@t1 it's both farmable and very common, but also a pain to build farms for and a pain to get in large amounts without a farm. so X gets the copper permit, makes the farm, a lot of people will buy copper because building your own copper farm is a lot of work EDIT: and with the new copper blocks that people no doubt want to use, it will sell a lot

The best analogy I've come up with for how copper ages is a school dance for kids aged 12-15. Like the kids at the dance, it takes a long time for that first copper block to move to the next stage of aging, and as more and more transition, it gets faster and faster until everyone catches up and then it starts all over again. By adding the slab of aged copper, it's skipping past that early slow phase and moving to the point where half the place is dancing already. That's why it helps when AFKing. But copper blocks spread out is like the same kids alone in their room, they're more likely to start dancing when no one is watching, and that's fastest if you actively manage it.

It would be a really cool idea to have the auto crafting done specifically for Hermit orders. Imagine you walk into a shop, buy a stack of copper blocks, and go over to the crafter, select your block, and have it be auto crafted for you! You would never have to craft it yourself

I'm imagining a factory that: Harvests copper from a drowned farm. Autocrafts it into blocks. Ships it into an aging facility, like the one from last season. I guess the blocks here need to be manually placed and harvested, but you could make that easier by, after harvesting just dropping them into a hopper that collects them into shulker boxes at a central area for ease of transport to the shop. Then you just sell fully aged and possibly unaged copper.

I think having the auto-crafting in the shopping district would be a really good idea, as you could have a "just in time" manufacturing setup. (Replacements can be crafted up when people take things). Then you would only have one thing to refill, too!

Thinking about it, you could theoretically fully automate the block crafting, placing, aging, and breaking process now. Hook up a crafter to a drowned copper farm, have it craft and feed the copper blocks into your inventory while you AFK right click them into a piston feed tape, stretch the tape out long enough to account for the maximum possible time it'd take the copper to fully age, and then feed the tape into a TNT blast chamber to break the now aged blocks. You'd have to be pretty precise with coordinating the rate of your farm to the time it takes to fully oxidize the copper when it's grouped together and the length of the piston feed tape, but it definitely could be done. Could definitely be worth trying.

I have a feeling since there is a datapack that allows mobs to drop their heads, they didn’t tweak the drop rates for wither skeletons so they now have 2 different chances to drop a skull causing the rates to be insane.

In short, surrounding fresh copper blocks with aged ones is to trade the speed for more efficient use of space. Blocks will always age the fastest if they're alone (being next to older copper will still slow it down), but if you have to age a lot of copper next to each other, you'll want to have as much aged copper around them as possible. The ratio matters.

for your aging process you could use the stone cutter to multiply the copper blocks and then make slabs out of them so that you have even more oxidised blocks for the oxidiser there is also a rather interesting design with this kind of concept by cubicmetre that you maby could look into

X! With your copper aging, it can be *any* aged copper block, not just the regular one. I recommend cut copper slabs as your fully oxidized base, and what I do is use bottom slabs below and top slabs above so you increase the oxidation rate while still being able to walk between them! I've also done copper tunnels (copper slabs below, above, and every other row in the middle as well), but if you're going to automate placing the full slabs makes sense.

To make your skull farm safer, on top of using Wither roses to prevent everything else from spawning, you can plase glass panes at their head hight to keep them in place. Also, why is no one waxing their signs? If you're not going to edit them use honeycomb to lock them so people don't mess with them. You can still dye them even after you lock it.

A neat trick with placing copper to oxidise: the player, shifting on top of a block, can just about reach 5 blocks away to place another block on the same y level as the one the player is stood on. My brain really doesn’t like numbers so this really helps me

4:51 the 5 minute timer only exists as long as the chunk with your items is loaded. If it's far away then the timer only starts ticking once you are close to the target.

