My idea for vanilla implementation for "shadow tech" is two-fold: a new ender storage item that can be accessed by any player, but is used for a new enchantment: Item Warp. Any item broken by a tool with Item Warp would automatically be transferred to your storage container. To bind a tool to a storage container, right-click the container with your tool with some sort of particle to confirm the connection.

Yeah, that idea sounds good but gotta make it difficult to obtain or it wouldn't be very cool. Either make it an extremely rare loot chest find, perhaps rarer than finding stone diamond ore or deepslate emeralds, or make it craftable from the drop or a combination of drops from difficult to kill bosses. Maybe the dragon egg and nether star could be part of the crafting recipe. It could give another use for some low-use items in minecraft. Perhaps they could change the warden loot table to include another drop with a low chance to actually drop that could go into the crafting recipe.

29:22 Xisuma showed a shulker enchantment mod, which I think has the most "vanilla" feel to it! I mean, I'd love to have an entire storage type mod so I don't have to build a MIS every world, and could have access wirelessly to it all, but I think shulker box enchantments wich can auto supply or put items into them when in your inventory would work perfect with vanilla minecraft.
@nisseheim4996
@nisseheim4996 Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. The question is then how rare to make the enchantment. It should feel like end game content you have to work for. Maybe even make it more involved, like having to craft a more advanced box first(with a netherite ingot and an echo shard for example) and having only that enchantable.
@matthewparker9276
@matthewparker9276 Жыл бұрын
If they do introduce it, it would probably be exclusive to end cities, which does mean that you need to raid end cities for skylines the best shulker boxes, instead of just once to start a farm. Shulker farms would still be useful for bulk storage and the like, and you'd just have a few enchanted shulker boxes for building, etc.

@@dylanb2990 I think that some things should be grindy, then accomplishing them gives a greater sense of achievement. But I don't think my suggestion was overly grindy. You need to travel to end cities to get your first shulkerbox anyway, and you don't need excessive amounts of enchanted shulkerboxes if you don't use them for storage (use unenchanted ones instead). If the enchantments were 2-4 times more common than elytra, that would be plenty. But it's not perfect, and large multiplayer servers would probably like a large supply of them, especially servers like scicraft or hermitcraft with their megaprojects.

@@Vallarthis I'm also a German native speaker, and to me it does stand out that he always uses they/them instead of him or her for Doccy. Although you are correct, the German word for child (das Kind) and baby (das Baby) both have a neuter article. But this doesn't mean that you don't use _er_ or _sie_ (him or her) when talking about the child. Only when you talk about _the child_ you would use neuter, but if you are talking about the child using their name for example and then refer to that, you would use _er_ or _sie_ (he or she). For example: Das Kind ist 18 Monate alt. _Es_ kann schon laufen. (The Child is 18 months old. It can already walk) Here, I used _es_ (neuter), because I am referring to _Kind_ , which has a neuter article. The same way you use _it_ in English in the second sentence. Hans ist 18 Monate alt. _Er_ kann schon laufen. (Hans is 18 months old. _He_ can already walk.) Now I used _er_ (male) because Hans, as a Person, has a male pronoun. Once again, it's basically the same in English. Because Doc made up the name Doccy for his child, even in German you would need to use either male or female. (Actually there is no way to get around that, as something like they/them does not exist in German. You would have to say _er oder sie_ (he or she). Doccy ist 18 Monate alt. Er oder sie kann schon laufen. (Doccy is 18 months old. He or she can already walk.) As you can see, I had to use _Er oder sie_ (he or she), as there is no neutral way to refer to a person without using either male or female. In theory we could start doing it the same way it is done in English with the third person plural, but that does not exist (yet). It would solve a lot of issues, though, as there is currently a lot of debate about how to gender correctly.

29:13 Echo pouches and echo boxes They'ed be crafted using echo shards and a bundle and echo shards and a shulkerbox respectively. It'd give echo shards more uses in the game and even be lore friendly. You'd link an echo pouch to an echo box by shift right clicking one with the pouch. Then anything you've put in the box would be picked up by the bundle. You could use items through the bundle as long as they have a right click functionality. To delink a pouch you shift rightclick the echo box again. You can open a pouch by shift right clicking in the air or something and that way you can configure what the linked box picks up. If you want to close the pouch and stop it from picking up any more items then you can normally right click it to the echo box. This can also work with just the echo pouch being linked to any singular container.
@sambuma
@sambuma Жыл бұрын
I had the same thought of using echo shards since they're new and only useful for recovery compasses so far. I was thinking in terms of how doc was using the shadow tech to add "echo hopper" and "echo chest" which would probably be crafted similarly to the compass by just surrounding the item with shards. Echo hopper would operate like the super sucker and echo chest like the "poppy technology" to replenish items.

