The 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad is taking place in Chennai, India from July 29 to August 9, 2022, with almost 200 national teams in the Open section and over 150 in the Women's. Each team consists of 5 players, with 4 playing each match, and they battle it out in a Swiss system over 11 rounds.
Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. No draw offers are allowed before move 30. Teams score 2 match points for a win and 1 for a draw. Official website: chessolympiad.fide.com

#suggestion Pechac vs. Korobov (round 4 of the Olympiad) I don't remember seeing a game by a Slovak player on this channel yet, and here Pechac just created a beautiful position and beat korobov, who is 100 points higher rated... The game is not about tactics, but pushing the advantage on the Q side (first sacked B for 2 Korobov's pawns, then sacked the exchange to deny Korobov doing the same... so basically he ended up down a rook, but with 2 beautiful passed pawns and there was nothing more to be done :))

Fabi is one of the greatest calculators on the planet with a very hard-working style, and this has been attested to by multiple top chess players. If you think memorizing engine lines does "most of the work" for any top player, especially when the opening is usually within the first 10 moves, you are sorely mistaken. Do you think players just prep entire games lol?

I haven't followed Fabi very long, maybe 6 months, but my impression was that he gets stumped during the midgame. I am hoping to see more wins on his part, knowing his endgames are strong. Thanks, __!
