I think episodes should be as long as you want them to be! I found this episode to be fascinating, and enjoyed it regardless of the length! I thought you had storage solved with your previous system already - it's crazy just how much better things can get when you keep thinking about it! I'm glad you enjoyed coming up with the redstone, and I can't wait to see what comes of this!

I personally feel like shorter and longer episodes both have their place. Sometimes, its really nice to just have a quick 15 minute video to relax to. Other times, you may be itching to binge watch longer videos just to kill time. I'd say do whatever format you enjoy the most, because regardless we'll enjoy watching it.

Xisuma, I am happy for any content of any length that suits your schedule and well-being. Make the video the correct length for the subject matter. For example, Cleo usually has 15-20 minute video but it is wonderful that they have put a 1:40 video out for blood on the clock tower. we needed to see the game in it's full glory

Episode-length was perfect btw. It felt like you said everything that needed to be said about the subject, without adding time just to add time. At the end of the episode, I was like: "oh, already ended?", because I hadn't looked at the time at all, because you kept me captivated throughout the whole video. So please try this in more videos =)

If the shorter episodes feel a more free flow of the creative juices, I'm all for it. Being able to focus on a subject and let some stuff go to the background (maybe vrief glimpses like in this vid) means you'll have more time for your musical endeavors, which is another bonus to you and to all of us!!

Shorter episodes work really well! Convenient for viewers, less time/pressure/work for you, and it allows for frequent community engagement even if you haven’t amassed 20-30+ minutes of final product. It’s also sometimes nice to have something laser focused. Big builds/collabs like bed wars make sense as much longer episodes if there’s a lot you want to share, and little tidbits like this make sense as much shorter episodes. Length that suits the content is definitely better than content drawn out to or squished into a specific length. I don’t know if the KZbin algorithm will be punishing for variation, but your active subscribers aren’t relying on it anyway. Thanks for the vid and for being so engaged with your community!

I feel like we missed out on interactions with the other hermits in this episode. As MC ages, I find that the multiplayer aspect is the part that keeps bringing me back. Sharing your progress and builds with others makes the game more fun than it otherwise ever could be. This specific but if progress with a mod didn’t exactly lend itself to sharing, as the others can’t see your resource pack, but perhaps you could have used that to perform a bit of magical voodoo by telling hermits what is in their shoulder box, like you did with Ren in the short.

I think the icons on the shukerbox are large enough to split it into 2 or 4 most common items in the box for it to be more usable and intricate (like the storage drawer mod but bigger icons and no borders for max size).

Honestly I really like the episode length - or rather not that it's shorter but that it's focussing only on what you're wanting to share, without you feeling the need to pad out to reach the 20 min mark. 15 mins here was great because it was exactly what you wanted to share & was a little more focussed

Also, the important thing is that you don't burn yourself out with perpetually rising self-expectations, X. Being a content creator isn't just the 'what you do', it's the extensive video editing too. Considering the "playing Minecraft and talking over it" part is when you're having the most fun. Serious suggestion: consider hiring a video editor so you can focus on the enjoyable part of your job and not the considerably more arduous one. Burnout (and imposter syndrome) is the ultimate enemy of the content creator, so whatever effectively manages it is both a good investment and a good personal decision.

I really like the concept of episodes with ONE focus VS a specific time limit achieved because if I want to go back and reference one of your videos to build, say, this storage system or listen to you explain it, I can easily find the video instead of trying to remember which episode you touched on it within other content (scrolling through the video time // trying to find the time stamp // etc)

I think a shorter episode which focuses purely on the title is perfectly fine. That being said, don't be scared to put in random things, especially if something cool happened. I think episodes should be as long as is needed to convey what you want them to. Keeping it shorter, rather than trying to get some ,,filler'' footage in to reach a certain length is preferable, but if you need an hour to get your message across, go ahead and take an hour. We'll still watch. I really enjoy your content, as it's a good mix of redstone, technical things and building, as well as hermit interactions and shenanigans. I also appreciate you taking us through your creative process and explaining what you do and why. You may not be as good a builder as Scar or as good at redstone as Doc (don't take this as an insult, please, you're still amazing at both), but it's your versatility and the way you talk to your audience that makes you my favourite hermit. Just keep being you and we'll be here, watching every video. PS: Your album is amazing.