@ack7956 Жыл бұрын
@@achingkibb1es386 That feels like a modded recipe. It would be much more sensible to just use 8 sculk catalysts around the given item, or the echo shards. They're both found in one of the hardest areas of the game, a very endgame location despite being in the overworld, and the echo shards can only be found in a rare structure on top of that. Besides, the dragon egg is a unique item, you can only obtain one per world, which would be fine in single player but completely unusable in servers unless they dupe the egg. You also have to keep in mind that it's entirely possible to make it far too expensive to even be worth it when you could just use an elytra to fly back and forth, since creeper farms and sugar cane farms are absurdly easy to make.
@achingkibb1es386
@achingkibb1es386 Жыл бұрын
@ack7956 it was just an idea but if everyone had it all the time it would just not be that cool. I thought that they just had a setting on the server to have only one egg. I have never defeated the ender dragon in Java or on PC in general. Shadow tech is extremely powerful and would change the game meta completely if it was to commonplace. But I still think it should be crafted from boss drops of some kind, and I assumed that you got a new egg every fight but the end dimension makes the most sense for a relationship to the Shadow tech. Also a few mod's features have been integrated into minecraft since its inception.
@ack7956
@ack7956 Жыл бұрын
@@achingkibb1es386 Maybe an idea is to make 8 of a new item, each one using a chorus flower/sculk catalyst, four popped chorus fruits and four echo shards, that way it integrates things from the major end game locations. And the sculk catalysts are very rare to find naturally, the easiest way to obtain them is killing currently the hardest boss in the game, the warden, so using sculk catalysts is ABSOLUTELY an end-game thing which few people could really do, honestly it's way too expensive to do, why bother if you could just use a bunch of shulker boxes? You're overestimating the fact that it's purely a convenience thing for the user, it's not necessarily something extremely overpowered.

You could create locked and unlocked ones as well, where locked ones would be specific to the player, while unlocked ones would be global. Locked chests wouldn't interact with other systems, while unlocked ones could interact with other systems. In this system players could have multiple personal ender chest inventories instead of the just the one. Additionally it allowed sending items across decent distances for use by machines etc. I realise it would probably need to be tweaked for vanilla and could/should probably work differently but I think the ideas could be used as a referene point for a potential replacement for shadow tech. To me a cool way to implement “shadow tech’” would be via a rework of the “bundle” item that they wanted to implement (but had issue with) this could be made via echo shards (the thing you get in the deep dark). It would require two parts : - the “echo/void bundle” witch has only one item slot -the “echo/void anchor” witch is a block that you put on top of a chest and right click with your echo bundle to link them together. Then put a block type in the echo bundle (like sand for example) and when you pickup sand while holding the echo bundle either on offhand or in the hotbar (depending on what feels good/balanced) all the sand block would be transferred to the chest under the echo anchor, for balancing purposes you should only be able to link one echo bundle per player at a time but can freely link your echo bundle to whatever anchor you want, just one at a time (just to get around having ppl playing with 20 bundles all sending items across the world to their base and all) hope ppl find this at least interesting :x

