Well that’s also not even factoring in how Tolkien left it open for Gandalf to have been there in the 2nd age. He arrives in the 3rd age but that doesn’t mean it’s the first time he’s been sent to middle earth. He literally gets sent back a second time in LOTR.
@nancyhayes99584 күн бұрын
I wish I could remember the source (maybe Morgoth's Ring or the Letters): at one time Tolkien toyed with the idea of having the Istari sent over with more power, which was a total disaster. That's why when they were sent over a second time they were nerfed.
@TomOnTheTube4 күн бұрын
Not going all "sacred texts", but Tolkien actually did say that Gandalf as Olorin (which I assume he is, which is why he says "that's what they'll call me") went to Middle Earth prior to TA. He met Galadriel prior to her having her ring. He made two mentions of "Gandalf" likely having gone over to ME already, so I'm fine with it myself. No, the series isn't perfect (some non sequiturs around and scale problems), but it's been amazing.

Afternoon lads! I'm glad you enjoyed the season! As far as the lore goes (and i don't usually like tagging other channels on videos but i think it will help here), Matt (Nerd of the Rings on YT) is the best at explaining all aspects of the lore in a very easy to follow visual format. Not sure if Hector and Adam will want to check it out yet until the series ends but Agustin might find it useful to refresh on memory! The character Agustin mentioned "became a star" is Earendil. Not a spoiler to mention him because he's already been mentioned in the show. He is Elrond's father. He also the father of Elros, who was the first King of Numenor. Also, as far as Adar is concerned it's widely believed and implied by JD that he is one of the first elves that were corrupted by Morgoth. Just some fun facts :) Like Agustin mentions, I'm sure you will enjoy the next "arc" regarding Numenor and Vicker's amazing Sauron! Finally, while i personally would've preferred if Stranger was one of the other Istari, i believe they're going the route of a particular text about "Olorin" in the 2nd age. Anyways, again, I'm glad you guys had a lot of fun! Now to wait for S3!

Augustin: I wrote my master’s thesis on Tolkien, and I still have problems keeping the family trees straight in the Silmarillion. One of the things I think ROP is doing so much better is making off-canon choices make sense in-story. Jackson was brilliant at making his LOTR adaptation feel like Tolkien. ROP is getting there. My objections to Season 1 were pacing, one-dimensional characters, and forging the elven rings in the last ten minutes of the finale (because I was worried they’d forged the other rings off-screen). Season 2 fixed all those issues, and I loved seeing the Annatar-Celebrimbal tragedy play out. First- and Second-Age Sauron is one of my favorite villains. If you want a first age example, read or listen to the first few pages of Chapter 19 in the Silmarillion (Beren and Luthien).
@samuraiko4 күн бұрын
If you don't mind me asking, what aspect/facets of Tolkien and/or his work was your thesis about?
@nancyhayes99584 күн бұрын
@@samuraiko My thesis was on how Tolkien repeated certain words with each repetition having the history of the previous usage to add layers to the meaning. I used the stories of the mixed-race marriages in the Silmarillion and LOTR as my source material, and "shadow," "light," and "Silmaril" as the words A close example in the movies would be when Frodo climbs down Sam's throat after Sam tells Frodo he has to fight the Ring. Frodo's response is "The Ring is my burden, my own." By this time, the audience knows that "mine. My own. My precious." is a sign the Ring is taking over someone. When Frodo yells at Sam, we automatically tack "my precious" onto his sentence and realize he's falling further under the Ring's power. Clear as mud?

I thought they did a good job of showing small scenes here and there to display the mounting tensions and ultimate divide between the faithful and kingsmen. Honestly nothing really significant happens with Numenor until they get involved with Sauron. So I think the how has done a good job of sprinkling them in here and there so the audience has a good idea of the climate of Numenor and how they got there when they become central to the story.

Great to see this video guys, I've been waiting for it since the last episode aired and love your reaction vids. The quoting of the "sacred texts" always makes me laugh. The last shot of Imladris is spectacular. Bring on season 3 💚

Thanks for such a great energy and community guys, you rock soooo much! As another fellow sacred text fanatic (lol), I like making fun of ourselves, and yeah I absolutely adore this show. It somewhow manages to mix detailed faithfullness to the lore (truly), with some other crazy new exciting shit they create which somehow works! Maybe some additions are risky, but man some others are so great and interesting, kudos to these writers. So much better to have a brave story than another easy one. See you guys in season 3, you are awesome!!

1. I see why people like Tom bombadil so much. 2. Man I really didnt love the first season but it feels like the creators really took all the feedback and improved every aspect of the show! So much Kudos to that kind of turn around. This season really felt so special.

Hey, Heroes! Kinda-long time watcher, possibly-first-time-commenter... I just wanna say you guys are awesome and I always enjoy your reactions... I especially loved your reactions to this season of "HMMMWELLAKSHALLY According to the Sacred Texts". I speak from the perspective of someone who loves the LOTR universe, although I've never read the Appendices and Silmarillion, and I think you're all spot-on about not taking everything so seriously, and just enjoy the show. Something I've noticed quite often about people who complain about a show, or game, or whatever, they use it as a sneaky; subtextual way to be racist or ... let's just be honest, incredibly stupid. But it's genuinely not even worth the debate, so I just "okay. *shrug*" I don't know, that's just my ten cents. TL;DR I really enjoy your reactions especially this season of this show. Stay awesome, dudes!

They can’t jump forward much in next seasons, because Isildur and Elendil must be alive during the Last Alliance - and they are Numenorians, who can live about 200 (or even more) years, but they are humans still. They are definitely compressing timeline, but it is for the good of the narrative.

So many actors who had very little to do in season one, took centre stage this season and killed it. They gave us their meat and they gave it to us raw.
