Heroes in History: The Gladiators

The Gladiator in For Honor is a loud, boaster with a great deal of bravado and flashy abilities. Engrained with a serious toe fetish, they use their trident and buckler shield to corner enemies and impale them to death. But who are they based on? What do these flamboyant warriors have in comman with the gladiators of Rome? Are they exactly the same or are they different?

I like to think that gladiator doesn’t actually know he’s in a war he just thinks that he’s in another Colosseum fight and when he dose his roar of the crowd feat his fun and roses execution and some of his emotes it’s all in his head

You forgot to mention the fact that the only reason the gladiators are in the faction war to begin with is that the great empire (where the centurions come from) were so desperate for troops they basically HAD to send gladiators and prisoners to help the knights in the war.

You know, I kind of wonder what would the Gladiator would have look like if For Honor used a different gladiators as their basis. I mean, it would be cool to see a Gladiator using a Sica or a Scissor along with a Scutum (since the Centurion isn't going to use it). Granted they would lose their long range advantage, but at least they would be protected somewhat and have a slight defense.

A little tip for the glad gameplay: I would recommend doing dodged bash, heavy, then feign into gb

Gladiator and Shaman are the only Assasins I put a lot of time into. Gladiator being my third most played character. I do like Berserker and Shinobi but dont play em much And Shaolin Is technically a Hybrid with Assasim qualities and the Shaolin is in my top 10 characters

Not the Retarius the Hoplomachus, who had a spear and a buckler whose armor including the padded brace on the arm carrying the weapon the leg braces and the helmet, the only discrepancy may be that the Hoplomachus used a spear not a trident…

Literally the only thing about this video that I kind of don't like is that you barely mention Spartacus at all. At some point in the future, I'd love to see a video from you where you give your full thoughts on the man, and whether or not you feel he deserves the amount of hype that he has gotten over the years.

Hm...I mean, it is possible, but I feel like they would be more like shock troopers rather than actual soldiers...well, maybe like the Knights' berserkers who charge into battle first. The Gladiator's lack of chest armor would hamper their battlefield effectiveness by a lot.

Perhaps a rapier to replace the trident. More practical for battle, but takes equal finesse.

@@jaegercat6702 Rapiers wouldn’t be accurate because it belongs to an another era. There was many class of gladiators. In for honor we have the retiarus. If we had the murmillo instead, glad would have a Gallic shield and a broad sword.

Ancient Rome gladiators still lived very well compared to the basic Roman slave gladiators beds would be heated for the winters and they were fed very well because they were the people entertainment also volunteer gladiators some of them just want to get the attention or just for the food and warmth a gladiator gets.

They might have but then again the Murmillo also fought against the Thraex which is based off of the warriors of Thrace. So Secutor and Retiarius would be more common then a Retiarius and Murmillo.

Nah alot of conquered women were sold to other fields of "labor" not many were made into gladiators. From what I've heard and read

Most gladiators were boys hardly any gladiator was a girl and the female gladiators maybe adored by the people but lots of Romans saw those female gladiators as a disgrace to their gender.
