Oh man, I feel so bad for you, being stressed because people wanted you to be crazy about this game - but as you said, it's like Heroes 1 & 2 but mostly improved, and that's it, really. I just wanted to say that the reason why I enjoyed these reviews is BECAUSE you were new to them. It has been fun to see you talk about them as "a newbie", and the point you make about there not being a lot you can say about 3 after talking about 1 and 2 is excellently made. I don't think anyone should be upset or angry or anything like that. I've just had some fun watching you have some fun with the games. That's all really. :) EDIT: But seriously, the Polish HoMM community is coming for you now.

The ending made me think about how Endless Jess would have structured the same video to read as a narrative: -Heroes 3 is an improvement over the first two. It's great! -It's the best one, just like people say! .......Just like people told me, explicitly. -In fact, they really wouldn't shut up about how much it was going to blow my mind. -[getting angry] [possibly rants about the entitlement of the community, and the pressure they put on him] -[sudden realization] The real problem here is that I'm trying to review a game with nothing to talk about! -No, the real problem here is that KZbin is a dispensable platform for shitty reviews that are meant to take a single position and then go in one ear and out the other. -GET OUT OF HERE. GO READ A BOOK. GO PLAY HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC 3! OR ELSE. -[cuts an actual fully edited wrestling promo, possibly with a "Stand on ya head" musical number]. -_"Endless Jeeess"_ Edit: And for the record, it would be much more poorly received by the Might and Magic community

Almost fell off the chair by looking at this Einstein-looking guy that much looks like made of plasticine! xD Nah, he's fine. Well, he's younger than me, and is looking at an "old" game with younger eyes. I was "there" when 3D graphics came into being, it was a marveling evolution to me, so it's funny to hear a young guy speaking about a game when his Stone-age is precisely the 3D graphics (mine were games in Text) :p I guess he's right, and this franchise hasn't done a true evolution. It all looks a bit of the same. Considering every game now is only released unless it's a Block Buster Game, these "old" games are lagging behind. Still, HoMM is still one my favourites!

Holy moly what a review, didn't expect this after the first and second episodes. Personally I like 2 and 3 equally, though more often than not end up actually playing 3 because of the extra content like the multiple campaigns. I suppose the game has bit more hype than it deserves, I figure that's because lot of our generation were introduced into video games along the time when Heroes 2 or 3 were the hot stuff and since the sequels failed to deliver that +1 experience as you describe it they fell flat for the old fans. I hoped to hear more of your thoughts but I didn't come out disappointed either looking forward to the HoMM 4 review if that's ever coming out and cheerio

yeah, hmm3 has a strong following throughout all of eastern Europe. I'm Russian and I've been playing this game for about 20 years. To this day it remains my favourite game of all time. I've never actually played the first two but it still seems like you could have said more in this video. At least talk about some new monsters, skills, campaigns, artefacts or objects. There are also fan-made expansions like In The Wake of Gods and Horn of The Abyss. WoG ads tons of completely new concepts but I like how it's all completely customizable and an be turned on or off in every single game. HotA adds a new pirate faction and also makes some balance tweaks

Homm 4 review will be fun, it's not really that bad but it's so different from the rest in many ways. (But it has really good storytelling) Also ideas for Homm related videos: Favorite/Least Favorite Factions/Units/Heroes/Skills/Spells. I know there are a lot but I would totally watch a video with Hippo giving his opinions on every single Faction/Unit/Hero, would be interesting too since he isn't as experienced with them, so it's a fresh perspective even if it includes some newbie mistakes like over-/underestimated something.