I was going to post on this same line of thought. Add hopper support for the anchor item/chest and you can link that to your storage. The question would be how much can the anchor store or if it would also load the area the anchor is in so a bulk storage system works as intended for shadow tech, without needing a chunk loader. The problem of needing a chunk loader is that it makes this more complex for light users. I know there are many tutorials to build one, but that's not an intended mechanic, it's not a bug (I think) it's more of an exploit. if the point is to make shadow tech vanilla, the chunk loader side of the equation should be integrated into the solution. The possible problem with a block/chest that allows more storage than current options could fall into stability issues. If the anchor chest is too good, ppl will prefer it to normal chests/double chests. So if it's really good, it would need to be expensive to compensate. To explain the extra space in a 'single' inventory maybe instead of a large natural storage capacity, the anchor chest could link with adjacent anchor chests in the same way normal chests do to make double chests, up to say a 3x3x3, up to 27 chests worth of bulk storage should be enough for most players. And if you need more and these have hopper support. Now you can redstone +chunk load your way beyond this, a player on that level can do so. Now the shadow tech works 2 ways, to bring stuff home, and to carry way more than normal capacity with you, whether it's for rockets or for building blocks. I would say if it's in your inventory/hotbar it's in gather mode and if it's in a hand it's in use/place mode. In this 'mode' if the content is an item, it would be used as if you had that item in your hands instead of the bundle. So fire off a rocket, eat a cookie, etc. Or place whatever block it was configured to act as. It could have different skins in each mode to show what's it doing. Like the Bundle shows a cookie in it's opening, means you can eat the cookie. But in the inventory/hotbar it'll show the cookie being dragged in by a whirlpool. Alternatively it could be two different one-way bundles. With slightly different crafting like droppers/dispensers To explain material-wise maybe a combination of echo shards and ender pearls/eyes,plus leather or phantom membrane for the bundle and some other 'solid' material for the anchor chest instead the last one. The echo chard would symbolise the link/mirroring while the other the already established space manipulation. If it must be expensive, maybe netherite is a nice choice. This is after all, a end game or even post-game item. Netherite would be nice, if it gives the anchor the same fireproof protection tools get.

@@voidphilosopher42 to me the anchor block wasn’t a chest per say, it was more “the thing that put items into storages” than “the thing that store items itself”. The chuck loading problem is for sure a real issue with this tech and making the first comment I thought the anchor could act as a chunk loader for the time the items are transferred to the chest under the anchor (also making this tech’ not that broken bc you effectively have a double chest worth of shadow tech bc the anchor wouldn’t charge the chunk long enough for items to pass through hopper that would be connected to the chest from witch the items are imported through the anchor. This could also make the upgrade of making a chunk loader even better in end game cauz ppl could build one and expand their shadow tech’ possibilities without a major redesign of the system). Little side-note on why i think Mojang didn’t (and won’t) implement a chunk loading “universal base mechanic” with a block or a system but are totally fine with chunk loader as we do them for years is specifically due to the complexity/knowledge that is required to use one. As an example, imagine that ppl could craft a “chunk loader block” a lot of ppl would use them all over the place without realizing that it could be veeeery taxing on your computer, and we would see countless forums posts about “why do i have 10 frames since the new update” or whatever, it’s a “”kids”” game after all ^^ Last this that i didn’t talked about was the “one wayness” of what i posted about bc i really think that giving to the player the ability to take blocks AND place them with this tech is really too broken for it to be healthy for the game but that’s just my opinion on the subject and i very well be wrong about it. A simple fix for this could be to implement it as a one way thing in the first place and see if the player base would want it to be also the other way around.

If they ever get around to implementing Bundles, it might be funny to have a late-game upgrade for the bundle that just has infinite storage space for one specific item. Call it an Enderbundle or something. It might automatically pick up items of the correct type, and allow you to take out one stack at a time.
@theSeerofThought
@theSeerofThought Жыл бұрын
Personally I always really wanted something like the opposite of a bundle, so instead of a bunch of single items in a single slot you got a little bag that's almost like a low level Dank Null or storage drawer that holds like an entire double chest of a single type of item, it can be placed down for storage systems and can automatically pick up items from your inventory and when held in the hand you can place said item until the bag is empty. The biggest problem of shadow technology I see is that it requires a chunk loader at the location your Sending it too for it to work and honestly I think that will make the game lag a lot if everyone starts setting those up, but since the best use of shadow technology is just mass storage of a single item, like rockets or sand then that can be solved without dealing with chunk loaders and would make a great alternative/ side grade to Shulkers, You get more storage and utility BUT you can only keep a single item in it. Perfect solution in my opinion