I have a shop idea. It's a hedge maze only with copper blocks. All the blocks are on a piston feed tape and you place them unaged into the tape. Players pay an amount to enter the maze and mine their copper. The most aged copper is near the end. When the time runs out the floor catches fire.

the aged copper nearby doesnt speed up the aging, but slightly negates the effects of other unaged copper. If I remember correctly. So it is slower than making a perfect spacing, but more convinient to place and harvest. There are some videos from cubicMeter explaining this

it checks the area around it and if there is a "lower tier" it gets preferred. thats why they age in "waves" the more blocks you have, the more times it gets ticket, thus aging the lower tiers faster

I don't know how big the redstone would be or how much space something like this would take up, but having something like a Willy Wonka copper foundry to get the copper from would be cool. Even if you have to fake it, I just imagine being able to see the "process" of copper going from ore, turned into blocks, aged, made into other things, etc.

So the trick with having an adjacent copper block is that it will only age to a certain point. Putting them on top of fully weathered copper will actually slow down the process because there’s another copper block within 4 blocks. Now if you placed an unweathered copper next to a waxed exposed copper block, the unweathered one will not age past the exposed state. That’s probably the mechanic you were thinking of. Unrelated note, you need to name your store “Fancy a copper?”(fancy a cuppa?)

Maybe you've already thought of this haha, but you could build up a huge copper platform, and offer a copper age-ing service in your shop? BYO copper, cheaper than buying the pre-aged stuff off the shelf, but still a fee for the service. Since you're already investing in a platform for aging it yourself, you'd basically just be renting out nothing but your space & AFK time!

If you make cut copper blocks with a stonecutter, you get 4 blocks from one block of copper, and they should count the same towards the aging mechanic. Might save on some copper.

Aged copper does not accelerate copper aging, it is just that non-aged blocks inhibits it. So fully aged blocks have the same effect as air or stone. Also the blocks use taxicab distance, so putting them in a diamond patters is more space efficient.

Thought with the copper autocrafting: Have it in the shopping district, but not fully automatic. Instead, have it be a thing where a hermit inserts payment somewhere, and then presses a button for the block they want, and an amount of that block is automatically crafted and delivered to them. Maybe have the redstone visible, sorta like those commemorative penny-pressing machines some places have in the US

You could make the harvesting part automatic. Make the oxidized copper platform out of waterlogged oxidized copper slabs. Drop tnt and release a water stream and collection system

There's another way to do the machine at the end of the video, to easily place copper blocks on a surface. I use it in the nether to dry sponges. put a fence or a wall block instead the nearest redstone from the torch, but without the torch in this version. Then an observer seeing the fence/wall, connected with the piston. When you place a block (next to the piston and the fence) the fence changues and the observer emits a signal to the piston. Easy.

If you use the same pathfinding for the wither skeletons to pigmen tango and impulse used last year. You can put a pigmen on a block off the sides with trapdoors and the skeletons will path off and kept where you could collect them safely without going in.

actually, if you have an auto crafting contraption of some kind, you could sell regular copper blocks, then provide access to the crafter as a paid service so that none of your stock goes wasted if say people just don't end up buying a lot of certain copper bits.

I remember seeing your copper aging platform video earlier and didn't understand it. Just now I had to go back and watch ilmango's copper science video, because it turns out I had misunderstood the math. I thought it only factored into account the surrounding copper of equal or less age to calculate how much slower it goes. In which case a platform of copper makes no difference. However, it's ACTUALLY the ratio of more aged copper to same aged copper that adds to the calculation. So yeah, having no other copper is best, but otherwise, the greater number of more aged copper you can put near a block, the better. In fact, a single block sorrounded by more aged blocks should age at the same rate as one with no copper nearby.

AT the end of the video, you don't need to use oxidized copper blocks. You can use oxidized cut copper slabs. They are much cheaper.

I think for the copper shop you should have a special section where you sell copper that's been mined for a premium price (you know like how diamonds are more expensive when they've been mined instead of lab grown?). I bet some hermits would top dollar for it even though its exactly the same block haha!
