck every filter down the line...

on the subject of the item filter. your system is overloading. As in hoppers are getting to many items and the comparators are putting out a signal that's to strong. This is causing other hoppers to let out items. What you need is a flow limiter. Colect all the items into chest at fists then let them out using a dropper. This will bring your to 100% effency, but will slow you down alot.

I think the last major project you were working on before you took your break from Hermitcraft last year in November was BART! I am so delighted to see you work on it again. Awesome episode. I love watching you work on and figure out redstone. Also, I'm sure you know now from your comments but Phase 4 of Decked Out isn't over yet! The Dungeon was shut down temporarily for Tango to go on vacation. It opens back up again tomorrow morning (October 11 in Tango's timezone less than 12 hours from now (probably around your 8-9pm tonight) and it continues on like normal until Sunday at which point Phase 5 will start. So you have plenty of shards to use this Phase! Maybe a cheeky little livestream this week? ;) I mean, if you want 4k to 8k viewers, that is. :P

What a fun episode! I've been liking your decked out runs, but it's nice to see something from the ~old times~ Question: could you solve the issue with the Bart portal overlapping with the entrance portal by putting a new nether portal further away on that same end of the tube that you tried already? If you'd had the storage system flipped, the portal you were using would have still been a little ways away from the space station storage area, so putting a new portal with a hallway to the storage room might be easier or feel better than the current setup. Again, fun to watch you problem-solving, thanks for sharing the fun you have on Hermitcraft!

You have quartz at the end bc your farm creates too many items for the filters you have. Filling them with 1/41/1/1/1 will cause overflows. You need to either loop them around or add more slots per item.
