This lecture is pretty dry (no pun intended). But if you’re into pure physical geography, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT! What I enjoyed most about this lecture was the occasional descriptions of Herodotus’s intellectual feats when he found that he couldn’t make proper sense of some particular information provide him. And my favorite example of THAT is Herodotus’s efforts to ferret out the reason the Nile commences it’s annual flood every Summer Solstice, lasts for 100 days, then begins subsiding. Some cool stuff.

I noticed that too. The physical features of the people of the Delta in Egypt is omitted. The physical features of the Libyans is omitted (they do say that the Phoenicians and Greeks colonisits of 'Libya Continent' are different from Native Libyans) The physical features of the people of Nubia in southern Egypt is also omitted. Only the people of Meroe in 'Ethiopia' (modern Sudan) are described as Black in colour. The funny part is that the rest of the World thinks Africans are Black; yet Africans think the Nilotics are Black. In my native language Nguni: we say 'abantu aba ntsundu' = brown-skin people when describing Africans although traditionally elders believed their neighbours: the tribes Venda, Tsonga (Mozambicans), Nyasa (Shona / Malawians) were mnyama (Black). These were traditional beliefs. I would think the Egyptians of the Delta region in the north also thought they were brown in skin colour with Southern Egyptians and Nilotics held as black in skin colour. The Igbos say same thing about Yorubas. The Fulani say the same thing about Hausa and Wolofsm Sudaneses say the same about Nilotics in South Sudan The Habesha of Ethiopia say the same about Somali and Omoro peoples etc

I'll check them out. :) The lands comes alive like a 3D travelogue ... and even a highly educated and scientific Greek like Herodotus - who understood the changes such a land, its great river, and the richly silted Delta expanse would go through over thousands of years - could not fathom the extremity of those mountains, those heights, the enormous lake, and the glacial reality. Oh, the rain forests connected across the great continent there ... at that time. I imagine these wonders at that time, and actually I admit I get sad ... l mourn the natural bounty of creatures and millions of acres of lush life ... we can never recoup all this loss on this planet. Herodotus makes 5 points on how the Ethiopians are not Egyptians, He says the {Ethiopians "and" Egyptians} live on the same part of the tiny island on red sea where it separates. then he says the people who are "dwelling there in Ethiopia" about how the snow melting may cause the Nile to rise. he also says Egyptian rebels "escape to Ethiopia". He says on other accounts the people of Ethiopia and the people of the Egypt are of 2 different people with very distinctive features and way of life. The word Ethiopia is a Greek word meaning Burnt face. The Egyptians then show in this video the Ethiopians sailing on boats to Egypt up the Nile top bring gifts to the Egypt kings.

Got curious. As a non white or non black related race person, I really don't understand why people are arguing. Some say ancient Egyptians were black, and some say they aren't. I think (just saying there's no real evidence of what race they were) they were some sort of black at first. However, as egypt grew and there was more trade going, many countries contacted them in a good way, or in a bad way. We can't deny that. Don't you guys think they got mixed with Europeans and the middle eastern and become in the middle? Ancient Egyptians painted nubians as real black color for the skin, and tanned skin for them selves. I think this shows they had different skin colors, and I think we should not say they were black from the coloring. Maybe it could of been tanned skin from outside working, Right? And as the time past, they drew them selves as more lighter skin, and mummies that got DNA test had blond, red hair and blue of light brown eyes, so there's a high chance of saying they are mixture of those other races. I think its too early to say what race they were. Please don't be mad at me I'm still learning and I'm just saying that... chill out you know... this is only my opinion. For all the people saying Kemet means it was a land of all black people need to educate themselves. Kemet translates as "Black Land", in reference to the fertile banks and fields surrounding the Nile (black from the soil). In contrast, "deshret" is the term for the "Red Land" or the desert (a modern term derived from "deshret") that surrounds the fertile "kemet". Were there black people in ancient Egypt? Yes.
