I remember 3 years ago I woke up with INTENSE pain on my lower belly. Like I couldn’t get up to walk, it just hurt so bad. As a general rule, most hernias are caused by lifting an object that is very heavy in an improper fashion. The best preventative measures are to avoid lifting extremely heavy objects without assistance and to always practice safe lifting procedure.

The hole is there so that in males the testes can descend into the scrotum during fetal development. My brother had to have surgery to aid the process. Without it he would not of had viable spermatozoa. I don’t know why females have inguinal holes but i guess it’s the same reason we males have nipples.

Hi I think I need an advice, I have this swollen lump in my right inguinal area for already 6 days, but since we're in a lockdown I can't go straight to the doctor, so my mom just asked the doctor through phone call and described what happened and told her that I might just had UTI yet my body endured that infection as I didn't felt any pain when urinating, so she prescribed me Ciprofloxacin, now I'm on my 3rd day of taking the meds (nothing changes) but I have this feeling that it's not just an ordinary swollen node due to infection 🙁

Its really rare for females to get hernias mostly dudes get it. If you have no burning sensation or discomfort its probably not a hernia,but still I would go do an mri and check.

Internal hernia may be asymptomatic, no pain, no discomfort. Especially in the initial stage. It may appear after a few years. Analyzes will not show anything at all. You can only see it on a CT scan with special preparation and double contrasting. Such hernias account for more than 85% of all hernias, but unlike others, they are extremely difficult to see until it becomes critical for the patient.

Yep. I have 2. Surgeon said mine is small, too and doesn't recommend surgery because the mesh they put in can cause worse problems. Just push it back in with a flat hand. If you eat too much, those suckers can pop back out a little.

Good question. Usually a plain x ray will not show a hernia. Physical examination, Ultrasound or CT usually will diagnose a hernia.

Good evening, Dr. Buck. I periodically get this sharp pain behind my belly button, when I go from the sitting position to the standing position and it hurt's so bad to the point that I have to either sit back down or lay down for it to go away which usually takes 5-10 mins. After the pain calms slowly goes away, I have the urge to urinate, but when I do it hurt's like hell. Excuse my language, but the pain is a 8-9 on a 1-10 scale. But there is never any "bulges" or "bump's or lump's" anywhere. Any help would be appreciated, because this suck's. Would just like to sit and stand without having to worry about how fast I do it or if it is going to hurt.

Hey doc, So I was lifting the other day in a new position -- despite the fact I had the gut feeling something bad was going to happen, but I kept going. After I finished my last rep I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen. I stretched to try to relieve it, because I normally feel strains on my body when working out, so I thought no different. It's been a couple of days and I just discovered a tiny bump that hurts only when touched right near my groin, it does not hurt when bending, coughing or lifting only feels some pressure when sitting. Can this be a hernia, will try to stop at the ER tonight for some answers. For those wondering what it was it was the beginnings of an abscess which was my second guess as I was walking around today and started to analyze the symptoms. The doc was debating between a swollen lympbode(?) which someone mentioned in the comments below (thank you), and I took that into consideration as well. After a quick sonogram it came to be an abscess which can dissolve with hot compresses and antibiotics but sometimes may need to be removed by making a small incision (NO THANKS) been there. So take care of it before you have to undergo some further pain!

I had a really big hernia and had surgery that fixed you back in 2010. It has come back and it’s 10 times worse then the first one. I can even eat like I want to because of it. It’s unbearable when I eat. I’m not sure if they used a mesh or not. I been dealing with this for two years now which I did have it checked before and all they did was give me some pain medicine, and a prescription for acid reflex which it never worked for me.

If I have pain in my hernia I lay inverted on my inversion table until the pain subsides. I am also doing the recommended exercises and that helps also. I just discovered the hernia and it is small. I feel I will be able to heal it without surgery. I am retired and I can baby it and pay a lot of attention to it. Thank you for the video.

I know this comment is a few years old but yes, very painful. I had an incisional hernia from when I had a emergency ileostomy surgery and reversal. Way more painful recovery from that than the previous ileostomy, gastric bypass, hiatal hernia and appendix surgery I've had.

Thanks for the video. I have had a CT and was diagnosed with 2 inguinal hernias. Sometimes it is painful and I lay down when that happens. Dr told me that I have to wait due to Covid 19 issues now and no elective surgeries allowed. I had an intense ab pain yesterday and it was severe, but once again resting helped. I have great concern that waiting could cause me more problems. At what point do I go to ER or should I just wait? I prefer to have my surgeon do the operation vs an ER as well as dealing with the insurance cost difference. I feel bloated a lot and uncomfortable. Should I refrain from ab exerices or spin bike cardio? I have gained weight from this whole situation. Please advise. Thanks!