You mentioning it was too wet last year reminds me of the one tomato plant I ever grew. Setting: US Pacific Northwest. My patio was beautiful, with a creek out back which herons, otters, and salmon would frequently travel through. Best of all, full sun from midmorning to sunset. And yes, there was sun. Particularly for 3 months in summer with sunrise around 4am and good light until 10pm or later. Seattle earns it's rep in an unofficial rainy season in the spring, where you might drive to work and back in complete darkness and it is frequently pouring, nearly daily. But for 6 months there is some sun, partly cloudy often and it is damp. soggy, mushy, no actual rain, piddly precipitation you can hardly even call drizzle. just musty, moldy, dank dampness. Enter me: grew up in the temperate midwest with "normal" seasons. I decided to try growing some tomatoes. Huge pot like you'd grow trees in, and got a full sized wire cage and everything. The vines grew and grew and it was wonderful. It reached 7 feet, spilling out over the cage and had to be tied up along the roof line. So many rich green healthy leaves. The plant was taking over the porch with all it's lushness. Problem. The damp conditions were great for growth, but not for propagating fruits. The thing barely even tried to make any tomatoes. Maybe 3? Two were barely larger than a shelled almond. One solitary tomato ever grew to a size worthy of being called a tomato. It was dark green and solid and just a bit larger than an unshelled walnut when it began to rot on the vine. And that is the story of the most glorious tomato vine to never produce a tomato. 🍅 Edit: I said cherry tomatoes originally, but that doesn't work with the size I remember the tomatoes being. I think the next year I tried cherry thinking maybe aiming for a smaller size they'd have a chance of making it. Nope. I don't think the vines did as well in general and they didn't even try to make tomatoes.

29:00 A vanilla way to do it would be using nether tech. We already have netherchests that share their inventory. So some way to have a nether bag that provides a new row of slots, each slot will have a color, which are synced with a 1 slot remote container of equal color (which in turn can be interacting with hoppers that connect with normal chests). This would mean that you could have 9 different nether containers at home (1 of each color) synced with the 9 slots of your netherbag (visible extra row when you open your inventory). If nethercontainers and netherbags can be crafted or if they need to be found/earned in the world, that is up to mojang. :)

I mean. The best implementation of "shadow technology" is basically ender chests from modded minecraft. The ones that can interact with hoppers. They have basically the same functionality while being put in a form that is not a bug. But ofc it can be too OP or feel too modded for a lot of people. May be Mojang should make some sort of ender bundle alongside with regular bundles that can push OR pull into a bound inventory from far away. But this looks like basically the same idea. The shadow tech felt so cool because of the huge inventory issues in the game I think. Maybe they should try fixing those and look if they'll need to implement shadow tech at all? Or the original shadow tech won't be so OP in the whatever new system they make so they will just bring it fully back just in more polished form.

Having unique "ender hoppers" might help to make it feel more vanilla, maybe made with 5 echo shards and an ender chest. 29:00 Docm77 shadow functionality in vanilla: I think it would make a good enchantment for tools, where you can assign a chest to a tool with the enchantment by clicking on it with the tool, and the last chest activated in this way would be where blocks broken by that tool would go instantly upon breaking, until the chest was full and then the block would pop out as normal. Advanced implementation that would take a bit more from the performance would be to also temporarily load the chunk with the chest in order to allow the chest to be unloaded.
@Fyrefrye

I think from a balancing point it needs to be more complex than an enchantment. I added my own comment already, but I think it should somehow be tied to the end chest itself. We already have one dimension-hopping-omnipresent-inventory in game, we just need a new way to fill and access it. I suggested dragon scales from the end dragon that would be used like netherite to make a new type of augmented tools.

This allows for the feeling of mastery as well as offering more gameplay consistency.

For me the best and most feasible alternative to shadow technology would be to do something similar to the Ender storage mod. It could be considered an inventory/ender chest overhaul. E.g. only red, white,red, coloured ender chests and pouches will link together

