All true. There could have been much more done with the game. The game was unpolished and unfinished at launch, so Bandai Namco decided to add some shine on top of that. It just feels like they wasted the opportunity to improve this game into the masterpiece everyone says it is instead of the first half of a masterpiece that it's always been.

What they did to Firelink Shrine pains me most. All the other changes don't really change anything but the Firelink Shrine just feels miserable now. It's supposed to be the only place for you to feel safe and welcome. A place with rainbows and an ice cream van on free-vend day. A place of warmth and friendliness, even though everyone is mad and/or leaving. A place to contrast the scary world outside it's boundaries. The world where everything wants you dead (including the environment). It is a still beating heart of a dying world. Well it's supposed to be anyway..

Good video, I bought it despite having the game already. I personally don't mind supporting FromSoft but I mainly bought it for the online play. I also like that the PVP is more active, although 1 big bummer was when I discovered that they aren't using dedicated server with the PVP, I discovered this because some laggy invader backstabbed me from a good distance.

I feel like they improved the enemies hitting. At first I felt like the game was fucked because I was use to original DS enemies clipping and missing their attacks. Now their attacks are more accurate so it's made the game a bit easier knowing that now I can trust what's happening.

I think a lot of this is because they didn't get From Software involved (or rather, as earlier interviews pointed towards they didn't want to be involved). That may have limited how much they could change without creating more issues. All-in-all it's fine especially if you're a current generation console gamer, this is the best way to play the game for you, but some things are pretty unforgivable like the lighting on the 2D trees.

I agree with pretty much everything in the video, but I have to say Dark Souls Remastered is a much better user experience than dsfix, even if you have no problems and get it working as intended. While the remaster runs fantastically on even low end PCs, dsfix rarely even hits a consistent 60 fps on multi-thousand dollar builds. And if you use dsfix to mod in textures, get ready for multiple areas of the game to stutter into the low 20s. Plus, the remaster now allows non-PC players to experience the game at higher resolutions and framerates, which they were never able to do until now.

Is it worth buying? Yes... if you are new to the game or are a multiplayer focused veteran who does not like to play with mods. Which admitedly is a fairly large portion of the playerbase. Was it a good remaster? Fuck no. Dark Souls 1 looked aesthetically great because it used that weird self lighting, pre homogenized lighting engine... thing. That saturated almost jarring look worked for great effect and made several areas look gorgeous and with personality. Come the remaster and just looking at Firelink was painful. The new effects are nice and all, made magic feel almost cool looking, but, come on.

Who cares if it's 20 bucks, I bought it specifically for the fact that it would revitalize the community. As for why they removed the other from the store like you said installing mods for some people is frustrating and a game that requires mods just to work properly shouldn't be on the store. You could argue, why didn't they just patch it then like the console versions? Well the console versions were coded entirely differently and the original PC port of Dark Souls was a throbbingly broken mess. In short, it's 20 dollars and there's no reason to feel extorted over 20 dollars especially when they weren't holding a gun to your head to repurchase it.

dark souls gets ported. never patched or fixed at all, one of the shittiest ports ever. mods fix it. now they attempt to rewrite history while also ensuring people of the future who buy it cant use mods already made. sweet.