I understand why you didn't find the game mind-blowing,and it's just like you sad at the end,you are new to this game and you literally can't appreciate it enough because basically you really just scratched the surface.The thing about H3 is that there are at least a hundred of little things that you can find out about that you never even knew they existed.For example for 10+ years I didn't knew that you move slower on different terrain if you have creatures that are not native to it(for example if your hero is on the snow area with the castle troops you will move slower than if that same hero had only tower troops because they negate the penalty of they native terrain),or that the external "Stables" structure can upgrade you cavaliers to champions for free in addition to improving movement of every hero who visits it until the end of the week.And these are just two examples and when they all pile up it really becomes mind-blowing,little "secrets",strategies,combinations and such attention to every little detail that you can find out years after you played the game. So you can see why it is so much beloved within the Heroes community.Just when you think you know everything about the game you can find something new. About Heroes 4...I love it,it's great I would even say that it does some things better than every other Heroes game BUT Heroes 4 are not really,well,a Heroes game.They are so fundamentally different that it just isn't fair to compare it whit the other titles and the biggest weakness of that game is it's name.If it had different name than Heroes people wouldn't hate it as much,and there is one other thing that everybody loves to forget,3DO was on the verge of bankruptcy so they pretty much almost forced the team to release the game. But despite all that it IS a wonderful game and it has the hand's down one of the best written campaigns in history of strategy games and can even go toe to toe whit some of the better known rpgs.I am referring to the undead campaign,but even without it others are wonderful and great.The great thing about Heroes 4 campaign is that every one is it's own unrelated tale and it benefits the game tremendously especially for people who are not familiar with it's lore and because it can tell wonderfully written stories that are better than most fantasy books.Just a fair warning,IGNORE the expansion pack campaigns,3DO fired all the writers and just forced the team to make a quick and underwhelming expansions just so they could keep afloat for a little more before the company completely bankrupts.
@JoViljarHaugstulen6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I enjoyed Heroes 4 quite a bit though I never really got the hang of that combat grid and line of sight I always found it so difficult to tell how far I could move or if I blocked line of sight of that ranged units And there also was the slight problem of hero durability if the game dragged on as hero durability only scales with levels which happens less and less often while unit damage usually ramps up more and more as the game drags on but potion of immortality helps quite a bit with that (though it does make potion of immortaility seem quite mandatory after all it is quite powerful effect you can use before combat that doesn't wear off before it triggers)
@Shimamon276 жыл бұрын
The half-dead campaign was pretty much the real gem of this game... I've yet to encounter a storyline so moving about the undead... Let alone, how a necromancer actually needs not to go on a conquest rampage, but, has a sense of reason, and can actually just pass a decent half-unlife without seeking some dark scheme. There are many good things about heroes 4... But, the general design and gameplay were just... Off... Though, I had to admit, some of the ideas they had could have made a revolution in the game, if they weren't inside such an artistic disaster of a game. In a design perspective, the game was just offputting... The armies and the way you decide which units you'll build is just wrong... The way units handled, the very design of each hero... Pretty much, the whole art of the game was, well, rather ugly compared to the older ones. As far as gameplay mechanics, it tried to advance on the original formula.... But, it broke it. And the real strong point is the campaign... Heroes 4 had the best campaign out of them all, because it made me ignore the art and the off-parts of the gameplay, and made me highly invested in the narrative. Still, heroes 4 was actually good... Might and Magic nine of the other hand... Well, It's still might and magic, but... The 3D killed it, the plot was nonsense, the feel was wrong... Everything about it broke down to pieces. I always position the two sides of might and magic- RPG and TBS together, they tell allot about the stage of the company, the crew and ells...

I've never played heroes 1. I've only seen it in videos. I haven't played heroes 2 in probably 20 years. I still play heroes 3 to this day. I agree that it'd be hard to find many differences in the earlier games, but the random map generator in 3 makes replay value practically infinite. Aside from that, combination artifacts are great, which I believe became a thing in heroes 3. Beyond that, I feel like they put more thought into balancing the factions, with only a couple exceptions (necro is insanely op). I think that also adds a ton to the replay value.

Great video, same as the previous HOMM reviews. When can we expect a review of HOMM4? It's a totally different game where gameplay has been altered considerably and demands a different mindset than previous installments. Some hate it and I agree that it aged badly but when you don't expect it to be the same as 2 and 3 and just take it as it is, it can be very enjoyable.

I think this review is great. Its exactly how I feel about it. I am so glad he called out the awkward Heroes III 3D rendered units made into strange 2D sprites in comparison to the beautiful pixel art sprites of Heroes II.
@CakePrincessCelestia2 жыл бұрын
Felt the same back in the day. In some regards it does look better of course, but exactly that stood out and they used the same method for MM6-8. But it never actually bothered me. It's just a thing of that time, the transition from nicely done pixel art to 3D with the intermediate step of having 3D stuff rendered and cast into 2D sprites because the computers weren't good enough for the 3D stuff in real time yet without a more visible quality loss.

