I had a roommate many years ago who was about 5'9" and weighed maybe 130 LBS. One of his hobbies was rebuilding cars. One day, he and a friend were using an iron rod with a chain to move an engine block when he stumbled causing the weight to shift suddenly putting strain on his abdomen and part of his intestines displaced into his scrotum which swelled to the size of a large orange. He had to wait 2 days for the swelling to go down before he had corrective surgery so he sat on the couch in our room with a large bag of ice between his legs on pain killers the entire time. To this day, I don't think he will lift much for fear of it happening again...

I am 91 years old and very well and active for my age but I have an inguinal hernia now which developed over 18 months ago, at the beginning I used to push it in myself though on some occasions pushing it in took a long time and was frightening , friends would say “call the ambulance “ but at that time I didn’t. On the 5th May, the night before the Coronation, I did, at the Emergency it was dealt with quite quickly , following that and within 5 weeks I’ve had the hernia out all together and am a nervous wreck as I had to wait for help for a long time . Unfortunately not those who had attended me knew how to deal with a hernia and that caused me much distress. Now I am going to be seen by the Surgeon and hear what his opinion is, I am wearing a Truss but question is, that at 91 should I have the keyhole surgery or carry on with the Truss ? I thank this Doctor for explaining everything so well and things are clearer in my mind to confront the Surgeon.

Tips and information for recovering from Hernia Surgery if you live alone. These are things you should do before you leave the house to go for surgery. Cook and prepare a week’s worth of meals and snacks before surgery. Meals that will be easy to pass through your digestive system. Things like vegetable soup with beans, carrots, celery…, oatmeal with prunes, egg salad, chicken salad, steamed carrots and broccoli, asparagus… low fat and low grease type foods. Snacks like apples, oranges, *ripe* bananas, all kinds of fruits are good to keep things moving. Start taking a stool softener one or two days before surgery and then continue taking it when you get home. Place something next to your toilet you can grab onto to help you get on and off the toilet. Do the same for your bed and other areas you may sit. Have toothpaste, toothbrush, and floss out and ready to use. A glass of water to rinse your mouth out. You’re not going to be able to bend over to _cup water_ in your hands. If you don’t already have a _grabber,_ get one. Do not take your phone to surgery. Leave your phone at home on your nightstand and fully charged. Have on hand at least two ice packs that you can wrap a clean cloth around to put over the location of surgery and rotate them from the freezer as needed. This will keep the swelling down. Read your after surgery instructions and follow them. Listen to your doctor and follow his/her orders. Keep the wound area clean and clean it with an antibacterial soap every morning and again before you go to bed at night. The next day get up and walk but be careful. I walked outside around the cul-de-sac four times a day starting the day right after surgery. Twice in the morning, once in the afternoon, and then again in the evening. Have clean sheets on your bed. Wear loose fitting clothes. Have plenty of water and Gatorade on hand and before you leave for surgery place a few bottles on your nightstand, computer desk, kitchen table, kitchen counters, your television chair, and in your refrigerator. Drink plenty of liquids. At least four bottles per day. Take pain medication as needed but don’t over do it. All pain medications can cause constipation. A thermometer on your nightstand. A list of movies you may want to watch. I can’t sugarcoat this for you. The first three days are going to be tough so be ready. It gets easier on your fourth day. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I had a hernia on the left side. First went to my primary care and he referred me to a doctor that specializes in hernia operations. He informed me I had a lateral hernia. I went in for a laparoscopic surgery using mesh to patch it up. It was a quick in and out kind of thing. Little bit of pain after but not much at all. This was some years ago now and I can do everything I was able to do before. I would recommend the surgery for sure. Having my tonsils removed some years before that was far more painful. And I do mean 'far more painful'.

One treatment for a hiatal hernia is getting a neck adjustment. C3, C4, C5, keeps the diaphragm alive! The phrenic never controls the diaphragm and runs down C3, C4, and C5. An unadjusted neck can put pressure on the phrenic nerve causing the diaphragm to open and allow the stomach to slide up. Most likely the neck is subluxated and an adjustment and manual pulling down of the stomach will help. I know this works from personal experience. Not all chiropractors will know this for some reason.

I have double inguinal hernias caused by gardening and DIY over the years but as a woman it's one of those things taken less seriously than in men. Before I found the second one, during the pandemic, I was in such an incredible amount of pain one day that I went to hospital but I was diagnosed as having a water infection - which I knew it wasn't. When I disputed this, the doctor said, "then I don't know what it is!" I found out some time later it was a strangulated hernia! I can manage it but they do get uncomfortable at times.