@bsidethebox

I think the in-inventory "magnetic pouch" is the most likely suggestion to be implementable. An expensive & late game recipe; hopper (to indicate function) plus shulker (Two shells? Four shells and have it hold a double chest worth?) or pouch/bundle, if that ever gets implemented, plus echo shard or similar rare "catalyst"--could add magnetite or something as a rare ore. Or maybe a lodestone since it "attracts" a compass, seems reasonably on theme and is already established and suitably expensive and late-game. As a magnetic pouch, insert one, maybe two items in it that you want to "magnetize", hold in inventory, and if you walk over any matching items on the ground it'll bypass inventory and suck them into the "pouch" for you. Not quite as OP as poppytech, but retains enough of the quality of life benefits to be a valuable addition to anyone interested in mega building. If the recipe isn't ridiculously painful, a handful of auto-filling shulkers wouldn't deviate too far from current in game possibility (an inventory of shulkers that you set down and then run back and forth to fill manually) while still making the task far less painful (don't have to set them down and fill/empty/manage chaff items you don't want to gather). Expanding or linking the ender chest functionality would be the best vector I can think of for true poppytech transmission, but it IS pretty OP and perhaps borderline too-far-for-vanilla. If the Poppybox/Poppypouch only magnetizes one item, maybe the icon modifies to show that item as an overlay. If that happened, another function from poppytech could work as well-- that you can use/drop directly from the Poppybox without setting it down (box) or getting into it in the inventory screen(I'm assuming that's how the bundles were supposed to work?). Mouse over Poppybox in inventory to 'throw'; Poppybox in hotbar treats it as a stack of Whatevers (rockets, blocks for placement). Not sure how that'd work with dropping the actual pouch, or placing it if it were shulker based, though, since shift-clicking to put down would hobble it's use as a building tool because of overlap with sneak. :/

Regarding "Shadowtechnology", i am still on team color coded Ender Chests when ideas like this come up. I know that the devs don't like using mod ideas but this one would work just nice with vanilla: Enderchests can be color coded with three colors and the same colored chests are connected with each other. Add colored Enderbags that connect to the same network and there you have a Vanilla Minecraft compatible system that could enable having, for example, virtual unlimited sand. Just have such a chest connected to your sand silo with two yellow and one red as its color and have the corresponding bag with you. If you go collecting sand have a bag with the corresponding chest connected to your silos input with two yellow and one green. The colors are just examples and follow my system i always use with these chests. Green is input and red is output, you could color them as you please. One added feature would be if you play coop on a little server with your friends they can send you items from the basecamp to wherever you are right now and you can have a "mining" bag that lets you send home any loot or mining results right into your sorting system. And another thing, this could make some redstone machines much easier and much less laggy to build as you can skip the hopperlines. Only on large servers this could be a problem, but that i would leave as a problem for said large servers devs. ;)

Vanilla shadow technology implementation suggestions: 1: Enderchest type block that is expensive to craft but hoppers can interact with. Recipe could be something like the dragon egg placed on top of the end portal as a “crafting bench”. In the middle an enderchest, left a netherite block, right a guilded Blackstone, upper left a recovery compass, upper right a beacon, top a dragon head, bottom a stone diamond ore, bottom left a notch apple and bottom right a mob head. This would give you a set of two portal chests that only link to each other. They don’t work across dimensions, but so long as one is in your inventory any blocks picked up get deposited in the other one. Alternatively you can leave out the auto pickup in inventory and instead make it so that when you place it down it sucks in any items in a 15-20 block radius. 2: wandering trader type mob with a large inventory that you can give items and pay using emerald blocks to teleport and empty their inventory at a fixed location. Takes a certain amount of time for the trader to return based on the distance between the drop off point and your current location. Maybe 1 minute per 1000 blocks and an extra 1.5 minutes if crossing a dimension. A recovery compass, a loadstone and a notch apple would be crafted into a merchant hiring contract as an interface for the whole thing. 3: augment to the allay that lets them teleport. Blocks broken by special tools get picked up by the allays who then warp to the drop of note block (no matter how far away) once their inv is full. Maybe an amethyst shard surrounded by netherite ingots and an eye of ender as the augment for the allay and recovery compass shards for the tools.

Regarding "shadow tech"; if they got the bundle to function like a dank - where you can click with it to use it as a block, and where it can automatically pick things up - then that could be a vanilla workaround. For the autopickup, you could even put a restriction where it only works if it's in your hand (or off hand). Of course they would need to expand the bundle to hold, say, 6 slots (e.g. 6 stacks of the same block, or 6 tools, or 6 potions) to make it worthwhile. Even at 4 slots and dank-like functions it would still be a strong tool without being overpowered. The bundle was *almost* a great idea that just needs tweaking.