I definitely love the quality of videos where the content creator isn't forced to align with a time frame because it gives the content creator a better creative mindset where they don't feel like they have to meet a video criteria, but focus more on the raw will of their mind. I used to think I was indulging on nestolgia by preferring older minecraft let's plays but now I realize is back then youtube didn't require a video to be a certain length and content creators didn't care much about a certain video length or schedule. Idk I'm not saying that your current method is bad but just consider the benefits of having your mind work on its own free will rather than being forced into a schedule or criteria

It's pained me for years that vanilla minecraft doesn't show what the most popular item in a storage block is, to the point that I can't play without mods any more. I'm hoping for a future update to be called, 'The Storage Update' that addresses this, improves the inventory system too, if not capacity, then at least QoL tweaks such as inventory sorting and click dragging items between invetory and storage.

going back through these older eps looking for the underlying philosophy behind the mass storage system as it relates to the ender chest storage scheme. really interested in seeing how you've refined this for HCX. I'm becoming more interested in the difference in philosophies between you and Etho on this. His 'endless storage system' plan to auto prepare shulkers for his system vs presenting materials to a temporary storage wall for manual filling that I think is implied here (using the grey shulker wall to hold things being refilled for the enderchest, afaict).

That texture pack looks very cool! If I may suggest an improvement: i would add a white stroke (outline) around the item on the shulker box, this way no matter what the contrast difference between the color of the item and the color of the box, the item would still be easily identified (it is a bit difficult for stone on grey shulker for example). Now the color of that stroke should probably be selected using the complementary color for each of the shulkerbox color.

In a future season it could be interesting to make a shop that is just a shulker organiser. For hermits that haven't put all of this thought into item sorting. Like, they take their shulker monster, put it into the shop along with a few diamonds and then come back later and are given their shulkers back but sorted.

I like your new concept of making each episode as long as the job you're doing. Every episode doesn't have to be cram packed with excitement, chaos and 10 different things going on. Take it easy. Whatever makes you happy will reflect on your work and make your fans/audience happy in turn.
@DJDroz-gh5nt
@DJDroz-gh5nt 9 ай бұрын
The obvious answer to the log/bark block problem is to use the top texture for the log. You could make a system that sorts out raw metal and food into blast furnaces and smokers respectively with the overflow going into regular furnaces, this'll make your auto smelter more efficient. Of course since you have farms for copper, gold, and iron you probably don't need the blast furnace section unless you want to smelt armor and tools which would need an allay sorter.

3:03 - Seems useful but I don't really like the look of it personally. I think what I'd really like is just more options for decorating (and visually distinguishing) shulker boxes: Show the box's name when I'm looking at it. Let me color the two halves of the shulker box separately. Let me use a wider palette of colors, like with leather armor. Let me use smithing templates (without consuming the template?) on shulker boxes to add a second color and a pattern. Those kinds of options would give me plenty of options for distinguishing between different shulker boxes that would otherwise be indistinguishable. Instead of having a white box and wondering whether it's iron or quartz or diorite or bone, or a red box and wondering whether it's redstone or nether wart or granite or TNT.

You could accomplish the same thing without all the extra network traffic. When a shalker is closed, pick the appropriate item and put that in the database on the level of the shalker. That way you don't have to constantly send the content. For lag reasons I'd also not update it when interacting with a hopper. Maybe first item in and last item out depending on how the hooks affect performance.

I really hope some of the storage solutions make its way into vanilla. It's always so tedious to set something up that is efficient.

The shorter episodes are easier to watch more casually and I think that is a pretty good way to introduce new people to hermitcraft without them having to watch a longer video

One suggestion is to have the armor stands be in the four corner blocks of a 3x3 section of floor (not sure if it's possible due to compactness of design). If you can , then have the 4 armor stands have their hands up to a shulker box floating down from above. Could be a great focal point with the right lighting. As far as epsode length goes it really all depends on what the episode is about If the video is entertaining no one really minds on it's length. An entertaining short video can just make waiting for the next video that much harder while an entertainning or even information longer video can be a great diversion during a day/night.