Yes, sorry for not replying here for awhile. My bad. I had my surgery on June 8th. It went very well and the discomfort is gone. I feel so much better. I had lived with the hernia for far too long. The hospital staff and my doctor were all fantastic and the post of pain and recovery went by very quickly.

Dear Dr. Parker, I've struggled with chronic constipation for 2 yrs. I have been fasting off & on for about 2 months due to not being able to move my bowels. Tried eating but it will trigger nausea and sometimes vomiting. I took herbal laxatives and my stomach and intestinal tract hurt. Right after a forced BM from using senna. I had shallow breathing and my upper mid stomach got swollen. ER did an ultrasound for my gallbladder and x-ray but they didn't look for a hernia that I'm aware of. I also get hiccups after drinking water and get full easily.I had an endoscopy in April last year. No signs of a hernia. Do you think the swelling in is a sign of a hernia. It had gone down a little but today after lifting my child it got worse and shallow breathing returned. It's also feels hard and tender in mid upper stomach and like I have a large mass in my stomach.

@@cooldudeplanet5779 sounds to me like you have a hernia... if you feel a lump its probably some of your intestines bulging out of your stomach wall... you cant be sure till you see a specialist... im pretty sure i have methane sibo... so i basically can only eat small meals... very restricted ... no cruciferous veggies at all, they produce methane ...also nothing containing sulfur... so i basically eat small amounts of plain steak with deseeded cucumbers...thats all i can tolerate... if you have insurance go see a specialist..if your having trouble pooping...drink ginger tea thru out the day and also take MAG 07 its a type of magnesium that helps you poop..

did you get it fixed? i waited a few years and it got bigger and bigger after keyhole surgery for gallbladder. I had it fixed and guess what...it failed. I had to have it re-done laparoscopically. Both times were mesh. Many years ago. 16 years after all that, i had a new hernia on the side, a rare one...Spegilian, had it fixed and recently I am wondering if it is back. I also have a small femoral (i think) one...i ignore it. My doctor felt it during an exam 8 years ago. I wish i knew why i got all these...one of my docs calls me a "hernia person"....pre-disposed. How are you. ??

Had surgery and two spinal fluid leak repair attempts after that which made it worse no more groin pain but my feet are numb from my knees down 24 seven pinched nerves and chronic back pain, I had two epidurals that did not work. So now they want to implant a stimulator. Just so you know I was down for almost 6 months after these surgeries if you don’t have to go under the knife do not go under. But I had no other choice so now I have to live with that

I have no symptoms maybe a little weakness on the left side when I am pulling up my pants not really convince because it was that one time. But if I press with my four fingers, I feel something that moves away from my fingers not sure what that is or if its normal there's not pain when I do this either. Is there a way to examine myself?

Please help, So I did a big chest workout just before Christmas, and it's not major pain but it's just a daily thing. It comes and goes though the day. But does feel much better when I lay on my back or sitting. I went to E.R on the 1st, got blood work and chest xray. They said I was good. Said I had bronchitis. Well I still have the same mild pains for about a month now. I am scheduled to see a Dr but waiting because there swamped. What's your opinion? I see or feel no bumps

Hey doc, I've been dealing with pain for a few months now. I was first diagnosed with a left vericocele, then a hernia, and now a groin strain. I've been having consistent pain near my lower right quadrant where my appendix is (not appendicitis I had that removed) and near my belly button. Imagine a horizontal line going through your belly button, that is how my pain feels. I don't have nausea, fevers, chills, and bowels are normal. I had 2 ultrasounds done and nothing showed up but it did hurt when the camera for the ultrasound was pushing down on my right side. Any idea if it is indeed a groin strain?

Dr. Buck, I have a lump next to my belly button, touching the wall. Went to ER last night. The PA said, "Let me see if I can push it back in." Apparently he did because when I went to ct, I could barely find the lump to show them. When the ct was conducted, the techs said they couldn't see anything other than tissue. Now it's back and hard so I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

It's probably a hernia and you need it fixed. You should see a General Surgeon. If it's causing lots of pain then go back to the ER and ask to see a SURGEON. LOL

I'm 12 and I had a abdominal pain problems since july by the appendix and all the area in the abdomen area and stomach problems, blood in the stool and diarrhea. Went to doctor and he gave me pills for infection or antibacterial something like that for like 3 weeks but still have pain cramps and everything in the stomach and abdominal area. HELP!!!

@@linaazmiin7479 Still some cramps but the doctor said it’s probably from blockage, AKA constipation kind of. Have to drink Miralax everyday. The cramps or pain is from the large intestine or smaller too due to the poop not going through and staying there. Even though I go to the bathroom frequently for #2 the doctor said it kind of doesn’t matter then gave me an analogy of a freeway how one part of the freeway is free and there’s traffic somewhere.