I present to you the "Ender Stream" Using the same trusted technology as the ender chest, the ender stream can stream items to and from the player. It comes in two parts: Part 1 works similar to a furnace where it has two separate item storage sections as well as the ability to feed items in and out of it. Part 2 is a handheld item that is linked to the storage. To use this you put one item in the top part of the storage, this will be the selected item. Then you can store or feed in the same type of item into the bottom section of the storage. Using the handheld item, it can place the blocks from storage which match the selected item you added. Alternatively you can feed items out of the storage so that when you hold the handheld device in your off hand, all items that match the selected item goes to storage. Extra bonus if the ender stream can be powered by redstone turning it into a chunk loader so all the hoppers can functions. This will function like an ender chest in the way that all of them have the same storage and selected item. This also means that you can only have one selected item active keeping this whole thing balanced. If you have multiple of them, only the first one that was powered by redstone will be active and be able to feed item in and out of it.

For your little one, mine is a year ahead. And one hint, get them a lefthand scissor as soon as you are sure that they are left handed. Our little one did not have a left hand scissor, and it frustrated him so much that he does not want to use one.

Shadow item: Would be great to just hook up a hopper to a ender chest, one for input, one for output. That way items can be teleported without having to transport shulker boxes and traveling back and forth. To make it more powerful maybe make the ender chest different colors

In regards to your request for shadow tech ideas, I present to you, the Ender Hopper! A toggleable 2-way hopper with only 1 slot to act as your filter block and to connect to an inventory slot of your choice. The toggle chooses either an in flow or an out flow. To deactivate the hopper, simply remove the filter item to remove the connection to your inventory slot.

Best vanilla way is ender chests and having a way to take out and insert items with redstone (maybe somehow personilized with ender-redstone).

I feel like ender chests would be the perfect way to implement "shadow technology" - specifically, a way to insert/extract items from an ender chest. Perhaps some kind of ender hopper, or even a multiblock like a conduit? With this, you can place items into your chest and they can be extracted elsewhere, perhaps with item filters and chunk loaders. I imagine it would be linked to whoever places the block, so that people can't just steal from players' chests. The major problem with this is that it would sacrifice some ability to use the ender chest for its main purpose of simple storage, but I feel this is a perfect drawback for an otherwise fairly overpowered feature.

For the shadow tech i think keeping it simple by adding a special copper hopper which you prime with one item of what you want transferred in each slot so you can have 5 item in each hopper and have the allay transfer items to that hopper. That way you only need to implement one new item to the game and use already existing game mechanics.

For shadow tech I think an ender pouch would be super cool. When you right click it in-hand you can place an item in it's inventory, which acts as a filter. Whenever you pick up items of that filter type it will be sent into the ender pouch. Then, when another ender pouch is placed in a chest, a hopper can remove items from the pouch. Also, a hopper going into a chest with an ender pouch will load items into of it if they match the filter. Then, items will come out of the pouch into any existing stacks in your inventory matching the filters, which gives you the capability to make self-filling stacks of items. These could maybe be crafted with an eye of ender in the middle, 5 leather in a hopper shape, and an echo shard or some other valuable item in the top middle. What do you think?

Two suggestions for a vanilla shadow tech implementation: 1: Suggestion for a one-way vanilla shadow tech: One of the devs in the tour video mentioned ender shovels. I think thats a nice idea. There could be Ender versions of each tool, so "Ender Shovel", "Ender Pickaxe", etc. It could also be an enchantment instead of a new type of tool. And also a new kind of Ender Chest, that can be linked to the Ender Tools. Let's call it "Warped Ender Chest" for now. Right clicking a Warped Ender Chest with a Ender Tool would link them. Then any block you break with an that tool would not drop as an entity into the world, but instead be placed in the linked chest. From there it could be extracted by hoppers and fed into a regular storage system. There could be drawbacks, like a chance for the block to be lost instead (and maybe multiple levels of the enchantment to reduce that chance, if its implemented as enchantment). 2: Suggestion for a two-way vanilla shadow tech: The Warped Ender Chest could also work as a two-way shadow tech. Right clicking one Warped Ender Chest with another Warped Ender Chest would link them both. Then they would act like two hoppers that point into each other. But instead of blocking it with redstone, it would require a redstone signal to push an item into the linked chest. So you could carry the second chest around, and could feed items into the first chest through a hopper pointing into it. You could place the second chest down, take items out, and have it refilled through the first chest. Or, you could have an unpowered Warped Ender Chest with an hopper below it that feeds into your storage system. Then you could place the second chest down, power it, and place items into it. That way you can remotely put items into your storage system.

