The show is actually following a traditional serialized tv formula. Each episode has an arc with a beginning middle and end. Instead of feeling like just pieces to 4-8 hour movie. That's why I think it works so so well so far.

100% this. It doesn’t feel like a movie chopped up. Every episode has a start middle and end.

I love how they really emphasize penguin 🐧 strengths. He can’t rely on super strength or speed or even flight. His super power is his ability to plot and scheme. His ability to turn people against each other is his main strength. He’s literally the Littlefinger of the Batman universe 😂

I feel like there is a parallel being drawn between Oz's limp and the way he's brilliantly fumbling his way through his schemes. He's got a strong foot and a weak foot, and the narrative always shows him taking one confident step forward with his plotting and then stumbling when something goes bad. Then, he takes another strong step when another piece of his plan bails him out. Let me know if I'm reading too far into it, or if anyone agrees!
@soapboxgames54552 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say your reading to much into it, it fits the theme of survival b/c ultimately that’s what Oz is and has been throughout his entire life. Like he said to Victor, if you operate amongst the lions & wolves you need to be quick and witty.

I really like that this show established that Oz's big goal is to eventually make it to the top in this criminal enterprise and they highlighted exactly the sort of mobster-figure he'd like to be when they told that story of the man from his old neighborhood. So you get the idea that he wants to be a part of this criminal lifestyle and he wants to succeed but he also wants to be the type to use that power to do right by people. He wants others to look at him fondly and remember him well because of the small ways he can offer good to them just like that other man did back in the day. He wants that balance of respect and love even when it comes with a side of fear. And you see all of this embodied in the way he interacts with Vic or the different sex workers. He doesn't just pay for the women's time so he can use them and get rid of them which is what you'd expect if he's paying for services only. But we see he buys food and drinks for them, plays music so they'll have a good time, he pays more than what they ask for, gives them compliments and seems to build a level of rapport with them where they're seemingly comfortable around him. Vic gets a similar treatment where he's mentoring, joking with him, creating a relationship beyong boss/goon, sharing parts of his lifestory with him, letting him know about his mom, etc. Not what you'd expect from a typical villain type yet this sort of character makes sense if he might eventually become the mayor or something in this universe (corrupt but doing good).

Hector: She killed 7 women Me: Did she? In the rewatch I was reminded in The Batman of Carmine Falcone admitting to strangling Selina Kyle's mom. Carmine attempting to strangle Selina. The recording of Nadia being strangled. Did Sofia Falcone kill 7 women or did she go down for it?🤔

As much as these guys constantly predict death for Eve and Victor, I can't help but go in the opposite direction in thinking we're witnessing multiple villain origin stories. Victor Aguilar's story is bearing a number of similarities to the much more humble beginnings of Victor Zsasz. Also, it can't be a coincidence that Eve's last name is Karlo. Doubt it'll go full metahuman but I can see a much more grounded master of disguise/social chameleon interpretation of Clayface.

It's a little thing, but the scene between Vic and the cam girl is really sweet. And she is _good_ - not only does she give him the space to speak despite his stutter, but the second she realises that asking him if he'd lost anyone made him withdraw, she changed the subject and kept him engaged. It was nice to see Vic smiling and enjoying the attention of the fairer sex 🙂

What only occurred to me in this episode about Oswald is why he drives around in such an obviously eye catching colour of car. So he can plainly be seen in Gotham in it, but when he visits his mother ( who we now know people think has died ), he drives a mundane everyday car. Perfect camouflage. Oz is pretty smart 😊

👩🏾💻👩🏾💻 When ya'll were talking about this being the only show that made our dear Penguin somewhat of sympathetic character it got me thinking, didn't they do that (all be it fleeting moments) in Tim Burton's "Batman" #2? Of course I was very young the last time I saw it, but I remember the movie's introduction to the character (that was a little heartbreaking). I know he used a lot of his past to manipulate but there were some times when Danny Devito showed real emotion. Then the f***** tried to kill all the kids!😶😶 Sorry, got caught up there for a moment, I do love this show as well and I hope Colin wins some awards for his performance cause "yous" are right sometimes I forget it's him under there. 🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️💜💜

Vic would have to have a total personality replacement to become Zsasz. Vic can barely deal with violence while Zsasz revels in it.
@ScottEDawg2 ай бұрын
@@ForeverBrooklynNYC That's why you would really have to think about it! 😂 Seriously though, if Cobb throws him far enough into the deep end, he successfully completes the task and that builds his confidence, the personality adjustment could very easily take place and 'presto', Zsasz is born! Then again, his transformation into Zsasz may take place between the end of this mini-series of The Penguin and the release of The Batman 2, so we may never actually see it but we will made to know the catalyst for the change.
