For the horse races, it would be really cool to have a “death race” type of game mode, with bows, lava, and pit falls where you want to get first and survive. If players go into it knowing they could easily lose that horse, it would stop players from using their best horses, keeping competition close, most of all increasing profits from the horse shop and creating demand for horses with high hearts! I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, thank you Etho!

Gonna add other horse kart ideas to this comment: - Have targets near the same spot so you can activate redstone obstacles ahead or behind the racer, letting them "target" other racers near them. Now spitball ideas: - slowness lingering potion trap to be used on someone taking a shortcut-- high jump counters this. - short, 4 high elevated roads which could be blocked by honey block piston tapes - soul sand piston tape - fence trap, catching people who don't jump quickly - crossbows equipped with slowness arrows or fireworks - speed 2 lingering potions in item form -Tactical axolotls - because that's just funny - pufferfish - a section of the course where you may have to wade through water

Mario Kart blue shell (slowness potion) idea: Track the first place player’s position with pressure plated checkpoints. The redstone system will “know” the first place player is somewhere between the last activated checkpoint and the subsequent unactivated checkpoint. So when the “blue shell” gets triggered (by a player), the subsequent unactivated checkpoint will splash the first place player with slowness when they pass through it. Bonus if when the “blue shell” is activated a note-block tune plays, and tnt explodes, to give a more dramatic feedback to the players. I like how the “blue shell effect” in Mario Kart helps slower players catch up. It adds an element of chance to the game so that the most skilled player doesn’t always win.

Either that or just have a handy cap and a not so handy cap. If the course is meant to be run once each time, have the pressure plates interspersed throughout the course whereby they will give a splash potion of slowness to the first player, then set up a system where it counts the players (Items in Hoppers) which gives the last player a boost of speed with a potion of swiftness.

For example, when a player passes through a checkpoint they would receive a positive potion effect, a loaded crossbow, or a chance of inflicting a player ahead of them with a negative effect (like the blue shell idea from above).

Tbh, I think the Blue Shell in MK is quite useless. You can only get it in the last view places and effectively it will only effect the front 3 maybe 5 players. Items like the Rocket or the Super Star are much more useful for catching up. But that's not your point

Try making a "dynamic" course. An example might be a sand wall that is sometimes 1 block high sometimes maybe up to 4 high. This way a speedy horse might not always have an advantage over a high jumper.

What if you could also change those things by hitting targets or the like too? Somebody's far ahead, (or gaining on you) and you know they've got a bad jumping horse, you can aim for that mechanism and throw some walls up in their face; a good jumping horse can just bounce right over them but a bad one is gonna lose a lot of time going around them bonus points if things like that are on a randomizer/timer/checkpoint system and reroll their state periodically too

If you are going to have a chance to get arrows.. Make it a chance between a swiftness and a slowness arrow... You could either use the swiftness on you or hit the opponent in a section of the map where speed hurts.. Or hit them with the slowness to catch up.. Do they have blindness arrows?? Because that would be pure gold.. Idk Maybe I am crazy..

I was just going to suggest slowness arrows, but making speed hurt would be an awesome touch, too. Blindness would probably have to be rarer though, since it stops you from really being able to shoot targets.

For the horse-course-of-course: use walls to prevent someone from shooting the targets as they get too close (iron bars would work well there as you can see them as you go past and adjust for next lap). Could have trip wires high up to reward a good jump in some places, or a parkour bit with a pressure plate. And just plain pressure plates on the track, possibly with lights showing a sequence ahead of you. Challenge reward ideas: - Easier ones would just do a double piston extender behind you to create a smaller jumping barrier for 10-30 seconds - *drop* a lingering potion of slowness just ahead of you so that you can throw it where it would hurt the others the most. - shoot a jump potion on you so that you can take a 4.5 block shortcut, or would retract a piston at the top of the jump to do the same thing without the consumable. - Slow falling for long jumps - night vision for a dark cave shortcut - Size 1 slimes could be collected and fired into the track by slime block piston. Obstacle ideas: - Water buckets could be dispensed on a timer in a "swamp" section to create a path that shifts about. - Snowball cannon could make a narrow shortcut bridge a dangerous risk, especially since everyone will have snowballs and can try and knock you down as they see you take the shortcut. - "Invisible" jumps with tripwires that hit you with slow arrows if you fail it. - Slow pits with soul sand or honey blocks. While risking losing a horse would make the pitstop feel more comparable to a F1 races pitstop I think it might be worth using a regen beacon to prevent peoples favourite horses from dying from being hit by too many arrows and such, could still use a pitstop by using command blocks to keep track of a score and going into a pitstop would reset that instead. Like force them to dismount and run in a low tunnel to get the score reset.

Ooh, maybe a target block that triggers a pit opening farther ahead on the course, and opens an alternate path? The pit wouldn't be lethal or anything, but maybe it could have honey blocks for the ground and a ramp at the end so you can get out, but it just takes a second. Like a catch-up mechanic for the person at the back.

Etho. There's a command on the server to make item frames invisible. I think you should use it on your conrol panel so the redstone lamps are more visible.

I agree with this, but at the same time I think Etho is what we call “old school” and doesn’t like this sort-of “cheating” in the sense he doesn’t like abnormal Minecraft things (such as the talk in the episode about candles and lateens and only having so many choices) I feel like the invisible item frames is for those “I’m here for looks” you tubers like Pearl, Grian, And Scar.
