The best thing about Bernard was that he was a very genuine down to earth caring type character. No airs and graces, and a sincerely good heart. Nothing fake or dishonest with him. Didn't BS, or look to impress. No ego, no narcissism, unlike a whole lot of other so called celebrities.

I played at the Embassy a few times and old Bernard (who died owing me few quid) looked at me and my three saxophones. on stage, saying "He's not a real sax player, y'know! He nicked all this stuff from a plumbers scrap yard!" I'd been warned not to blow a musical retort at him or he would destroy me. Incredible club, incredible guy, incredible experience for a 25 year old muso. finding his way through the VAST Manchester cabaret scene of the 70s.

There’s 2 types of “racists”. Bernard, who tells jokes about other races but will also hold a fund raiser to give 10 grand to an Asian family to help their kid’s medical bills Then there’s the liberal, snowflake lot. Don’t live within 5 mile of immigrants, their kids don’t mix with immigrants in school, they don’t queue up next to immigrants in the shop/doctors/Post Office. Yet they’ll harp on about social integration. Whilst living in a 99.8% white community. I’ve met these virtue signalling hypocrites! Total 2 faced twats.

Bernard was a comedian, that’s how he made a living. He didn’t make a living by being gratuitously offensive, otherwise nobody would go to watch him. Those who took offence are are snowflakes. You don’t have to go and watch him. You have to pay to watch. Don’t like him don’t go, don’t pay, walk out. He told joke about everyone...including himself. You can’t make a living by being offensive, but you can by being funny. He did. He was the King of Comedy.

Bernard Manning asked me for directions over 40 years ago. This is not a joke. I was riding my moped and pulled up to the lights. A Rolls Royce pulled up along side, the back window rolled down, and Bernard said "Oi sunny, do you know where Sunnyside is". Luckily I was a teenager and knew everything. Unfortunatly that was the only thing I did not know at the time. Although I now know a lot less than I did then, it is blindigly obvious where the Sunnside is, because it is near where I live.

Bernard was a comedy legend, there's comedians, and there's Bernard Manning. It's just his appearance, delivery, the accent, it's a full package and that's why he was such a successful standup and never had a bad show.. he was just naturally funny. I often wonder how his act tho would have been received in Las Vegas and USA where he did shows.. because with that heavy Northern accent I think many American's would have struggled a bit with understanding him. Most of his jokes are simple English and fairly easy jokes so I think maybe Americans could get these jokes even with the accent, he doesn't use that much unique British slang in his routines, only occasionally. Any American's care to comment? Is Bernard Manning hard to understand?

I once saw an heckler get the better of him in Leeds.Bernard had being having a go at him and he shouted . I've met you before ,when you were singing, He said I own a pop group. Manning thought he was being serious so he said ,which one. He shouted Coca cola you fat bastard.Bernard laughed and said, you got me there.

ian bennett He he, good story. I was in his club in Mcr one night, he picked on a guy going to the toilet. “Where the xxxx yer think you’re going?” “I’m going for a piss before the comedian comes on!” Great retort. Brought the house down. Mid ‘80’s. 😀😀😀

Horace Debacle what complete and utter horsetripe you do spout, so everyone who doesn’t conform to your ideology has cancer, ugly children, lives in a council house and is unwashed, scruffy looking and feckless? As much as it hates me to lower to use this word I’m going to anyway, Dickhead, go watch Jimmy Tarbuck
