Just came across this, what a laugh, I was working on the M6 in the mid 70's, late at night, multiple vehicle pile up, we were clearing vehicles, Bernard was caught in traffic behind the crash. Going home after a gig in Birmingham. . He had us all in stitches as he cracked jokes as we worked. . . Years later I met him again at his house by Uttoxeter race course, I reminded him of the time I had met him before and he said. . ''Did you ever fucking pay me for that show I gave you'' .... 😂😂😂😂

Manning was was a rare breed. Funny (to me) but offensive to many others, especially todays audiences. The work and contributions he made to charities goes unheralded (he only donated, both his time and money) unlike the many who slagged him off. He was his own man and stood firm. He might have been a Man City supporter but I'll let that slide. Thank you boss for making us laugh. He would of had a field day with the WOKE contingent. Merry Christmas King Bernard.🎅

@Andyferguson-ml4uo6 ай бұрын
Who did he offend exactly?
@Biggusdickuss11121 күн бұрын
@@Andyferguson-ml4uo Well I'm guessing, black people as being stereotyped as muggers, Pakistanis stereotyped as workshy freeloaders, irish for being stupid, women for being nags and easy virtue, Jews for being stereotyped as greedy and cunning. Now lm not saying thats right or wrong, it was of its time but what might be wrong is if he extended that time by being persistent in his material, as it did change, and again did it really do harm? The thick irishmen jokes were practically encouraged when the troubles were at their worst it made folk feel secure thinking the irish were just to daft to do anything well like win. I was in the British Army at the time, told we had to be informed that going home on leave we shouldnt be wearing our best uniforms which many did especially after their passing out parade we were proud of our uniforms, they said it wasnt an order, and they were pleased when we all wore ours home. In the barracks we were told jokes like what do you do if an irishman throws a grenade at you.? Take the pin out and throw it back, stuff like that, why did paddy throw away the cuff links he got for xmas? Because he couldnt find anyone to pierce his wrists, all to make him a lot less scary, the racist jokes, i dunno if they were there to stir up resentment against them or by making them the butt of a joke again like the irish jokes to stop people being afraid of them because they were to be laughed at. I used to laugh my head off, but now as times gone by l do wince at some of them, probably because the then minoritys are now a lot more and you think of someone getting up inba room full of african descent british people and calling them all muggers or making remarks about their lips and noses and hair which what happened every week on shows like the comediens, l didnt meet a black person until l joined the army, there wasnt one living in our small market town, a nigerian worked in the library but he lived in the next bigger town, he was very well dressed and spoke better engkish than we did, kids would bang on the window to attract his attention then make monkey noises and gestures and shouting was it time for his daily banana, the female head librarian was always the one that chased them off the bloke himself just ignored it totally. Now see those kifds would have gotten their attitude from their parents who got it from..? The past is another country they do things differently there.