I totally get the feeling of expectation you're suffering from. My only advice, as someone that also makes videos, just make the videos because you want to. Don't worry too much about people criticising your reviews because you don't have enough time to properly get in to these rich, older games. These are good videos, they're funny and informative. Sseth's similar reviews are far more memey, yet also contain more information. Keep your style going. Not sure if I liked the somewhat awkward live recording section of the video. I've gotta be honest; I would've liked a standard review of Heroes 3, like you did Heroes 1 and 2. I've played all 3 games, yet your style of reviewing those games was satisfying to watch. The best thing sometimes if you feel like your video isn't going to be ''up there'', (even thought that's mostly just your mind playing tricks on you) you should just not make the video at that time. Wait with it and give yourself time to think about it and perhaps talk with someone about it. Anyway, I'm still looking forward for Heroes 4 and 5. I've never really gotten into Heroes 4, played it a bit, but it was so different compared to 3 that it didn't really feel right. That might be different for you however, which is why (as you said in the video) it will be interesting to review. Heroes 5 is my favourite after Heroes 3. People normally don't really like 5 that much, so I think it will be a good title to review. Honestly, 5 might even appeal more to you than 3, but we'll see about that. Anyway, keep it up and don't get yourself down about this video. You can't win them all, right?

thanks for the review, and sorry you felt pressured this way, i appreciate you can do a unbiased review actually. The way i see it, nostalgia is undeniably a huge factor in making things favorite for someone. And since you had no nostalgia, you could make the best review of an old game. I think this game was launched in the right time, with the right tecnology for the time, and good reach worldwide, also had two previous games to practice. For me the third game was the better and was the first one i played as a kid. But in my observation, people who prefer heroes 2 played it first. I don't know of people who says heroes 4 is better, in my opinion it's just not fun after i played so much of 3 and still haven't scratched the surface of it.

Honestly don't get the need of people (especially H3 fans) to dictate what something is "the best" and shame/bully people who disagree. I spent hundreds of hours playing every single game in this series, if not more, and i can identify things i enjoy about every single one, and i also can acknowledge major flaws in each of them. I would've honestly just... made a Might and Magic 4 review and explain at the start "well, I ain't got shit to say about HOMM 3, it's just 2 but better" and only make a real review if people demanded it. This vid was also a very funny video. Standonyourhead... really funny joke, for some reason. XD

At this point, you've reviewed all the HOMM games that I've played. I barely know anything about 4, but my mom doesn't like it. I've seen her play 5, 6, and 7 which all blend together for me. They seem less good than 1, 2, and 3 but I know so little about 5, 6, 7 that I don't actually trust that opinion nor do I care enough to defend it if someone disagrees. What I'm saying is that I can't wait to see you review the games after 3, because I don't know what they're like.

I like your a bit messy format of videos. About review, HoMM3 relies of being powerfull, mainly because of spells(town portal, armageddon,...), if you dont use its just a solid game.

HoMM series was SUPER popular in Poland (especially HoMM 3). All my friends know and still love it. We still play it from time to time. It really has a cult-like following.

Great. Now you can make a seperate review for the HD mod. Not the HD edition, important difference ! And Horn of the Abyss. And maybe WoG... so much to do ;)

Hey HippoCrit! I got a suggestion for you! While this video was kind of entertaining in its own way, I want to respond to the struggle you were presenting. I think for this game you could have created a new video format that isn't a full review. The channel Easy Allies has a video template called "Don't Skip: ____" (e.g. "Don't skip - Hollow Knight") which is what they do when they want to make a produced video on a game because they *like it* and *have things to say* but for whatever reason can't do a full blown review. Another channel I follow, Under the Scope, has done a very analogous thing with his video "Backlog Bop: Yuyushiki | Review". (this was just a couple days ago in fact) In his own words he calls it "a mini-review format", and he did it specifically "because I want to highlight it in some way". I'm just spitballing here, but I think you get the general idea. Once you invent your own template like that and give it a name, I think you'll feel comfortable making a video with your thoughts when it wouldn't work as a full review. Also on an unrelated note but addressing the anxiety part of the video: while it is true there is a strong community of homm3 players who play practically every day, I think you underestimate how many also obsessively played homm3 and *then* *moved* *on .* Speaking as one of those people, I wouldn't have cared 2 figs if you did, in fact, do a very analytical video but didn't talk about X or Y. If a similar game like that comes up again, just remember you don't have to sweat it.