I developed an umbilical hernia after a serious bought of vasculitis (Wegener’s disease) had me violently coughing for hours on end. My belly button (which was always an “innie”) is now a golf ball sized bulge that protrudes out past my stomach. I can push it in but it comes out again and it feels / looks weird. I asked my PCP what to do and he seemed totally indifferent about it, saying “oh lots of people have those and they just live with them”. It’s been going on for years now and I don’t like it, I want it fixed. I have to go through my PCP to get a referral for surgery, I’m hoping I can convince him to write it up and get the insurance co. on board. This is a great video. I am a 69 year old woman in limbo now for 3 years. I have a regular hernia in my left groin, the woman's kind on my right side and one near my navel. The left side one is getting bigger and the pain days and intensity are increasing. I need to get the surgery but am frightened. One doctor will do it without the mesh; just using my muscle but he says it can come apart. Another doctor will use a mesh but I am scared it will meld with my intestines and cause me lifelong pain and infection. When I need to void it really hurts and also when I eat too much, but not when I lift things. Are those mesh's really safe, when there are class action lawsuits out there by many people who are permanently injured by them. Gosh I really don't know what to do. I have a blind husband and autistic son so I am a caretaker and can't afford any long term issues. Any suggestions?

Wat happened ? Did your hernia got cured now?
@annettegenovesi2 жыл бұрын
@@vikastompala Haha no I don't know if they can be cured, just controlled. Which is what I am doing. I have to be careful not to eat huge meals, which I love to do, and when the big one hurts, I must stop what I am doing and do some floor exercises that I read about on utube and that most definitely help get it back into place. So I'm living with it and with my aversion to having my skin "broken" as in surgery I will probably do so unless it suddenly gets worse.

@@KristieMAC1About half the time when I "have to go" I will get cramping. I did learn some tricks in the past year. You must slim down. Even one pound extra weight puts a lot of pressure in that area. Be sure to exercise; even walking is good, a few minutes a day. Finally, take fiber after each meal. I alternate between Dr. Schultze's Intestinal formula number one, a teaspoon of ground flaxseed in any liquid, or a teaspoon of psyllium seed in any liquid. Oh yes, also any one of the over the counter fiber blends are really good. So you get lots of variety. I learned that to go with ease you need proper fats every day (olive oil or cod liver oil), enough liquids and proper bulk (fiber). Another good trick is to put 2000mg. of vitamin C with 300 mg. or so mg. of magnesium and a teaspoon of any fiber in a beverage. Drink it down. Hope his helps. It has helped me a lot. And PS: On utube you can find lots of videos with certain massages and exercisesto do when your hernia pops out. Not hard to pop it back in place. So I have decided to live with mine.

Thank you for this video. I have a question I am hoping the Doctor or someone following this channel can answer. I had a CT scan of my abdomen about 2 weeks ago (August 15, 2023) due to severe right flank pain. I was told there was no hernia, no mass, no infection, etc. Basically the doctor told me they did not see anything that would be causing my right flank pain. However, as I was reading through the overall CT scan results a couple of days ago, I saw there was a note in the FINDINGS section under EXTRA-ABDOMINAL SOFT TISSUES that states "Small fat-containing umbilical hernia". The doctor at the ER (where I had the CT scan) never said anything about this hernia, she told me there was no evidence of a hernia at all. Then I had an appointment 3 days ago with a Family doctor that saw the note for the umbilical hernia, but all she said was that this would not be the cause of my flank pain. Nothing was mentioned about getting this repaired at all, never mind waiting any amount of time. I have been having the right flank pain for over 7 weeks now, and no one can tell me why. I have had 2 CT scans (first without, then with contrast), an MRI and multiple doctors examining my right flank and abdomen with palpitations checking for a mass or abnormality with no findings of anything that would cause my pain. This pain is every day, all day as long as I am either standing or sitting. The only time the pain goes away is when I lay on my back. After 10 to 15 minutes on my back, the pain is completely gone. So, my question is does this hernia need to be repaired with surgery as soon as possible?
@santelder Жыл бұрын
Sounds like it could be spinal pain if it goes away after lying down .
@marcd1981 Жыл бұрын
@@santelder Thank you for replying. Do you have experience with that? Or do you know someone that does? I just had an MRI and an Ultrasound of my abdomen yesterday. I'm at the Keck School of Medicine now (Oct 27th, about 4 months with this pain), and the doctor with Keck that ordered the scans is setting me up with a spine specialist. I'm hoping to see them this coming week. If you have any further information regarding what you think it could be, please send it to me, I'm interested in listening and learning everything I can.

I had bilateral inguinal hernia mesh surgery 4 years ago and the medical community as a whole has been refusing to acknowledge a problem. They don't see your pain They don't feel your pain They are trained that mesh cannot cause pain 4 years disabled because of mesh and hopeless for any help because dr's go through the motions and cash a paycheck every week while i struggle with basic life functions with intolerable pain. Don't trust doctor's your life may depend on it.

I’m with you on that. I had traditional gall bladder surgery (laparoscopic wasn’t an option) and they nicked my bile duct causing major problems. When I finally healed it immediately herniated across the incision scar 10” wide. I had hernia surgery to repair that and it’s still so weak and soft.. sometimes painful.. and protrudes much further than the opposite area. I have to eat very small meals or it blows outward until I digest. They just say it’s normal. I say not.

There’s a great little book on natural healing written by an older man who cured himself of a number of maladies without medical intervention, called My Physician, Myself. I read it a couple of years ago but lost my copy. I’m going to Amazon right now to order one and be more careful with it. It’s more than worth the read. You might look into the work of Luigi Cornaro, a Venetian nobleman who lived to be 102.

Im not sure whether i should go and see another G.P about it.😮