One way I just thought of that they could implement shadow technology is by adding a portable vacuum/pouch that when you have it in your off hand filters items into a seperate dedicated storage space (like the end chest, but different). Sort of like the void bag in terraria but you can't pull items from it whenever (as that would be pretty op), but maybe there could also be a way to pump items out of your own end chest/void space, like having an altar or lodestone type block that binds to whoever right clicks it which you could place above a chest or a hopper to pull items (and this could be the only way you can remove items, so this doesn't become just a second end chest). Maybe another limitation you could add is having the storage space / hoover space only take stackable items and also have like 2 or 3 slots. I'm not sure how you could make this work the other way around though without making it super op, like infinite rockets and whatever. Maybe when you right click with the hoover it "ejects" / places any blocks or uses any items but only from the first slot or something

Little DocE left-handed…cool! My son was left-handed when he was pre-school….also really smart….too smart for his own good, it turned out. He was very observant, and determined to do stuff “the right way”. When he went to school and they started teaching writing, he tried to follow directions and observations “to the T”…..right-handed teacher, mostly right-handed classmates….he forced himself to be righthanded, wouldn’t listen to me….argued “this is the right way”. At a very critical time, when his brain was half “wired” for left-handedness, this right-handed flip in focus messed him up. Going forward, dyslexia became evident. This is the very reason forcing right-handed teaching was stopped, but what do you do about hard-headed students? Anyway, keep paying attention.

In regards to the shadow technology, I really liked what one of the developers said about it in your hermitcraft tour video with them. That it could be done with something like an endershovel. It could be crafted with two sticks and and eye of ender, or they could introduce ender shards that endermen drop which could also be used to craft an enderpick, or enderaxe and so on.

I don't think that would actually be much more convenient, if it just goes to your enderchest. You still have fairly limited room, and it can't be extended. If there was another chest type it would work with and include hopper support, there would be all sorts of issues relating to dupes or picking the right chest to insert the sand into. It would be a nightmare to develop.

Shadow technology could work with Allays, like they bring you items from and to your storage system. Maybe it could just pretend to bring the items (in a way that the items disappear from the chest and appear in them) because otherwise they would have to pathfind long distances in unloaded chunks and it would be a mess. But I definitely think Allays should have a use in item transportation, not just item sorting.

Shadow companion that binds to an inventory slot and hates change. Will use nearby items to restock or throw out excess. Redstone signal makes it "forget" what was in the inventory slot and imprint again when turned off.

The vanilla way could be an echo item frame\item. There was already possible bundle item to take other items in itself. So what if instead of 1 bundle you have an echo pair of bundles that can work with other mechanics such as hoppers.

for the Shadow tech: i think that something along the lines of an ender shulker box would be cool to have, it would work by having two linked shulkers that can be placed so when you load items in one it will appear in the other, it sounds more vanilla than something like a special slot in your inventory due to ender chests existing, it could also act like one (secure item storage) but it dont think its as necessary. you could craft it by surrounding a shulker box with something like purpur and then putting an eye of ender underneath the shulker or it can be treated like a limited resource like the elytra and could be found in end cities like the elytra.

For an implementation of shadow tech I would say add the ability to smelt echo shards into ingots that can craft tools; dev's choice of modifying an existing tool similar to netherite or crafting a completely new tool; and the ability to craft them into blocks that can make specialized chests that echo tools automatically link to for gathering purposes. This adds additional functionality onto an already "late game" content which makes them more desirable and makes the tech reachable, without being damaging to the ramp up process of new worlds.

The best implication of Shadow Tech I can think of is an enchantment: Ender enchantment or something. Make it found only in a rare place in the end. You can enchant any pickaxe/ shovel/ hoe/ axe. Right click a chest/ shulker/ hopper/ barrel and get to work. Any item gathered with the item will end up in the storage item that was right clicked.

have a 'shadow villager' and pay him emeralds or anything else he demands, to have up to X item duplicated from his own inventory : so you need to find the shadow villagers, find some that have a pleasing inventory, and you cant use that more than X time before the villager becomes useless or dies or becomes a hostile mob... so you cant really abuse the system or farm them endlessly. (and have them get 1 in X chances to appear only when converting a zombie villager, so the hidden igloo converting stations can be more useful and fun.) loved the tomato update btw!!
