Watch the incredible accuracy of this Grey Heron while he forages on mice amongst the reeds.
This interesting sighting was captured by Johan Rothmann, 65-year-old, a retiree with a passion for traveling and wildlife, while visiting his family’s farm in Wolwedans, Stellenbosch.
Johan tells Latestsightings.com the story: “We were sitting outside when my son in law pointed out the grey heron walking around. The heron was on the hunt and didn’t take its attention off the reeds.”
“It stared into the reeds while standing completely still, it then wiggled its body and went in for the kill. To my amazement, it caught a mouse! It made quick work of the mouse and swallowed it whole and then went in search of another one.”
“After it swallowing its second mouse for the day the heron flew off. It was quite a rare sighting for me as I had no idea herons ate mice.”
“Patience is the key to capturing a sighting like this on film.”
