I'm with you, I've said it a few times in my reviews, late 90s/early 2000s had the best art. Amazing cartoony but still defined and sharp pencils and not OTT with the digital effects. My Spidey JMS omni does the same thing with the binding, I wonder if they both came of the line as the glue needed refilling, or if they've changed the ingredients and the glue is just weaker now.

Hey Omar! Have you read Mark Waid's run on Archie? Yes,I said Archie! They rebooted the universe with new design and modern stories. Waid wrote the stories and from what I've read they were really good, funny and smart. So I felt like telling you because I haven't seen anyone on youtube referring to that series. Fiona Staples (Saga) was also the artist for the first three issues and she set the tone for the later artists. The first OHC ("Varsity Edition") came out recently.

I can't wait for the reprint this year. I kept waiting for a price drop and it got discontinued before I was able to buy it. Jim Lee has serious issues finishing a 12 issue run. He always bails out. Good gawd!!! Love all these artist. Rob Liefeld is a bit questionable though.

Omar, Heroes Reborn will get to me Monday, but I wanted to ask you about the new Cable and X-Force omni. This something that would read well on it's own, or would I need a little or a lot of prep reading to understand or appreciate? Also, on your Moon Shadow Amazon misadventure, I use Worderyus or Grandeagleretail on ebay. Their packaging doesn't match IST, but is way more secure than Amazon, and neither has failed to get me a book in anything less than new condition.

This Avengers series was one of the two first series I ever collected (Along with Excalibur). It was hit or miss, but there were moments I loved, like that first Hulk vs Thor fight and that 4-part Galactus story that ended this series (the four #12's). Its a shame the Wildstorm-Amalgam books weren't included (with some Mike Weringo art!) but that was to be expected...

oooh the cursed bind peeling, two of my BPRD Plague of Frogs omnis have that lol. As for the book, Heroes Reborn is an omnibus I'll be passing on but it's always nice to see companies release oversized collections for stuff that maybe not everyone would enjoy or that doesn't have a huge universal critical acclaim AND which also doesn't capitalize on "whatever the recent MCU movie is" craze.

Back in the days I didn't read the reborn series I was putting a pause in comics. Later I came back. With the return with Thor and Captain America.

I ordered it. They shipped it today so I should be getting it next week. Bought it for the art. Unlike you, I got into comics thanks to Image and followed there stuff growing up, didn't care much for Marvel and DC (besides Batman and Wolverine). I'm getting into the big 2 now, buying these omnibus of the best reviewed stories or the ones by creators I admire.

Like others I loved Jim Lee/FF and Whilce Portacio/Iron Man. If I remember right Lee and Portacio were only contracted to do the first half of their respective runs and at some point Liefeld never finished his tenure on his books and Wildstorm Studio had to take over. I'd love to have the Omni for the sake of nostalgia but it would be a waste to spend all that money to read half an omni. I think this is a case where I'd prefer the Iron Man and FF collections in trade format.

@@NearMintCondition When you quit comics was shortly after I was done reading X-Men books. Looking back I finally remembered why I stopped reading X-Men books cold turkey. Age of Apocalypse had just finished and not even a few months later they decided to roll out Onslaught. I was like I am so over all these major events that required you to pick up virtually all the X-Men books plus the new books. Onslaught was my last straw. 25 years later I just finished half of Remenders epic Uncanny X-Force run!

I'll skip on this even though I love Jim Lee and Whilce also. What I would love is some of the Image 90's stuff in omnibus form. I'm thinking Witchblade, Darkness, CyberForce, Wetworks and some of the Wildstorm stuff. I know they sold a few big collections of some a few years ago, but they seem to be mostly OOP. The art in these alone is just gorgeous and even the stories are OK sometimes. :) It doesn't seem likely though.

To be honest not really. This one for me is about the art. I don't think very many people could say that the writing was exceptional. But we did get Jeph Loeb's first work on Marvel books.

You did a great job with this review. Unfortunately that means I'm no longer curious, meaning I will be skipping this one, maybe until I find it on sale. I was mainly interested in Thor, and curious sbout the FF. Does this story would, in any way, improve or even add anything to the Heroes Return books? If I understand correctly, the answer is no. Regarding why this was even a thing, I actually feel it was an awful move on Marvel, having so much talent in house who would had been happy to try a new take on those characters, just to pretty much giving them the middle finger by outsourcing those characters to the people who themselves had given Marvel the middle finger while leaving to create Image Comics. It's a business, I know, but still.

I think at the time, they were going through some financial issues and Image was booming with books left and right. So they thought this was a good move. For me... it was the straw that broke the camels back. It's also why some creators left. I guess they learned their lesson as this never happened again.

I've always loved Jim Lee's FF. It was like an Ultimate comic before the Ultimate line existed. He took everything you loved about it but updated it and made things bigger. It's a shame they didn't have more time on it. The story is rushed so they can include all the iconic FF accoutrements.

They were talking about him taking over Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Defenders and Nick Fury, but within the actual universe. So basically, a Marvel Knights line was discussed before Marvel Knights.

UGH...IMHO this 90's stuff (with few exceptions) is probably the worst of American mainstream comics. I always compare it to the ugly and slow late 70's US cars and Disco nearly killing Rock. The late 90's it starting getting good again.
