Your videos are great. I would love to be able to tag along on one of your adventures. I agree about the frog calling that was great footage. You guys know your stuff. Do you bring a guide book along for reference or do you just know them all? Great and informative.

Beautiful Scarlet snakes. Great info. I can not believe that water snake did not chomp you.
@SharingTheOutdoors11 жыл бұрын
Yes, we were talking about that after we let them go. Even if you live in a place like Florida, where finding reptile eggs regularly is a possibility, it would be hard to find them enough to eat and keep them alive. These snakes are best left in the wild.
@SharingTheOutdoors11 жыл бұрын
Yes, we were poking about in the swamps down there again. The idea was a tarpon fishing trip. We hooked a few, but the weather turned on us before we could land one. So we waited the rain out and went herping instead.

I'm glad you showed the water snake because I have seen those at Tropical Park near the lake right where kids play and thought they were water moccasins.

sakecity7 They do look very similar. Many snakes also have several different color variations that can make them hard to tell apart. Water snakes can be very aggressive at times, the one we found on this occasion was an exception, they usually try to bite. Keep in mind the folks filming these videos have degrees in biology and wildlife management, and are very familiar with different species of snakes. The best advice I can give you or anyone would be not to handle any snake. All snakes, even non-venomous snakes will usually bite to defend themselves.

When Stephanie was holding that water snake i couldn't help but to be looking over her shoulder at that water source going "Looks like a good Fishing spot to me" especially seeing the water boil a few times while she was informing us on the water snake. #camochairproductions FTW Great job Mike, Chris and Stephanie.

We we're shocked as well. Thing was as calm as can be. I've seen much blood drawn by folks handling banded water snakes.

cool shot of the frog calling at night.

Except for the fact that the locals know a rather large alligator frequents that exact spot and call it Alligator Hole". We had to be very careful there, one of the reasons we chose to do that spot before it got dark.

Sharing The Outdoors That's amazing that you found that scorpion at 3:01. I live in South Florida and never seen a scorpion here. All I see are those small black ants with the oversized heads, palmetto bugs, anoles, Iguanas, geckos, frogs, etc.

good stuff man! two scarlet snakes, what an awesome find, they're a cool little snake. just saw a couple at a reptile show, cool to see but it's a shame that dealers still sell them knowing that their odds of survival in captivity is very slim. unfortunately i guess some people just don't care.

This was one of my favourite episodes of SHARING THE OUTDOORS so far. For me, evening and sundown are my favourite times to herp. Alot of creatures come out of their daytime hiding places and the frogs really start calling. I love all forms of herps, but I have a real passion for frogs (mainly because they make sounds and I am a sound-recordist). You filmed this episode in late June - very interesting. Yo have a longer warm period in Florida than we do (half of our year in Ontario it is cold). For frogs in Ontario the best time to hear them is April to July (but the optimum time is mid-May to mid-June). I often go out at night and search for (and sound-record) frogs at dusk and night. I love your footage of a calling oak toad and while you were on the road you can hear southern cricket frog, barking treefrog, oak toad and pine woods treefrog all calling together. I'd love to take my parabolic mic down to Florida and record frog calls. Also, I liked your scarlet snakes that you caught. I'll try and remember what Stephanie said about the dangerous coral snake - "IF RED TOUCHES YELLOW IT'S KILL FELLOW". Good tip. Also, that was a gorgeous florida watersnake that Stephanie was holding. This was an amazing video, and you guys are a great inspiration to other herpers all over. Keep up the great work.

Michael and Chris have degrees in Wildlife Management, and biology and biodiversity was part of their studies. They just know the stuff. Half the time they are using the latin names, I figured we should just use common names in the videos though, most folks, including myself, don't use the latin.

+Jade Kheav I was with my son, he lives in St. Pete and took us to this area. It was out of town about an hours drive. Not sure what the name of the area was, lots of swamps and public hunting areas in that region.
@SharingTheOutdoors9 жыл бұрын
+Jade Kheav Michael and Chris are very secretive with their prime locations, I doubt it would do much good. I do know from turkey hunting with Chris that the Green Swamp WMA has an excellent population of critters. We encountered many species there, from green anoles and water snakes like the one in this video to alligators and cottonmouth by the dozen. That area is fairly close to the St. Pete-Tampa vicinity as well.

Sharing The Outdoors Just missing calling frogs looked hilarious, nice scarlets, never see live in central west, only ring necked, black snakes, a super bright red rat snake, amazing, thought maybe escaped pet so perfect. Like to find invasive species, chameleons, told where are forgotten. Others reported, don’t see, just common. Cuban trees, a leopard gecko, no poison darts monitors or new additions? Wish had more!
@SharingTheOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I think Chris actually came across a chameleon not long ago. We'll be back down there next spring to look for more stuff. Maybe have a bit better luck, as last spring it was really dry.
